New kitten 😸 is she a Calico???

So just got this lovely little terror a week ago, meet Callie she is 10 weeks old 😸 The woman I got her from said kitty was a Calico, which I've never heard of before. Looked up online but not sure if she is or not, just curious anyone any ideas? Sorry not the best pictures.

Take her to the vets, they will confirm if she is a pedigree.

Calico refers to the colouring, usually ginger, black and white. Calico isn't a breed. She's cute though.

She doesn't look calico to me, unless there's any hidden ginger patches?

Thank you, I'll ask the vets next week when she goes in for her jabs and chipped. I knew calico wasn't a breed an was the colouring an she doesn't have any ginger. The woman I got her from had no idea which tom had got her kitty prego 🙈 x

I thought calico cats were white, ginger and black patches/blotches. She doesn't look like she has any ginger so I would say no she is not a calico coloured cat.

She is beautiful though.

Calico is tortoiseshell and white, not just tortoiseshell Bertie.

I think of it as an American way of saying it too, but we don't have a word for it other than tortoiseshell-and-white (the colour of the cat I had as a child) so I'm happy to adopt the word.

at one time all cats with ginger white and black, and classic dark tortie were called tortoiseshells, but americans call the patched red black and white calico and that has crept in to colouring here too, so now the dark torites are called tortoiseshell, the red black and white are called calico, and the torties who are pale with blueish hints are called dilute torties

We have a tortie, she's ginger, black and white. Her mum is jet black and apparently she's missing most of the genes that would make her jet black too. It only happens to females. Calico is a US term for a three coloured moggie.

I thought I could see a little patch of ginger on her but it's hard to tell from the photos you posted.

The light in your pictures make it difficult to tell but I think she's possibly a calico tabby. Her back looks quite splotchy rather than true tabby. Google calico tabby and see if she looks like any of the pictures.

In fa t the more I look at that second picture the more sure I am that she's a calico tabby.

Oh fair enough Trills, I didn't know! :) We had two tortoiseshell-and-white cats when I was growing up, sisters, I think they are the most beautiful cats! One was the classic black, white and ginger and the other was lighter with sort of blonde-coloured ginger patches and grey instead of black, she had a lot of tabby in her too.
