New Maine Coon arriving - what do we need?

Georgia, the beautiful grey MC I posted about a couple of weeks back, is coming home from the rescue next weekend. Very excited! We have cat bed, cat carry, but need recommendations for scratch posts etc. Anything not obvious which we could get which would make settling her in easier?

Is that from St Francis Persian rescue. If so I collected her from her owner. She's lovely! I saw her again yesterday.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/07/2017 10:19

If it is her she had an enormous tree. Her owne wanted it to go with her but the rescue couldn't store it. My friend now has it. It took up my entire spare room.

Feliway? Catnip plant? Litter tray is important (extra large).

{waits for pictures}

What's her story Toddler?

Toddlerteaplease · 09/07/2017 10:25

Her story is that she is one of three cats who's owner was returning to South Africa (very reluctantly) their owner was a lovely lady who lived for them. And they have been so loved. She wanted Georgia to go separately from the other two as the other one would not allow her to play a d she was desperate to. She's incredibly intelligent. And very dignified. Tragically her owner committed suicide either the day I collected them or the day after. It was incredibly sad. She was heart broken to loose them.

Photos please. I got a wonderful 2.5 year old Maine Coon last summer from a rescue. She is a delight. She's a dark grey smoke and white and is the softest, gentlest cat that I've ever known. I've found she is completely uninterested in a most climbing things. She doesn't really jump up on stuff unless there is a purpose to it, so she can jump onto the kitchen counters but only ever does it on the side of the kitchen where the windows are and never on the food prep side. She jumps up to look out of or climb through the windows. Other cats I've had just like being up high. She wouldn't be remotely interested in a cat tree unless it was next to a window for example. Mine likes to scratch the carpets unfortunately but we luckily have very hard wearing carpets. I've tried horizontal scratchers but they just don't have the same appeal. Hmm
She settled unbelievably quickly too. She was in my lap, stretched out on her back having her belly scratched within an hour. For the first few weeks she didn't leave me alone at all. She's now a bit more independent but does love a cuddle. Good luck!

X-posts with toddler. How incredibly sad. Sad

Toddlerteaplease · 09/07/2017 10:34

She was a really lovely lady. I'd hoped to keep in touch with her. We got on like a house on fire. Unfortunately I had a feeling it would happen. I've never met 3 more loved cats though.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/07/2017 10:39

Op. Ive got photos of her and the things she had if you want me to PM them to you. Don't want to steal your thunder and post pictures before you get her!

YesItsMeIDontCare · 09/07/2017 10:44

Oh Toddler that's so sad!

She's going to need lots of love ocelot - if you get tired and need a break from cuddles give me a shout Wink.

On a practical note, the two best cat items I own are the kong groom zoom fetch.co.uk/kong-zoom-groom-for-cats-88104011?gclid=CMfu8Jr3-9QCFYcp0wod2BEPfA and the cat dancer www.amazon.co.uk/Cat-Dancer-93419100010-Toy/dp/B0006N9I68?tag=mumsnetforum-21.

My sister was trying to convince me to keep her and call her Mushroom!

ocelot41 · 09/07/2017 19:35

Hello Toddler! It is indeed the same Georgia! Bless you for picking her up. We are stupidly excited to be coming to get her, but so sad about her back story. If her tree will fit in a normal family estate, yes pls! Hopefully it will help her feel at home. And yes yes yes to photos please!

The tree went to a friend of mine. As St Francis had no space for it. And neither did I. We didn't think their new owners would want it. It was enormous. She had large barrel thing from Zooplus which I was going to pick up but obviously that didn't happen. I've got her custom made Superman mynwood walking jackets if you want it. I'll send it too you. Please PM me. I do t know how to do it. Here are the photos.

I e also got a large toy mouse that she had if you want that too.

IAmcuriousyellow · 09/07/2017 20:04

What you will need is plenty of Dinner! My word these cats can eat. the Prince of Orange can stow two tins a day no problem, topped up with vermin.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/07/2017 20:05

Op, please adopt Boo as well. He's constantly over looked in favour of pedigrees!

ocelot41 · 09/07/2017 20:10

Thanks Toddler! Sorry I misunderstood you about the tree. I thought you meant that it was huge and you and your sister wanted rid of it as it was taking up too more space. Will PM you!

DumbledoresApprentice · 09/07/2017 21:49

Mine likes an occasional potter in the garden on her leash. It's definitely not like walking a dog though, she just sniffs about, eats a bit of grass and then runs back inside. I just follow.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/07/2017 22:19

I think they had an enclosed garden that they went out in.

ocelot41 · 09/07/2017 22:24

Oh that's much easier! There is an enclosed garden at our new place - we just need to catproof it
