Ive had lots of cats in the past pre-kids but currently in a cat free house. We are planning on getting an adult rescue of this year - a laid back lap cat who can tolerate small kids. I'm not worried about breed for the kids, moggy is totally fine.

But it's got me thinking about how I really miss my Ragdoll cat. So, at some point, when I'm no longer clearing up after small kids, what would you recommend as a breed if I want the bonkers personality of a ragdoll but without the white fluffy double coat.

I was going to say ragdoll Grin. I've got three moggies but had a male raggie who died of HCM earlier this year (had a thread at the time). So my husband bought me a registered pedigree kitten girl and then yesterday I adopted a pedigree adult male ragdoll. He is a proper gentle giant so soppy. Loves to walk on his lead. He's a little scared at the moment but I'm giving him the space to settle in.

It's a ragdoll you want Wink

@Wolfiefan my tortie moggy is so laid back! Even as a kitten she didn't run crazy or anything Smile

Wolfiefan · 21/06/2017 12:07

Mine are both complete loopers! Oh well. Luck of the draw!

Toddlerteaplease · 21/06/2017 12:07

Get a Persian. Docile affectionate and as thick as mice. But no trouble at all and very well behaved.

*mince. They wouldn't know what a mouse is!

porkless she looks fab! I used to walk mine on a lead too 😀 Deep down I think I would love another Ragdoll but my DP was really not a fan of having to defuzz/lint remove all the time. I've won him round to a house cat for us all but I think another long haired cat might be too much.

My Persians shed less than short haired cats and it doesn't stick to your clothes.

caffeinestream · 21/06/2017 13:07

We have a Maine Coon/BSH cross. He has the look and size of a Maine Coon but without all the shedding!

Glastokitty · 21/06/2017 13:13

My tortie is not bonkers either, she's gentle and very sensible.

RubbishMantra · 21/06/2017 17:46

I have a black and white moggy - streetwise and very loving, more eccentric than bonkers. He howls into corners of the house...

My Bonkers Cat is a Devon Rex. Full of energy, super friendly and loves being the centre of attention. Good with other pets too, MCat (the back and white) was having none of this making friends malarkey, but Little M, (the Devon) just ignored all growls and hisses at his attempted overtures and not once retaliated, just went on his merry way, and kept annoying MCat trying to be friends. Now they're best pals.

What about a Siberian? Very long haired and fluffy but doesn't shed much. Certainly much less than many short haired mogs I have known.

Full of personality, very intelligent but also splendidly laid back and fond of their humans.

Just written on another post - tonkinese are fabulous. After loads of research I realised it was the best bet and ours hasn't disappointed. He is the most affectionate cat I've ever met. Loves laps/beds/kids/other pets. See below.

I didnt know that about persians - I saw the coat and assumed they would shed as much as a ragdoll.

I've also never heard of a siberian Bogburglar75 so I'm going to add that to my instagram wishlist of cats I follow Smile

Thanks for all the photos and suggestions everyone!
