Does this need a vet? (Picture)

I'm not sure how or where she did it.

It's causing her to limp and she's licking it a lot.

She's got her normal appetite and isn't out of sorts.

DH thinks we should call an ambulance and I said to leave it a couple of days and monitor.

I'd take her in. It's deep. Might need stitches and antibiotics

If it was my cat I'd take to Vet to get checked.

Always compare to what I'd do for myself, I'd go to doc or nurse for a wound like that on myself.

I'd take her to the vet. It could have all kinds of germs in it and need properly cleaning out. It may even need a stitch. When WattoCat had something that looked similar to that, it was a burst abscess probably caused by a cat bite.

One of my DM's cats had a wound similar to that. It needed a couple of stitches and a bandage on it for 10 days (although she kept getting this off and leaving it in the garden). She also had to have a 5 day course of antibiotic drops.

She's a cat with no idea about wound care.

It will get infected and/or over washed and irritated unless it's medicated and protected, and could get worse very quickly. You really don't want to give it chance for infection to take hold.

Take her to the vets.

Oh crikey. I thought DH was overreacting.

It's superficial and isn't bleeding if that alters anything. Apart from the limping she's not in any discomfort.

Would it be cruel to wait until tomorrow for the vet? We'll keep her in and clean the wound.

Ok, so I'll get googling out of hours vets.

For a cat to limp, usually means they have pain. And that's beside the fact that cats are past masters at covering up pain and discomfort where possible.

The photo makes in look deep. It really is superficial... I used to work on a would care clinic (for humans) and that's how I'd describe it.

Cozie is right- animals don't tend to howl with pain as it makes them look vulnerable.

Echo person above - if that was a cut on me I'd want it washed and closed.

I'd confine her to one room and just get her in tomorrow morning - it does need vet attention but I think within 24 hours is fine as long as she's not getting it mucky etc.

She will get it mucky though- litter box,licking it etc.

If you ring your normal vet it should have info on a recorded mesaage ime.

We've just moved to the area so haven't got a regular vet. DH is googling now.

Surely most vets are still open at this time of the evening

Do you have a Companion Care in your area? Very good one and stay open until 8ish usually.
