Cuddly cats

Do you have a cuddly cat? Is it a specific breed?

DH and I have today had the amazing news that the bank will lend us enough to be able to afford our very own home. After being banned from all fluffy pets in our rental house obviously my mind has completely jumped the gun and started planning for a kitty member of the family (or maybe 2!)

Obviously we will be being sensible about this and doing research about specific breeds vs rescue moggies. We've waited this long so will be settled into our new house (eek!) before bringing any kitties home.

Cat needs to be happy with kids and ideally with lots of cuddles. I LOVE the look of Maine coons but need to research properly. Any other suggestions? Is there a specific look that a rescue cat would give me to indicate it's the cuddly sort?

All cats are different. If you want a lap cat I would go with a rescue that fosters adult cats if possible. Fosterer can tell you if cat is a cuddlemonster!

I'm spoilt for cuddles by having a succession of Siamese.

Be warned though. A 'cuddler' can be pretty demanding.

I would love a cuddle cat!

As it stands I have one that tolerates it when she wants it.. and that includes laying on you but you must not touch

She's a bit of a brat. She's a main coon cross but she's dinky

Ha. If you go for a Siamese then you will be staff. Think subservient slave! I would love one but they aren't like your ordinary mog. Can be very vocal!

Are you sure you want a cuddler? I have things to do right now, things that won't do themselves and... welll... I can't move him. That would be rude.

I find all the moggies we have ever had have been the cuddliest, particularly rescues, it is as if they know just how lucky they are. We currently have rag dolls who, despite their soppy nature, are not lap cats. They are incredibly affectionate, but just won't sit on knees for a cuddle.

My bengals cuddly, their not meant to be though. All the Persians were not cuddly.

Mine are very affectionate but wont really sit on your lap, just as close to you as possible ( until it gets to 2.30am and then they are all over you)

A bonded Siamese - in my experience - regards separation from their person as some sort of 'punishment'. You can forgive them much for the glory of a Sunday afternoon snooze with them lying long beside you - but definitely be warned.

Ooh I hadn't even realised that adult cats go out to foster homes (stupid really as i had a couple of mums and kittens as fosters many years ago)

Definitely sure I want cuddly (jealous of the lap cat Yes!). Had 2 many moons ago when we lived overseas, one was super cuddly on her terms - especially when I was pregnant) and specialised in drooling on me. The second was so cuddly she used to get under the duvet with me. She was run over at just a few years old. I miss them both and cat talk is making me super cat broody

Bonded Siamese - in my experience - sleep in bed with their person all through the night. (They might go on the bed in a very very high summer but that would be unusual.)

Obviously there are always exceptions but persians are generally extremely docile and loving. There is a great persian rescue place called Strawberry persian rescue. They get other rescued pedigrees too although I couldn't vouch for their cuddle Ness

British shorthairs are very affectionate, not demanding and also happy with their own space.

I'd definitely second the suggestion to go with an adult rescue cat. Their personalities are set then. My boy is a rescue. He was a year old and has the perfect mix of independence and cuddliness. If you get a kitten you never know what they will turn out like.

I have a very attached half-Bengal who loves laptime & if I stop scritching will pull my hand back with his paw to make me carry on.

He often gets down voluntarily though after 20 mins or so (his fur is very dense, I think he overheats ) so I'm not tied to my chair for hours. Sometimes that's a good thing.

2 other cats, breeding unknown, both like laps too but are less demanding.

My cat is a rescue who was left locked in an abandoned property ( we don't know how long she was left in there before being found ) and is extremely needy - I love cat cuddles so we are well suited.

She inhales food though (the vet said she fears every meal is her last ) so her weight needs monitoring but generally she is the most affectionate cat I have ever had.

I would only get a rescue cat as there are so many cats like her that would be so happy to be looked after.

2 out of my 3 moggies are cuddle monsters. I often have both sleeping on top of me and they love a cuddle & strokes. They tell me off when I need the loo and disturb them.

I sleep on my side and one will sleep on top of me along my side, the other will be on my feet. They are adorable but are v demanding though... be warned.

My rescue moggie is very bonded and cuddly. He sleeps in the bed and follows me everywhere. He was supposed to be nervous and difficult to rehome and hid for 2 months when I got him home, but suddenly decided he lived me. I'd suggest picking a small cat as he makes your legs go numb when he sits on you for too long!

My moggie is a cuddler. He actually puts his paws round my neck and nuzzles my face when I pick him up! He follows me around crying to be petted. He's also terrible with stealing food and occasionally pounces on passing toes so not completely perfect! I've had him since he was tiny but agree you could be more certain with an adult rescue.

One of mine is a total cuddler, he's nicknamed Shadow as he just follows me constantly.

If I'm walking, he's underneath my feet. Standing, he's sat on my feet meowing until I stroke him. If I'm sitting, he's lying on top of me purring and drooling.

I adore him but I would love to have my bed to myself once in a while.

I have 2 tortoiseshell moggies we got as kittens from a rescue. One loves to sit next to you but not on you, her sister however will jump up for a cuddle even when I'm vertical. It is sweet but painful and I don't get much done these days.... A lap cat is one thing, a needy cat is another.

I have a big ginger/white tom who is cuddly to the extreme and will sit on your chest and literally have you pinned to the sofa. He will lick your face off if you let him...which I don't. also have a small tabby who is the opposite. Doesn't like being picked up and will sit close to you but never on lap.
