I think my Flynn would cope - he is a siamese & very person orientated

I reckon I could take him for walks if he wasn't so lazy - we took our previous to tenporary accommodation for about 6 weeks & that worked (apart from her stalking a deer she fancied for breakfast)

What do you think? Are there Cat friendly cottages to rent?

I haven't...but it was on the table when I had a Siamese and yes you do get places that take cats.

Our cat used to come on holiday in the caravan. Came back from one holiday pregnant, the little slapper.

I used to take my Siamese boys away on U.K holidays. (I can't take Seniorboy because his sight is now too poor/non existent - who knows, precisely.) You can certainly find cat-friendly places to stay although they might, on occasion, be temporarily taken aback to discover that it's a cat and not a dog. (Look for 'pet friendly'.)

There was a similar thread a little while ago and I was shocked to see so many people did take them away and more shocked that they let their fluff bombs roam around, I thought cats were quite territorial and I'd be so worried they would take a hike home

Mine are indoor ones but would love to take them on holiday miss them so much when we go away :) no roaming though one of mine could bring home some trouble.

I never let them go outside if they were staying somewhere else on a temporary basis. Siamese are a bit different to normal cats though - if they've bonded, they tend to take a 'Where my Mummy is, that's my home' attitude.

DD is working until the early hours of Christmas morning at her college town so I'd like to spend Christmas closer to Basildon

But I need the cat!!

& he is a 5 minute everyother day to eat grass outside type cat

Taken dcat twice to self catering in Wales without any problems. After the first day or so he is completely settled, and happy to be left if we are out. The summer we had a flat with an enclosed patio which I took him out to for a few minutes every day and the previous year we had a house with a balcony on which he enjoyed sitting watching passing dogs.
Depends on the cat though.

I took mine, but he is a very dog like creature who follows me around and comes when called. He wasn't allowed to roam around on his own, but went out on a lead. Previous cats that I have owned would have loathed the whole experience and much preferred staying at home with a pet sitter. He's a moggie but from what Siamese owners say, I think his character is siamese-like, in that he wants to be with me, wherever I am and makes himself at home as long as I am there. He's also abnormally obedient for a cat!

Is he black?

Yes, he's a huge (7Kg) black fluff ball. He came from a hoarding situation, so is probably his own first cousin, but is freakishly intelligent and has been clicker trained (mainly to occupy his mind that would otherwise be engaged in working out how to open cupboards, remove clothes from the wardrobe etc) and can do sit, up, down, come etc. He's unlike any cat I have had before!

Sounds as if he has Siamese in him. ( A goodly dose even.)

We once took a kitten too young to be left in a cattery to a forest holiday cabin (pet friendly). She had a lovely time. Too young to be let outside anyway so that was not an issue.

It does mean that if you're self-catering, you have to eschew the cUp of tea when you arrive in the cottage though. You have to make the bed first. If you have a Siamese!

It's anybody's guess cozie. I did ponder ragdoll as he loves being picked up and groomed, you can cart him around like a teddy if you want to, but I think his ancestry, other than "inbred", will never be known! But to avoid hijacking OP's question, yes, it's perfectly possible, but know your cat's character and be realistic.

weeds I had a black cat who was like a dog too. Bloody loved him I did.

I've never owned a cat since because I don't know of a cat with a similar disposition.
I lived in a house share so when I went to bed I'd have a cup of tea in one hand and the cat tucked in the other arm.

In the summer we were on a campsite in the south of France in our motorhome. I was pretty shocked at the number of people who take their cats on holiday. We could see at least 3 cats from our van, they just roamed around like dogs and popped in and out of the campers.

Dona I feel grateful that I had other cats first as I could love them for being themselves. Current cat is that once in a lifetime pet and if I'd had him first it would have created unrealistic expectations for future cats.

Well all we can do is ask I guess

He would really miss me if we left him behind - he gets upset if I leave him with DH for the day

Katy if he is that attached then he will probably be fine. As long as you plan in advance and lead train him if he will want to go outside. When I trialed mine I took him to a venue very close to home incase he hated it, in which case he could have gone back home and cat sitter would have taken over. Is there any possibility of a trial run e.g. couple of nights at a close by friend's house so you can get a feel for it?

Well it's only for 3 days anyway - if I canfind anywhere
