Tomorrow Obie is going in for a back sack and cr... full shave :(
I feel MORTIFIED that we have to do this, but he is the great un-groomable cat. 24 pounds of bad attitude under a totally matted Maine Coon coat.
(his sister is knot free.. 10 mins a day grooming keeps her beautiful!)

SO... I have to starve him tonight from now.He likes food. A lot. He is not happy that there is now nothing down and he will be even less happy at breakfast when I try to wrestle his considerable bulk into the cat carrier!!!!

Jabba the Hut is going to look like a fat slug by tomorrow afternoon :(

How on earth are you going to get that enormous (and utterly beautiful) boy into a cat carrier??? It's going to take at least three of you, I reckon, and you're going to need an extra large cat box Grin

We had to get the Persians done, it feels like a failure but some cats just don't let you groom them.

Have you got a zoom groom? It's meant to be more comfortable for them.

The vet will probably be glad they don't have to take a comb to him regularly. You can't argue with 24lb of cat.

Shall you try to start grooming him after he returns from the vet? (There's just a slim chance that he'll be more amenable to it if it doesn't hurt at all.)

I will indeed...we have never stopped trying, but he will only ever give us about 5 mins max groom time every few days and it's just not enough..he has the thickest coat I have ever seen on a cat!

For those wondering... he goes in a dog carrier Grin

I'd still start trying almost the moment he returns - even if it's only a quick pass over his flanks, a daily session ought to be part of his day. With lurrvv and Dreamies etc. Smile

(I haven't needed to try that thing that Fluffy mentioned but maybe a different device might be a useful idea?)

I have wondered about forking out for professional clippers..they are about £200, but given that today is going to cost well over £100 it might be worth it..he'd hate it for sure but he might get used to it (and we'd wear body armour!) Not sure what clippers would be appropriate tho!

We have a zoom groom and our cat loves it! It's silicone and the 'spikes' give a massage as you go apparently. Our girl is short haired though. Our previous cat loved his too though used to get a bit excited and his willy would poke out......

Our cat will only tolerate the futminator. It isn't a problem though as he isn't very fluffy. When I was a child we had a cat that had to be sedated and clipped every spring. He was a rescue and there was just no reasoning with him.

Least your boy will be cool for summer :)

Yup he is shaved..barring head, tail and a few leg bits. He doesn't seem unduly bothered , just a bit puzzled.

MAYBE he'll let us groom him when the fuzz regrows.. in the meantime sun cream in this weather!

His sister just looked at him and I swear she said 'WTF?!'

Aw bless.

I do my MC 4/5 times a day for about 30 seconds at a time. She comes to get brushed when I call her.

If there are small mats I put a tiny amount of coconut oil onto it.
