Tomorrow Obie is going in for a back sack and cr... full shave :(
I feel MORTIFIED that we have to do this, but he is the great un-groomable cat. 24 pounds of bad attitude under a totally matted Maine Coon coat.
(his sister is knot free.. 10 mins a day grooming keeps her beautiful!)

SO... I have to starve him tonight from now.He likes food. A lot. He is not happy that there is now nothing down and he will be even less happy at breakfast when I try to wrestle his considerable bulk into the cat carrier!!!!

Jabba the Hut is going to look like a fat slug by tomorrow afternoon :(

(yes I'll post a pic! )

I'm sorry....I wish I could smother the laughter that is trying to bubble out Grin

Least he will be cooler

Iknownuffink · 06/06/2016 17:07

Oops posted to soon.

Then I tell her that she has the tools to deal with matting. She then grooms where the oil has been applied.

Sucksfake1 · 06/06/2016 17:13

Oh my days he does not look impressed Grin

NeedACleverNN · 06/06/2016 17:17

This was my mums old dog before and after shoot.

As she grew she stayed that lovely dark brown colour with the owl framed eyes but became so knotty she had to be clipped. She grew back that blonde colour Grin

Yes it's the same dog...shockingly

Wish me luck..

Looks like a fierce tiger :)

Vinorosso74 · 06/06/2016 17:45

Oh poor Obie! Will he need sunblock now?

StillMedusa · 06/06/2016 18:07

He almost never lies out in full sun, but I shall suncream him if needed.. hopefully in a week's time he will have a bit of fuzz growing back!

Poor lad but it's got to be done. Is sun cream safe for cats to lick off?.

mypropertea · 06/06/2016 21:08

Sudocrem is a very good complete sun block. I used it on my horses nose. However I would probably check with the vet, and it would go everywere!

HemanOrSheRa · 06/06/2016 21:14

I am always fascinated by the Maine Coon threads. They are such beautiful cats.

Bless Obie. He's still trying to look majestic and all fierce. When really he looks a bit funny Grin.

Floralnomad · 06/06/2016 21:33

Have you checked whether any of the local dog groomers would do him , where my dog goes they advertise that they groom cats as well ,although I've never seen one in there .

mypropertea · 06/06/2016 22:04

I wish they did his tail but left the tip fluffy, like a little lion.

StillMedusa · 06/06/2016 22:47

His tail does look a bit funny, all furry!
He just caught sight of his own reflection in the mirror and looked all surprised.. (no idea if he knows it's him or thinks 'what a weird looking cat that is!')

Hopefully in a week or two he won't look as bad! BUT it was essential, and we can see he is more comfortable without the matts in his fur. Just wish he'd let us groom him...his sister loves it and rolls for me to do each side!

When I saw the first pic, I went "Oh, that's not too bad!!" Then I saw the second picture... GrinGrin
What a cutie!

cozietoesie · 07/06/2016 00:22

I think he's great. He looks just like a small(ish) lion. Smile

frostyfingers · 07/06/2016 09:03

He does more than a little put out but I bet with this hot weather he's feeling much better for his new look. Slightly off the wall suggestion but does he like being stroked? I bought these, mostly for my horse but have used them on both the cat and the dogs and they do get out a lot of fluff and even the cat seems quite happy.
