8 week old kitten with diarrhoea

We picked up our new kitten yesterday. She is lively, eating well and drinking water but her poo seems very loose. Should I be concerned?

It's probably a bit of stress from all the excitement. If it lasts for a period of time or the kitten starts to get a bit lethargic then start to worry

My cat was like this when we first got him too. We had to change his food and he's been fine ever since. Might be an idea to change food and see if that makes a difference. What are you feeding him just now?

Whiskas kitten food, both wet and dry. What did you switch to?

Get rid of the whiskers.
It's not the best food.

Try and find something as high in meat as possible that actually labels the meat. I.e chicken not animal deritives

8 weeks is too young to be taken from her mother.

Do not feed her milk, most cats are Lacoste intolerant.

Try an ensure that you are feeding grain free wet food.

Sometimes dry cat biscuits are contaminated with salmonella and other nasties.

Our kitten was like this when we got him. He was also 8 weeks. I think it was the change in food and stress at being in a new environment. He settled down after about 4 days.

That was what we had too. We switched to a pets at home own brand organic kibble. He was older though so we had stopped wet food by that time. My vet said that whiskas wasn't ideal but to definitely not feed him Go Cat. I just went for the most natural I could find in pets at home that didn't cost a fortune. It's maybe not as healthy as it seems but he's never had a problem since.

was the mother de flead wormed amd vaccinated?

We use this on our kitten. It's tiny kibble and easy on the gut. Can be mixed with water if needed to encourage them to eat. Apparently the pet shop told me RSPCA put all their cats adult and Young on this if they have diarrhoea

We were told the mother was but I have no way of knowing for sure.

Doesn't matter if the mother was wormed, the kitten itself needs worming again at 4,8 and 12 weeks

The one we use is called Purely Holistic. It's in a brown paper bag and I'm sure it's Pets at Home own brand.

(obviously the kitten needs it's own set of jabs I asked as I wondered of they perhaps showed the records if they didn't vaccinate the kittens) to get an.idea of what the owners were really like

She has not been vaccinated yet. She has been wormed (we were told) but we will do it again. We got her from an advert.

We did yes. She seemed fine.

Well I'll probably get flamed fir this but unless you got her from a shelter or from a proper breeder, I'd assume that those who just let their cat breed are probably lax on other things too like flea treatment etc.

I'd be inclined to book her in ASAP fir a check up and vaccinations.

good chance it's just the food and stress of recent events. but I'd want to get her checked over.

these situations cab often be something other than they seem and id not want to take any chances
