Fitted one at great expense (!!) and cat is slowly getting used to using it if l hold it open and push him through but if I do the same from the outside it doesn't open Confused

Cat definitely has his microchip in still as I got the vet to check.

Any ideas?

LOL bit of fish on the inside and shut him out Wink

stealthsquiggle · 20/04/2016 20:54

Randommess - do call them about the battery usage. Ours was chewing through batteries and locking the cats in/out when the batteries went. DH called them and after checking a couple of things they just sent a new one. Not had any problems since.

Both cats were mildly disconcerted by the clicks to start with, but soon got the hang of it and it has made the world of difference to their confidence as the local bully-cats no longer come in and help themselves to the food.

RandomMess · 20/04/2016 21:04

I have nagged DH about it yet again, and he has agreed to phone them "tomorrow"!

ChocolateJam · 21/04/2016 17:57

One of ours took about two months to figure out how to go out and another couple of months before she figured out coming in! The other one refuses to use the flap and is now mostly an indoor cat.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/04/2016 18:00

Oh bugger,we're still in training but seems there's something wrong with the flap AA it's not closing when I post cat in from outside. I'll ring CS tomorrow.

After yesterday's success today was a bit disappointing as cat went to the flap then stopped dead and looked at it like he'd never seen it before in his life Hmm

Sureflap customer service are excellent - when I had a problem with our microchip cat flap they sent a replacement the next day, no quibbles.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/04/2016 19:26

I'll ring them.

I gave Cat some fish ,he turned his nose up and walked away!! Will have to go back to flap training with Dreamies HmmGrin

I agree. Their customer service is fabulous. We've had no problems with ours - doesn't munch batteries and cats all use it fine. They'd much rather we opened the door for them but that's cats for you :)

Kerberos · 21/04/2016 19:32

Ah yes. Should have mentioned we've had no problems since we had one replaced by them (hence knowing their customer service is fab). They even custom made a part for us when one of the early models had a fault.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/04/2016 07:24

Guess who got the hang of it at 4.30 am and was so pleased with himself he told us all about it at top volume?HmmGrin

Need to shut the bedroom door tonight and wear ear plugs!

Grin I hope you congratulated him suitably enthusiastically.

We had a problem with ours in that the batteries kept going flat really quickly which meant the flap wouldn't work and the cats were locked in or out.

Couldn't understand why so Dh spoke to Sureflap. Apparently you have to make sure the flap is kept very clean. If dirt or fur obstruct the sensors then they are stuck constantly 'on' looking for a cat to identify, therefore overusing the battery. Now we know and keep it free of debris it works fine and the batteries last.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/04/2016 09:14

Just spoke to CS and they said loosen the screws half a turn and if that doesn't work they'll send out a replacement. Fingers crossed that works as it was a PITA to fit!!

Sureflap customer service is brilliant. I had a brown one and my cats kept tearing the reflective sticker so it ate batteries. They sent me new stickers and when that didn't solve the problem, sent me a new white catflap which works perfectly and doesn't have the sticker problem.

This was over the course of 18 months or so

OnTique · 22/04/2016 09:56

It's great to hear fantastic CS acknowledged Smile. A lesson there for lots of other bigger companies who take your money and don't care if you have a problem afterwards. (mentioning no names but tumble dryer CS rage has featured in my life this week).

RandomMess · 22/04/2016 19:42

So after 12 fcking months of having asked DH to phone up CS because there has been a faulty batch and ours could be one, yes it bl*dy is!!!!

New one has been despatched...

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/04/2016 22:02

They've sent out a new one. Looking forward to fitting itHmm

Excellent customer service though!!

I've got to send the other one back which is a pain in the arse.

Our replacement has also arrived, wonder how long it takes DH to install it (they are his cats)...

Just had to get out of bed to let girl cat in as flap not working AGAIN

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 27/04/2016 07:10

Did they ask you to return the original one? The PO is packed and miles away from us?

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/05/2016 15:06

Soooooooooo,

New one is installed- it took hoursHmm

Fucking thing STILL stays open when cat comes in! Dh is going to try weighting it to see if that helps. Not happy really,it's not like they're cheap and I still have to send the other one back! At least they sent a pre paid envelope!

Just to say that my Sure petflap unlocks and locks perfectly but the door gets stuck open! It gradually works its way shut over the next half an hour.

StevePritch · 25/01/2021 19:07

Yep we have the same issue. Works for one cat and not the other, despite him going in and out when on learn mode. Was there a solution to this?

Clarich007 · 26/01/2021 08:36

We had the same problem it was locking the cat out. We rang them, they were brilliant and asked about the batteries we were using, which were cheap ones..They suggested Duracell. We changed them and have had no problem for over a year.I do clean the catflap every week though as it gets really muddy and full of fur.

Adele19764840 · 06/10/2023 21:39

My cat flap has suddenly started draining the batteries (3 changes in 3 days)😭😥
I've cleaned it and cleaned but it keeps draining.

Anyone any suggestions

How old is it? Customer services were good in my experience.
