My beloved boy was hit by a car and killed outright. My DD found him on her way back from work. Can't stop crying. He not even 2 years old.

Icequeen01 · 07/03/2016 20:01

I've been there too and I know how heartbreakingly awful it is. My heart goes out to you.

Penfold007 · 07/03/2016 20:02

mrsdolittle I am so very sorry. We lost Penfoldboy today after a short illness, he had been part of our lives for 16 years.

Twowrongsdontmakearight · 07/03/2016 20:05

So very sad for you. Cats need their independence but it is a huge worry. X

mrsdolittle · 07/03/2016 20:08

I feel soooooo guilty. Our previous cat (also very young) was killed in the same spot. I really agonised about getting another one but it isn't really a busy road and no one else seemed to have had a problem. A lady who has lived on the road virtually all her life has had scores of cats and never had one run over. So we put it down to bad luck and got New Cat from CPL when he was 12 weeks old. He had a very different nature from Previous Cat (who was a complete loon and semi feral imo) and seemed much more sensible around cars. The thing is that there are allotments the other side of the road and the lure of hunting is so strong. I know I can't have another cat while we live here and that makes me even sadder. I am not to be trusted as a cat owner it appearsSad

It's shit.

I'm not sure I can do it all again. Your heart can only break so many times.

timtam23 · 07/03/2016 20:22

Mrsdoolittle and Penfold I am so sorry, very sad news from you both Flowers

cozietoesie · 07/03/2016 20:32

I'm so sorry mrsdolittle. We lost an adored boy to the main road when he was young also.

It doesn't mean you can't have a cat in future though. Do you think you could find room in your heart, for example, to one who needed to be inside? (If you would be too anxious to have a future outside- going cat.)

Heyheyheygoodbye · 07/03/2016 20:39

I'm so dreadfully sorry, OP Sad RIP little cat.

mrsdolittle · 07/03/2016 20:44

I really don't know Cozie. I don't think our household would be ideal for an indoor cat. The dog and kids are in and out of the garden all the time especially in summer and I would be a nervous wreak in case the cat got out. I adored having a cat but I think now I would be so anxious about them all the time that it would be counter productive (worry for safety of cat would override joy of having a cat). Because of what happened to our first cat I worried terribly about the new one. And tragically I was right to worry. Don't think I can go through it again. Sad

As I said. You can only go through it so many times.

cozietoesie · 07/03/2016 20:48

Oh you can - and do.

You don't become calloused to their deaths but you do learn to live with it, I think. And they bring such love and fun to our lives.

Don't close yourself off to the thought is all I'm saying. Maybe some day?

LittleRedSparke · 07/03/2016 20:51

So sorry mrsdolittle. We lost our young boy cat on a quietish road a few years ago too. I was also reluctant to get another, but we did, a girl cat who luckily is a real homebody and doesn't venture far. Flowers for you
