So I'm getting a maine coon girl in 11wks (only a week old). I have 3 cats already who are very spoilt but the local rescue won't consider us.

Photos would be good Smile

MILs youngest boy is huge, absolutely huge and still growing. One of the judges reckons he is the biggest he's ever seen...

I always think the girls look tiny in comparison!

MsAlbertine · 15/02/2016 20:16

I have a beautiful MC boy.
House boy rules the roost.
Very vocal but so affectionate .
Costs around £100 a month to feed him and a lot in litter- daily tray change as very fussy about having a clean tray.
Get pet insurance as heart problems are common. Most breeders get them tested for the genetic heart condition but there are other heart issues.
Great with kids.
But they are large...my boy 23lbs

Liara · 15/02/2016 20:24

We have an 18month old silver boy, who weighs 9 kg and probably eats his body weight in food per day, and a 5yo ginger girl who is a relatively dainty 7kg and a complete and total queen bee.

They are the gentlest, loveliest cats on the planet. My 5yo often wanders around the house carrying his cat, (who is almost the same size as him), and he just hangs there purring away. Ds adores him, and sometimes spends hours sitting and chatting to his cat, who patiently sits next to him listening.

The female is a bit of an attention seeker, and has a tendency to come up and demand strokes when you are e.g. on top of a ladder or up on the roof, but apart from that she is a wonderful cat. She has the loudest purr I have ever heard in any cat ever.

We have had two other male MCs, unfortunately both died young. They were just as lovely.

DartmoorDoughnut · 15/02/2016 20:28

I am so jealous OP! Would love a MC but stupid DH is allergic

NantucketNightbird · 15/02/2016 20:51

NantucketNightbird · 15/02/2016 21:03

Apparently all the kittens have a silver under tone to their coats but what colour does she look she will be?

cozietoesie · 15/02/2016 21:13

She looks as if she's going to be a bossyboots. Have you seen her at play yet!

JudgeBooby · 15/02/2016 21:16

Very friendly, very intelligent and affectionate (my boy could 'play' fetch). In my experience, their intelligence can also lead to neurotic behaviour. They need a lot of attention and companionship, and also in my experience their lifespan seems to be slightly shorter than a bog standard mixed breed cat.

NantucketNightbird · 15/02/2016 21:20

I don't meet her until the end of the month then I get to take her home last day of April.

So far dd thinks she can choose the name... Totoro Grin

There seems to a general problem with 'reading' second or more pictures in the same post, Nantucket. I don't think it's you if you're having problems posting them.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/02/2016 22:10

OOOH a thread for me!!

I have 3 maine coons at the moment - 2 massive boys and a rather dinky girl. And I've also paid the deposit on a lovely little girl kitten who we should get around easter time.

We have a cream tabby, a ginger tabby and a blue and white at the moment, and new girl is a silver tortie tabby.

They're amazing cats, so sweet and affectionate and ours are all fabulously tolerant with kids. Get a BIG litter tray though - we have the catit jumbo xl covered ones. And you want a seriously heavy duty scratch post too, we've had one which attaches to the wall from petfun.de (with hammocks too) which is 3 years old and still in perfect condition. All others...obliterated!

StillMedusa · 17/02/2016 22:32

Mine ignored my fabulous scratching post... and have demolished the bottom stair...they like to claw themselves round the bottom of the staircase, which now looks like a mangled sheep Grin

And I recently got a fabulous patchwork sofa which they keep trying to shred.

They aren't all nice well behaved cats tho.. Morph was perfect, Ophie is sweet as can be, Obie is an asshole... likes to pee in the shower drain, pounces on Ophie and Portia and refuses to be groomed. He isn't very cuddly either. BUT he does have character Grin

IBelieveInPink · 17/02/2016 22:39

My boy is 7 now.... Still plays fetch like a 1year old given half a chance.

My carpets hate him though.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/02/2016 22:42

My current lot will all use the big wall mounted post but they either ignored or destroyed - depending on the cat- smaller ones.

I have a phantom crapper who's taken a shine to a particular spot despite 2 huge trays. Just ordered a motion activated repellent to try and stop that little hobby.

Wouldn't be without them though.

My cream boy is close to 2 stone, ginger is less but fluffier so looks more, and little girl is about 7lb but rules the roost. She's very wee for an MC but has every other trait in spades including the weirdest range of chirps meets beeps and burbles I've ever heard

IAmcuriousyellow · 17/02/2016 22:52

Here is Dandelion, Prince of Orange and King of my heart to be honest now he's settled, nearly a year on, he's everything MCs sre supposed to be - cheerful, chatty, chirruping, cuddly... oh my. I was briefly tempted to try to find a silver tabby girl, but he is such a hunter (killer) and I'm reluctant to add to the carnage! Best cats EVER.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/02/2016 22:57

He's very like my big lump yellow. I've had a silver tabby before and they're very beautiful

The only thing mine hunt is spiders. Which is good cos I hate them

IAmcuriousyellow · 17/02/2016 23:15

He does catch flies, but spiders not yet. Hopefully he'll add them to his repertoire! When I first got him I wondered if he'd ever get over his past life, but he's come a long way from the greasy little cat with toothache who cowered under a bed for six weeks.. he's put on a lot of weight without getting fat but just getting bigger everywhere - he's huge when he stretches out for his pine cone on a string! But he eats like a Labrador and can literally do five breakfasts, the git. I love these Maine Coon photos and very much look forward to OP's kitty updates.

NantucketNightbird · 18/02/2016 08:36

I have loved all these tales of your beautiful cats. I'm hopeful for an update today (keep checking my emails). Smile
