a cat has camped out on our doorstep; what next?

we already feed a stray cat- she lives in our shed and has done for the last three years. (trapped and neutered). Another stray was very kindly adopted by a MNetter's (fenneltea) mam

However a week ago a ginger and white tom sat on our doormat at the back and hasn't shifted since. He is very clean and friendly but won't go away, clawing and meowing at the back door and desperately tries to push his way in when we go out. We put a bowl of food out and he hoovered it up licking the plate around on the patio. He pats on the glass door with his paw

He's been done and doesn't spray and has a nick taken out of one of his ears

Most importantly he appears to be the first cat that dh doesn't come out with hives with or itchy, sneezing , watery eyes etc

he is currently asleep on my chair Grin

what can we do next?

He is beautiful Smile I like your rug & stove too!

(I've been speculating about the composer & decided Elgar would a great cat name. I'm still looking for a name for my kitten who's been here 2 months & is still called Kitten. I'm rubbish at names Grin)

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/11/2015 16:38

This thread has completely made my day ... you SO much did the right thing, Gatekeeper, and this is your (and the clearly very comfortable Mr Cat's!!) reward. Not that you'd have had a choice, of course; they decide where they want to live and there's very little anyone can do about it Wink

Surely with your username, you should have a wealth of ideas - how about Rob?! Grin

gatekeeper so glad it worked out, it was obviously meant to be Happy Christmas [santa]

Gatekeeper · 25/11/2015 16:56

What a lovely, happy ending. I think I have something in my eye...

FinestGrundyTurkey · 25/11/2015 18:18

Oh, Vivaldi - how elegant! Are you sticking with Sherlock? He looks like a Sherlock & it was such a neat reason for a name.

Bagel, I did think about Grundy actually, but it was vetoed Grin Too many opinionated people in this house Confused (& no children)

FinestGrundyTurkey · 25/11/2015 18:19

I've just this second remembered that Ed Reardon's cat is called Elgar. No wonder I thought it's a good name!

Celen · 25/11/2015 18:21

Awesome update, so pleased for you! Smile

OnlyLovers · 25/11/2015 18:24

Awwwww! Came to this thread late and have read it in a oner, so got the full roller-coaster effect.

He has definitely picked his own favourite family, OP.

I love this: dh is currently showing him how the dishwasher works[ grin] What, so he can earn his keep?

OnlyLovers · 25/11/2015 18:25

Oh. Grin, obviously. Bold fail as well.

Pipbin · 25/11/2015 20:36

I've only just come to this thread too.
I told DH about it and he was tearful!

ZebraOwl · 30/11/2015 21:48

Oh but this is so splendid & I may possibly be having a slight cry because I'm so pleased for you all...

As soon as you said he was called for a composer I guessed his name by the way - I got my musician friend to call her ginger cat the same thing Grin

Gatekeeper · 01/12/2015 08:50

he has about ten different names now Grin

Vivaldi
Sherlock
Ginger Furry-Chops
Bum- Crumb
Charles Aznavour
Himself
Furry Cat-Boy
Wail-ey Pants
The Young Master
Boss

and obviously the name that only he knows

Grin Grin about the names

Mind you, I wouldn't worry - he probably won't answer to any of them unless it suits him!!

Archfarchnad · 01/12/2015 19:06

"his real name is Vivaldi"

Damn! I had high hopes it was going to be Rimsky-Korsakov. Imagining shouting that out the back door in the evening.

And what is it with male cats in particular that makes them like sleeping flat on their backs with a head turned to one side? Archcat does it too. Is it in memory of the days when their pom-poms would get in the way of a sidewards position?

You're on our wavelength with all the names though: Archcat's nicknames are Sir, The Boy, The Lad, Fatso, Mister Boss-Man, Poochy-Poo, Tiger (tabby), Buster - and he ignores all of them. On the other hand, if you have Dreamies on offer, he's prepared to be called anything.

BuggersMuddle · 01/12/2015 20:04

Just caught up on this thread. What a lovely outcome all round and what a handsome cat.

We also took on our cat when he was unhappy and kept running away from neighbours. A few less attractive present aside, he is an absolute delight Grin

Bonbonchance · 01/12/2015 23:01

Just read the whole thread! Tears!! How amazing for you all SmileSmileSmile
