Another cat missing....

MissMarpleCat · 10/10/2015 20:55

My youngest has been missing for about 48 hours. She went missing for 4 days when she escaped at 7 months, but has since spent nearly every night on our bed. I work nights and she didn't return last night, DP has been here, no sign of her last night when I went to work, or returned this morning.
We're really worried, I couldn't sleep after my night shift, we've done the Hoover bag scattering, been out numerous times today with food bowl, shaking food, calling her and the dreamies. We've asked neighbours to look in garages/sheds. We're getting very worried now. I just want her home Sad. Apart from her first disappearance this is out of character.

She is microchipped.

I appologise for the drip feeding, but I'm knackered! She's 20 months and was spayed at 6 months.

Is there a local Facebook page you can post on? People are usually pretty helpful and news spreads quickly on social media.

Just keep knocking on doors and calling. Don't give up. 48 hours isn't very long.

MissMarpleCat · 10/10/2015 21:51

Dd has put it on FB. The rational part of me knows 48 hours isn't that long, but the irrational part of me frets about her being hurt, no food, no water, cat knapped or (my worst fear) dead somewhere. Thank you for your response.

Any news today?

If not, few more things you could do...

Post on Animal Search UK website
Check with the local cat rescue
Check with local vet
Check with the Council - they do pick up dead animals - sorry, not implying anything but might help to put your mind at rest
Create some flyers and put them on lamp posts
Check under nearby trees and bushes

I know exactly how you feel. It is horrible. Hoping you have some good news soon.

MissMarpleCat · 11/10/2015 18:48

Still missing Sad
Thanks for the advice, will ring round tomorrow morning.

How horrid, I live in fear of my baby going missing. I hope she comes home soon.

MissMarpleCat · 11/10/2015 18:56

Thank you. It is horrible Sad

Maybe she's got stuck in someone's shed? The weather has been good the last few days and people have been sweeping leaves and getting their gardens ready for winter...

Or maybe she snuck into an open car door? Our cat is a horror for this. He actually runs towards cars and vans as people get in/out. I'm usually running down the road after him!

Try to stay positive. Lots of cats come home...

x

Thanks Bakeoff, we did wonder if she may have gone in a van or car. We've put it on FB and asked neighbours to check sheds. She's very distinctive as she's the only grey cat in our neighbourhood. I'm going to ring round vets/shelters in the morning and DP is going to make flyers at work tomorrow.

How old is she, MissMarple?

Our old cat disappeared. I searched and searched for him, did all of the above and eventually found him a couple of weeks later in a field very close to our house. Unfortunately, he was dead but I've since found out that cats do go off on their own when they feel poorly. Apparently, they instinctively go into the wild as they need to appear stronger to predators. Our cat was only 12 and appeared to be in fine fettle. I took him to the vet and she said that he had just died (nothing untoward).

i feel quite sad that he was so close and I didn't manage to find him. Not really sure what I'm trying to say really but I guess don't rule anything out and check under all the trees and hedges. She may be closer than you think.

MissMarpleCat · 11/10/2015 22:52

That's really sad Sad she's 20 months.

BakeOffBabe · 11/10/2015 23:20

Yeah, really hard and DH was away when I found him so I had to carry him home on my own. Thought my heart was going to break in half... Sad

Anyway, your little one is much younger so hopefully hasn't disappeared for that reason. Will keep my fingers crossed for you.

MissMarpleCat · 11/10/2015 23:26

How awful for you Flowers
Thanks for the support.

Fingers & paws crossed for you OP. Mine went missing for 3 days aged 7 months. It was the worst time, lots of crying - fortunately he turned up out of the blue at 3am. We never found out where he's been but he smelt musty so probably stuck in a shed somewhere. We did everything you have done plus all the other suggestions on here such as ringing environmental health (who keep records of dead animals picked up). Also asked postman/milkman to keep an eye out & we hung his blanket on the washing line to give a scent of home for him.

Keep us posted.

It's such a stressful time OP, I really feel for you Sad

I got my two girls (sisters) from the cat rescue centre three years ago as ten-week old kittens. I had never raised such nervous little beings in my life (and I've been 'mum' to seven cats through to their late teens or early twenties).

The girls are micro-chipped although neither has ever expressed the remotest desire to venture outside. Two weeks ago I had new central heating installed - that was stressful enough, however one cat went missing at the same time. I had my plumber come back and lift floorboards all over the house, did the dreamies thing, searched indoors and outdoors for hours; absolutely nothing.

Her sister didn't seem remotely concerned until one morning when I think she got a sniff of big sis and started clawing at the floor....she was in the floor void under the house, where the gas main comes in to the meter. She hadn't made a sound the whole time.

She had no access to food or water, so I was a mess fearing the worst. She got very thin but is completely fine and is in fact now eating like a dusty furry horse. She was missing for 6 days and 5 nights altogether.

I hope your girl turns up safe and well Flowers

MissMarpleCat · 12/10/2015 15:43

Oh poor kitty, glad you found her Smile. We've printed some fliers, rang round vets and rspca and CPL.
We're keeping everything crossed and hoping she returns. My Tom cat is very forlorn, they were play mates Sad

hiddenhome2 · 12/10/2015 23:20

Oh, God, it's such a terrible worry. I really feel for you. That awful sinking feeling.

You're doing everything you can. She returned before. Keeping all fingers and toes crossed.

BakeOffBabe · 13/10/2015 21:37

How are you getting on MissMarple, any news?

MissMarpleCat · 14/10/2015 20:04

No news yet, I admit to fearing the worst.

OP posts:
timtam23 · 14/10/2015 21:12

So sorry you have had no news yet OP. Try not to give up hope. Thoughts with you all.

BakeOffBabe · 14/10/2015 22:15
Sad

Try to stay positive. You don't what has happened. Lots of cats come home even after months away. Hopefully she will be one of the happy endings.

x

MissMarpleCat · 15/10/2015 15:48

We're keeping everything crossed, thanks for the kind words.

hiddenhome2 · 15/10/2015 17:10

Seriously, I'd practically written Pearl off when she was missing, but there she was after six days.

Is your kitty microchipped?
