How does your cat wake you up?

My girl didn't wake me up for her breakfast this morning. She just went out to play in the garden.

Anyway, normally she makes some very loud jumps followed by making pudding with her claws ever so slightly out so it makes a noise.

How about your cat? What does your furry alarm clock do?

Sits on and kneads my face......

GRW · 03/05/2015 01:11

By sitting on the pillow purring, and a very gentle tap on the nose. He knows the time too because he always does it at 7am. I don't need an alarm clock [smile

RubbishMantra · 03/05/2015 01:54

Little Monsieur stands on my face.

MCat stares. And stares. And stares. Feline telepathy. If we're not receptive, he jumps onto DH's chest.

TwigletLola · 03/05/2015 02:55

They both scratch our bedroom door and whine to be fed anytime from 5am onwards. It's got so bad that we bought a timed cat feeder which helps except my partner often forgets to set it so then I make him get up and feed them! Grin

One day last week I woke up startled at 6am to feel a paw on my nose. He looked delighted and started purring, rubbing and cuddling up to me. Wasn't until a couple of hours later when I woke up properly that I realised he had actually stuck his claws into the side of my nose to wake me up! Still got the scratch marks.

This is the kitten we got a month ago and agreed wouldn't be sleeping in the bedroom...

chockbic · 03/05/2015 11:55

By mewing louder and louder until a full on petulant strop.

MrsBertMacklin · 03/05/2015 12:00

My cat's ever so polite: gently bunts my elbows and arms while making tiny 'mreh?' noises.

If that doesn't work, she will try to wake me by jumping around the bed - not easy to make noise / impact though, when you only weigh 7 pounds.

KaputKiss · 03/05/2015 12:01

I have three children waking me up already, so there was no way we would allow the cat to too!! Our cat sleeps in the utility and second sitting room area at night until we open to the door to let her out in the morning. Works well for us!

Pipbin · 03/05/2015 13:32

I love being woken up by my unashamed baby substitute cat.
When we had a bed that was lower to the ground she would sit at my side of the bed, reach under the duvet and tap my arm.

Madcat's a starer. You wake up and she's sat sphinx-like at the end of the bed, glaring. Either that or she picks fights with the lamb in the bedroom.

The lamb has a new one - she used to delicately insert a claw into a bare shoulder then pretend she was 'just stretching' but lately she's found that what really gets results is a zombie attack on my head, featuring gnawing and hair mussing, with some claw action to hold me in place. Then she hair stuck in her mouth and makes slurping noises in my ear trying to get rid of it. Really, extremely effective.

shaska · 03/05/2015 13:39

she *gets hair stuck in her mouth

BeaufortBelle · 03/05/2015 13:41

By knocking everything off my bedside table, from about 7am.

MadeinSouthWest · 03/05/2015 13:48

Bites my hair and tugs.

If I don't wake she moves on to the children and lastly DH. The other two cats don't wake us up.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 03/05/2015 13:52

Bangs on the door (from the inside) to tell me she wants her breakfast. Or if that doesn't work, stomps around on my pillows meowing loudly.

FrChewieLouie · 03/05/2015 13:54

I used to have one that would lick my eyelid Hmm.

DidoTheDodo · 03/05/2015 14:39

Girl kitty jumps on the bed and meows. Boy kitty waits for her to do it!

CaTsMaMmA · 03/05/2015 14:48

two of mine take it in turns to run up the bed, using the pillows like a trampette to launch themselves through the gap in the curtains, and thus into the window to chatter at the birds.

however, rather like the film HIghlander, apparently There.Can.Be.Only.One. in the windowsill at a time
no, actually I have no idea why two cats cannot share a medium sized windowsill, no idea at all
so more often than not one of them will run up the bed, jump for the gap in the curtains and then pause Matrix-stylee and allow gravity to take its course and then fall back onto the pillows

so mostly I am woken by falling cats. Which is nice.

however i am very very good at pretending to be asleep so it's usually dh who deals with them :o

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/05/2015 14:57

There's stages. If one stage doesn't work he progresses to the next.

  1. Poking me in the mouth with his paw, one claw out just enough to hurt but not draw blood.

  2. Walk around the bedside cabinet, knock the lamp over, knock something off. Purr loudly.

  3. Wee on something. Nothing gets me out of bed faster than thinking "ooh it must be raining out" then realising it's the cat pissing on a wall.

The cat sleeps downstairs in the utility room now.

What I want to know is how put them in charge of breakfast time anyway.

Christophewouldgetit · 03/05/2015 15:04

Like Pipbin, today was the first day since my cat arrived (7 months) when he hasn't tried to wake me up Smile He just rolled over and carried on sleeping until 10,30 when I got up - DC with their dad so my once a month lie in actually happened!

However, he normally yells at me and 'gently' kneads my face - particularly around my eyes! His yelling is very effective as it echoes through the house!

He has at least stopped yelling all night long which he did for the first few weeks as his previous owner let him out overnight. He's now my warm squidgy foot warmer Grin

Lovethesea · 03/05/2015 15:10

Huntercat is nowhere to be seen as he heads out at first light for the fields; when he returns he will curl up near me and wait if I'm in bed, or trip me up if I'm getting dressed with polite meows on rare occasions. Very low maintenance cat apart from the dead bodies!

Feistycat curls up near me and purrs loudly if the kids aren't bouncing around on me already. She is also very low maintenance but does leave scars all over me from digging her claws in as she sits on me!

QueenFuri · 03/05/2015 16:09

She stomps loudly up and down the bed until I wake up or sits on my face Hmm.

Pipbin · 04/05/2015 18:19

So today she stomped about on the bed purring in my face. Then she stood on my boobs to make sure I was properly awake.
It was 6.30 so I got up, fed her and went back to bed. 8am she starts again but this time she tries to tell DH that she hadn't been fed!

fackinell · 04/05/2015 18:31

Taps me until I lift the covers for him to come in for a cuddle. The other one doesn't wake us but he's a pee-er so when he jumps on the window ledge above our heads we are on red alert.

fackinell · 04/05/2015 18:37

Haha ca T, mine dothat too!!

dillydollydarling · 05/05/2015 12:14

Luna jumps on the bed and quietly meows at me for her breakfast. She does it just loud enough to wake me but quiet enough not to wake OH.

Squiffy just wakes me up with the noise he makes when he's got the crazies Grin I swear he stomps up and down the stairs!
