They aren't lap cats :(

Obie and Ophie are settled, growing well and seem happy. But neither of them are lap cats and it is making me sad. I KNOW I shouldn't compare them to Morph, but I miss the body on my lap (or round my neck) and I don't know how to encourage them. It seems like they have each other, so are less bothered with us. They generally lurk on the back of the sofa or curled up on a chair.
Obie comes on the bed but has a few strokes and bounces off. Ophie rolls on the floor for tummy tickles but won't stay. I just want someone to sit on me!

Someone said that Maine Coons often don't become cuddly til they are older, but Morph was always a cuddler so this is new to me.

Any suggestions? They love playing with their flying frenzy, they follow me to the loo (every damn time, and sit staring at me!) but they just don't lap sit.

Awww, I have two which are incredibly persistent at being lap cats and I push them off for annoying me. how old are they? It took mine about 4 months to approach us for lap cuddles.

They are 8 months old now... and I'm worried they will never want to cuddle me :(

My little monsieur has only begun to be more cuddly now. He's nearly 10 months. Now I wake up with him draped around my neck. He's a toilet fiend, like your's.

I think they're so bouncy and loony as kittens, that they just get so excited at the sight of you, that they get all frenzied and excited.

Your pair will decide they love cuddles.

I think the grief for such a loved, special cat takes a while to ease.

It is hard and your two might come around. For me, its accepting that The Claws is an entirely different beast. He has moments of affection and lapping but mainly is just a blur of fur and rippers

Took mine 2 yrs to become lap cats. Was sudden when it came. Don't despair.

They're a pair of teenagers at the moment, Medusa, so give it a bit of time.

(Morph was different and that's just the way of things. They all are.)

And I admit my grief for Morph is still so strong it means I want too much from them, when they are fab in their own ways. It's not fair to compare them but it's hard not to!

I've always had singleton Siamese myself and they've been - without exception - great cuddlers. I couldn't sleep properly these days without a furry body tucked in somewhere so I know exactly what you mean.

I'm sure they will get more cuddly as they mature.

I do wonder if having a pair was a mistake from that point of view, because they are very happy together, and need me less as a result.. I've not had a sibling pair before, and they are very close. However I will just have to be patient... I NEED a bed cat again!!!!

Not a mistake I'd say - just .......different. (And who knows but that one of them will soon start to win Cuddler Of The Year awards!)

My cat isn't a cuddly cat either. I loved having loves with my old cat. I really miss it. She is just not interested at all. She is 6month.
The only exception to this rule is she will come for cuddles when you are sat on the toilet, then she is all for being fussed, because she is a weirdo

They're bound to think "well that's just rude" and try to both squeeze on together while giving you filthy looks.

Cats in general do their own thing. I second the "ignore and they'll fight to sit on you" advice.

Definitely the ignore thing. If MCat's on my lap, then MKitten thinks it's the place to be and vice versa.

Two Burmese here, they didn't want laps, just each other. 11 years on and we don't get a minute to ourselves, worst is I have to carry one of them around like a baby on my shoulder as he still thinks he's a kitten. We always have one in our bed - wake up with him there - apart from when the DCs stay at XHs. Then we have them both. Two massive furry bricks hogging our king size

My Maine Coon started off by sitting next to me. Then he started leaning against me. Now he's a full on lap cat. Although sometimes he sits behind me on the back of the sofa and lovingly washes my hair. If I try to move, I get a whack from a big paw, and then the paw clamps on my head and the washing continues.

I think cats do get soppier as they get older, my boy cat was not a lap cat until he turned 2 or 3 and now he will shove the lap top off my lap if its in his way!! Girl cat is 8mo and has sat on my lap about 3 times I am not too worried, they get there in the end!

My rescue cat wasn't a lap cat either. She still never gets on our laps. Instead she sits next to us on the sofa, miaows for cuddles and even loves having her tum rubbed. So even if they never bother sitting on your lap, they may well get more cuddly over time.

Our other cat won't sit on laps, but is quite happy to be cuddled in your arms like a baby, for as long as you like!

I find with my Ragdoll, if he had a really good play early evening that will make him sleepy around 8pm, I gather him up and put him on my lap and he is so sleepy he stays there for a good hour for sleepy strokes/cuddles. He would voluntary come at the moment! He is 8 months old. I do this every night.

Also my Ragdoll sleeps on my bed each night and at about 6.30 am will come under the covers for a cuddle!

I have a persistent lap cat you are welcome to as I can't stand it!
