They aren't lap cats :(

Obie and Ophie are settled, growing well and seem happy. But neither of them are lap cats and it is making me sad. I KNOW I shouldn't compare them to Morph, but I miss the body on my lap (or round my neck) and I don't know how to encourage them. It seems like they have each other, so are less bothered with us. They generally lurk on the back of the sofa or curled up on a chair.
Obie comes on the bed but has a few strokes and bounces off. Ophie rolls on the floor for tummy tickles but won't stay. I just want someone to sit on me!

Someone said that Maine Coons often don't become cuddly til they are older, but Morph was always a cuddler so this is new to me.

Any suggestions? They love playing with their flying frenzy, they follow me to the loo (every damn time, and sit staring at me!) but they just don't lap sit.

Our rescue cats (litter pair girls) are gradually getting more cuddly. They are 2.5 and have been with us 18 months. I'm a bit torn as I like cuddles during the day but don't want them on our bed at night.

Medusa, Are they related? Are they neutered? Do they go outside? What toys do they have? How long have they lived with you?

Mine are sisters (now 3 yo) and super cuddly, but I have had them since they are 10 weeks old.

I use Feliway as and when they have ups and downs.

I love the image of the "loving hair washing" MrsSchadenfreude MKitten used to give my hair a bit of a trim when he was a wee thing. It's hard to say no, isn't it. because it's a bit scary when they dig their claws into your scalp

He now scratches at the duvet, demanding I let him in. (which of course I comply with.) He's trained his human nicely. Clever puss.

They are brother and sister siblings Florixora... I've had them since they were 13 weeks old, (neutered at 16 weeks). They do in theory go out now, but Ophie (girl) is very much the indoor cat, and Obie is the in-out-in-out-in-out-it's-a-bit-chilly-just-hold-the-door-open cat Grin

They have many toys though the flying frenzy is the runaway favourite.

I have an older girl Portia too, she is getting cuddlier with old age, but my previous Maine Coon was THE most affectionate cat ever.. slept with his paws round my neck at night and basically wanted to be on me all the time so I really miss it.They are sociable.. follow me around and always come to greet me, but they don't lap sit !

I don't think it's because you have two of them, I just think they are all different. My first cat was such a lap cat, always in bed with me. I had her a long long time until she passed away.

My second cat is now 16yrs old and has never, ever sat on my lap. It still makes me sad even now after all these years with her! She likes to sit next to me on the sofa but she flat out refuses to sit on my lap. She has become more chilled out in her old age but won't ever be a lap-cat.

It took three years before BigFurry sat on my lap.

Fluffycat sat on Dh's lap yesterday but gave him evils for not being me.
