Oh god I think we've been lied to

Picked up a new kitten on Wednesday evening. The woman said that he is 9 weeks old, they had only had him a week but her DD aged 1 had a severe allergic reaction hence rehoming him. He is tiny and keeps trying to suckle a fleecy blanket we bought for him. He is eating solid food well but has runny poos. He is letting us know when he needs to go but needs to be lifted into the litter tray.

He seems to enjoy being handled and is playful then sleeps for a couple of hours. We have booked him in at the vets on Tuesday for a check and jabs, we thought it was best for him to settle for a few days first.

He's very sweet - could you put something beside him for scale? From that picture it looks like he could be younger than 9 weeks, but hard to tell.

hes adorable the runny poos might be because he hasnt been wormed yet the last two fosters i had were 8 weeks old and had this after i had wormed them their poo firmed up and some kittens are still tiny at 9 weeks

Unfortunatly, the 'had them a week, dc had an allergic reaction' line is a classic mass breeder distribution line. That kitten looks way younger than 9 weeks imo.

I'd take them to the vets today for a checkup as he could be riddled with worms with that background

Aw. Could just be tiny, could be 6ish weeks?

I would take him to the vet now to get an idea of how old he is and how he's doing.

Yes, he looks younger than 9 weeks to me too and it's very usual for kittens removed from the mother too soon to suckle. Poor little thing :( I wouldn't think you'd have anything to worry about in terms of his long term health, but I'd be careful if you get another cat in future. You can get kittens from rescue centres too :)

We did try the local rescues but none of them would let ud adopt as we rent Hmm

The allergy story isn't always rubbish, we got our dog from a woman who was allergic to his saliva, I did worry about it & was looking for signs of dodgy dealings when we went to meet him but the rash on her neck, the fact we paid less than the costs of the jabs he'd already had & finally when she burst into tears when we left with him reassured me that it was kosher.

SO CUTE! He is tiny though. The vet should be able to tell you roughly how old he is. You could also weigh him? The vet weighed ours at 9 weeks and I think they were about 900g.

If you don't know where the lady got him from, you should definitely ask. Did you pay for him?

Oh and please do keep the photos coming!

Yes we did pay for him, she said she was only charging as she wanted to make sure he was going to someone who really wanted him. I will weigh him in a bit, he's just settled himself into his bed for a nap.

I got our kitten from a friends nephew he told us she was 9 weeks old, when I took her to the vet a few days later she was only 7 weeks old he had her on adult food said his vet said it was ok, he also said she had been wormed but I thought that to be highly unlikely. I was furious but she is doing fine now at 22 weeks eating her kitten food, fully litter trained even if she is a little bit evil.

I got one of mine at 6 weeks...it was a neighbour's accidental litter and that was when she was getting rid of them and I offered to take it.

Obviously 12 weeks is better, but, she was weaned and litter trained already and she was absolutely fine, well still is, lol, she's 4 now.

He looks closer to 6 weeks than 9 I'd say. His tail's still really short.

I'll get him checked out today. Glad to know he should be fine even if he's a bit younger than we thought. I'm just upset at the thought that we may G&T have bought a farmed kitten Sad

I had two kittens from a rescue which were less than 6 weeks. They were fine. I put a ticking clock in with their bedding - meant to sound like a beating heart.

The only thing I found that I think was age related was that she was really clingy, as in even if she fell asleep and I moved out of sight she'd call for me and come find me.

I say I think it was age related because after a few weeks she stopped doing it and she's not at all clingy as an adult...so I think she just decided I was her new mum and stuck close until she was bigger.

I would also say about 6 weeks. We got ours after he was found in a box with 4 others and they were about 5 weeks then. Little boys balls are noticeable from about 6/7 weeks (or so I read) so if their not there he's not 9 weeks.
