Oh god I think we've been lied to

Picked up a new kitten on Wednesday evening. The woman said that he is 9 weeks old, they had only had him a week but her DD aged 1 had a severe allergic reaction hence rehoming him. He is tiny and keeps trying to suckle a fleecy blanket we bought for him. He is eating solid food well but has runny poos. He is letting us know when he needs to go but needs to be lifted into the litter tray.

He seems to enjoy being handled and is playful then sleeps for a couple of hours. We have booked him in at the vets on Tuesday for a check and jabs, we thought it was best for him to settle for a few days first.

Oh god I think we've been lied to

I'd ring round other vets in your area to find one who can see him today. As others have said, you want a vet who sees animals when you need it anyway.

mrslaughan · 06/12/2014 09:08

any vet worth there salt will have emergency appointments...blood in Poo (esp in a baby) is an emergency!!

Gileswithachainsaw · 06/12/2014 09:27

find another vet. He needs seeing now Sad

Moln · 06/12/2014 09:29

Oh dear, hopefully you re not going to read this till later as you've found a vet but try this (assuming you're in the uk)

www.vethelpdirect.com/practices.php

I do hope he gets treatment, my kitten wasn't in great shape when found, he was seperated from his mother and abandoned young, but is very healthy now.

who did you get the kitten from? (Can't read back at moment) if it does look as if it is a case of farming I would contact th RSPCA.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 06/12/2014 10:41

Oh no, poor wee thing. I hope you are able to find a vet who will see him today.

MsIngaFewmarbles · 06/12/2014 10:44

Our vet is seeing him at the end of surgery at 12.

Oh that's good. Please let us know how it goes x

cozietoesie · 06/12/2014 10:47

Well done, MsInga. When they're little, a disorder can make them sicker more quickly so it's best to have him seen today.

Gileswithachainsaw · 06/12/2014 10:51

I hope all goes well.

u would also perhaps speak to the vet and ask if they have any leaflets or information you can take home either for future reference or to pass round and friends or family thinking of getting a kitten, of what to look for when getting a kitten. what a proper breeder would show you or say etc

timtam23 · 06/12/2014 10:55

Gosh 400g is very small indeed. Am so pleased you are getting him seen urgently today. Do let us know how things go.

ClumsyCrocheter · 06/12/2014 10:57

I agree with pp, that he needs to see a vet asap. Phone around, ask most vets have emergency appts on a sat morning. He does need to be seen.

He is bloomin gorgeous though! He does look about 6 weeks old to me, although I'm not an expert! Regarding the suckling thing....my 8 year old cat still does that on anything fluffy. I cant even put my dressing gown on without her running over to me and jumping on my chest to suckle the dressing gown!

MsIngaFewmarbles · 06/12/2014 11:25

My big girl has taken a shine to him

Awww. Is she being very gentle?

PestoStormissimos · 06/12/2014 13:05

So, how did you get on at the vets?

MsIngaFewmarbles · 06/12/2014 13:13

Hi, the vet said that he is definitely only 6-7 weeks old but is fine. He's been flead and wormed and we've booked him in for vaccinations in 2 weeks. We have some kaolin for diarrhoea for a couple of days. Even the vet said how adorable he is Smile

Moln · 06/12/2014 13:17

Oh good.

Did the vet advise on food (though sometimes vets advise only suppliers they sell!)

Hope he improves quickly - do let us know though

cozietoesie · 06/12/2014 13:53

Poor wee soul - but good news generally and well done for getting him in there. Always better to check with a professional when an animal is unwell and you don't know the cause.

(Remember not to leave the dog and the kitten alone right now. You may have encountered one of those magical partnerships but he's very small and pretty defenceless and you don't need the dog suddenly having a 'moment' and thinking that he looks about the right size for lunch.)

Best of luck and let us know how things go.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 06/12/2014 15:43

Glad it went well Smile

I'm glad you took him I think we were all worried about him.

Gileswithachainsaw · 06/12/2014 21:47

I glad he's ok Smile

now give him a squish from me

timtam23 · 06/12/2014 22:09

Glad to hear he's ok! Smile

Notmeagain1 · 07/12/2014 00:16

Ah, what a sweet little one. It does look like its a lot younger than you were told. You may need to bottle feed if its not, properly been weaned. The vet can tell you more. I bottle fed my last 2 as they were abandoned by the mother before their eyes opened. It was a nightmare. Worse than a new bore baby.

Wishing you good news at the vets. And a big welcome to your family to the new addition.

Whats its name? I dodnt read the whole thread so apologize if you have answered already.Blush

cozietoesie · 07/12/2014 09:34

How is he this morning?

Smile
MsIngaFewmarbles · 07/12/2014 10:48

He's lovely, he sneaked onto our bed last night and slept on my pillow. His name is Arthur Melchior Whiskers, can you tell the kids helped to name him?
