Oh my stars. We went to a cat rescue centre this morning expressed an interest in a pair of 6 month old cats. Got back at 2 just had a phone call they are doing the home check between 3 and 4. Trying to tidy up but the place is a mess. Aargh

Don't tidy up too much. Tidy houses are not ideal for cats, and they won't be looking at that.
Make sure you ask all the questions you want too, It's not just for them to ask you them.

I wanted to give the dog a bath because she is a bit smelly from her walk this morning. It is quick I think it's because they have had this pair for a while and say they have had no interest in them at all. They couldn't believe it when we fell in love with them. good luck - we have a ginger/tortoiseshell pair and they are beautiful - the girl is independent and sticks to her own company while the boy is friends with all the neighbours and likes to chat to people in the street

All sounds good. Have you got any reason to think there will be any problems with the HV? I assume they know there's a dog in residence?

I suspect sparkling meant (and she'll soon tell me if not) 'every single thing completely in its place and all the skirting boards washed daily' sorts of houses. It can make you wonder what the person would do if they found a pile of vomit in the middle of the best rug or hairs on that LBD.

They're not worried about mess, they want to make sure your house doesn't back onto a motorway or that you are too weird & odd :)

A friendly well loved dog who is exercised regularly shouldn't be a problem.

YY-sorry i see how that may have come across gamer. I meant more the extremely tidy showhome, cream carpets, pristine pale sofas, lots of ornaments-just so. it would make the charity wonder whether they knew what they were taking on.

Laundry on the dining table, clothes horses in the living room, piles of books, children's toys everywhere-just normal busy house stuff is to be expected. Even a dirty dog. The visitor is not going to go round every room with a white glove checking for dust.

I used to Homecheck for CPL and the only one I ever turned down lives in an immaculate house with cream carpets!!! ( not the only reason)
They want to know that you fully appreciate what cat ownership means, both positive and negative.

if they're anything like the rescue centre we got out cats from, they'll want to see how big your house is and if it's big enough try to persuade you to take more cats. We took 2 semi-feral kittens and once they saw our house and garden, they wanted us to take a couple more! We didn't.

Well she has gone. She was very nice when she started telling us how destructive cats can be we just showed her the claw marks on the sofa. She wanted to see the catflaps and the garden, check that we would be neutering and using flea and worming treatments gave us her phone number for emergencies. She said she is not allowed to say if we passed or not, that's down to the centre but that we shouldn't worry about it.
So I think that's good. I didn't even have to bribe her with chocolate biscuits

If we get the call we could have them tomorrow. I am so ridiculously excited. The house isn't right without a cat it's the first time in 28 years that we have been without one

Have you got cat supplies in already? (I know the shelter will probably give you some food and litter to introduce them gradually - but still.)

Yes we have supplies of everything except collars and will need 1 New cat basket. Also we will need to think of names but I am refusing to discuss them yet just in case. Now my dd needs to be taken to an interview so I hope I don't miss a phone call.

I only went to have a look at Sparkling Cat. She wasn't coming home with us. Oh no. Just a look then we would go home for a think.

We ended up borrowing a carrier from the Foster mum to bring her home straight away. On the way home I sat in the car with Sparkling Cat and DH dashed into the garden centre for all the supplies.

I hope they approved you.

Just had the phone call and we can pick them up tomorrow. Hurrah I can relax now. They haven't been well socialized so are quite timid the rescue say so it will be nice to get them to the point where they become demanding little devils like cats should be
