Oh my stars. We went to a cat rescue centre this morning expressed an interest in a pair of 6 month old cats. Got back at 2 just had a phone call they are doing the home check between 3 and 4. Trying to tidy up but the place is a mess. Aargh

Well done! I hope they settle in well.

Sparklingbrook · 08/11/2014 18:33

Yay! Wine

cozietoesie · 08/11/2014 19:04

Great. Smile

chockbic · 08/11/2014 19:38

They will soon come round with patience and food.

Itsfab · 08/11/2014 19:55

Hurray!

We also have a ginger boy and tortoiseshell girl that came from a rescue centre. They had also been over looked Sad and tbh they picked us. The five we showed interest in were already taken or reserved so we were allowed into the inner sanctum and taken straight to our cats. One came out straight away (now doesn't want any love unless hungry) and the other was very shy (and is now a total daddy's boy after he visited on day 5 without me and is very chatty, currently sleeping on my pillow HmmGrin) and DH was smitten in about 1/2 a second. Just remembered at first I wasn't sure I wanted them as I had set my heart on kittens and I am upset to think we might not have the complete crazy and naughty twosome we have now.

Enjoy!!

I have already started their Christmas shopping..Grin.

Aaarrrggghhh - she said the C word.

Thanks all of you. We are now arguing about names, I don't remember this level of disagreement when we named the children.

Wow, that's so fast! Smile Hope they settle in nicely.

minsmum · 09/11/2014 16:41

Well they are here but they haven't really come out of the cat box yet. He came out to eat but someone made a noise so he bolted back in. It's going to be a slow job with them. Still it will be worth it in the end. The dog had a sniff at the basket when they first came in the door but we will keep them apart until they are a bit more confident

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 09/11/2014 17:09

Oh that's normal. It may take some time for them to venture out, especially as they have each other for comfort. New sounds, new smells, all a bit scary at first.

cozietoesie · 09/11/2014 17:19

How long were they in the rescue?

minsmum · 09/11/2014 17:55

Apart from the first few weeks when they were living in someone's garden they have always been in the rescue.
We have always had rescue cats and dogs so we know they will be fine. It's exciting watching them grow in confidence isn't it

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 09/11/2014 18:01

So 5 months plus that they've been in a pen - probably without much socialization. I'm not surprised they're shy and clinging to their box - it's a good job you're patient and experienced.

Best of luck to them.

PestoStormissimos · 10/11/2014 12:27

So pleased you got them Smile

Have you decided names yet or do you need help? Grin

minsmum · 10/11/2014 16:51

The names are Richard Parker for the boy and Peach or as my ds calls her Princess Peach

OP posts:
chockbic · 10/11/2014 18:08

How are you getting on with them?

minsmum · 10/11/2014 18:36

Well they have retreated under a cupboard. He has come out to eat and she has come out for a poo but that's it really. We thought yesterday seemed a bit to good to be true and we were right.
I must not expect too much and let them move at their own pace.

OP posts:
PestoStormissimos · 12/11/2014 12:53

Nice names!

Don't panic about them feeling secure in the cupboard, our ginger rescue kitty lived under my bed for the first month & rarely ventured out. He is fine now Smile

cozietoesie · 12/11/2014 12:59

Seniorboy lived somewhere in this house (we never found out where) for the longest time after my Mum died. As long as we knew he was still alive (trays being used and ham (Blush) disappearing in the middle of the night, we just left him to it.

He came round. Smile

minsmum · 12/11/2014 13:21

I cooked chicken for them last night and because they are so greedy we were able to hand feed them. Peach was sitting on dh's lap and Richard Parker was climbing over everyone. It was fun, this morning when I put their breakfast down he was out within 30 seconds to start eating. It took her about 5 minutes.
I have been mean and told mil that when she visits on Sunday there will be no grabbing to pick them up and she will not be allowed to touch them. She loves to prove how much better she is with cats than we are and that everyone's pets love her more than them.
When I told dh he said he would have a word with her as well and if she doesn't agree with the rules she won't get to see them at all.
In fairness I love my mil dearly and this is the only way she is unreasonable

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 12/11/2014 13:29

That sounds pretty positive. (And it's a long time until Sunday anyway. Once cats cave in and bond with you, they oftentimes do it very fast in my experience.)

Well done so far.

Smile
minsmum · 14/11/2014 22:16

Well I just brought the dog into the room where they are. She just laid down and went to sleep. Both of them hid but Richard Parker sat at the side of the sofa just looking. I have taken her out again and will try again tomorrow. No big drama at all really.

OP posts:
minsmum · 29/11/2014 23:10

It will be 3 weeks tomorrow and it's going well. They now have the run of the house. They will stay happily in the same room as the dog we caught Richard Parker nose to nose with the dog both very pleased with each other. They will come on our laps to be fed, though they scamper away when we walk around they very quickly come back.
They still are very hand shy but that's not surprising. Anytime we hear a crash it's one of them going somewhere they shouldn't. They are very funny and keep us constantly amused with their antics. Heaven knows what's going to happen when we put the Christmas tree up, I suspect we will have cats instead of a star on the top

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 29/11/2014 23:22

Oh Lordy - cats and Xmas trees. I've always been lucky with my boys but some other posters have had experiences that have been........interesting.

Sounds good so far. Smile
