I will soon be getting my own house and was desperate to get a kitten but after reading a few posts on here I realise I should give a rescue a home.

Having googled my local I'm sat feeling sorry for them all! How will I stop myself taking 20 cats home!?

One more vote for a black cat Smile To be honest I would love to get another cat (although 2 is just about enough for my small flat) - very easy to become a crazy cat lady indeed

Love the photo monkey.

juneybean · 01/08/2014 22:08

Ack you all have gorgeous cats! Love how so many of us have black cats!

TCN - your photo is my fantasy existence! Every single one of your little loves is lovely.

Inarticulate due to loveliness overload! I am a regular, I forgot to name change back I've just realised.

Goes to bed muttering Lovely....lovely....Envy

We have a very handsome black and white cat called Trevor who has amazing whiskers :)

I also find it hard to say no, hence the fact that Trevor is one of seven kitties whose home I share.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 01/08/2014 23:15

TCN, what a gorgeous photo, how many do you have?
We have five at the moment and DH is adamant that is maximum capacity. Mind you, if the right cat came along I know he'd relent.

Rollypoly100 · 01/08/2014 23:22

Two beautiful orientals on the Battersea website - one is 14 and one 10. Re-homed because of a new baby. Juneybean, they come as a pair! If I could link I would. I would have them,if I didn't have Rollycat.

juneybean · 01/08/2014 23:25

Ahh I'm up north unfortunately!

What a shame. Makes me sad to think they're in this position at their age. I think adopting an oldie is the way to go. I'm sure they'll be snapped up soon.

juneybean · 01/08/2014 23:43

I know, I foolishly looked on preloved and there's a 17 year old needing a new home but I just can't take one until I get my new house (don't want to confuse an already elderly cat!)

Rollypoly100 · 01/08/2014 23:54

I know what you mean. I saw Rollycat on a Cats in Crisis website about four months before I moved house. Didn't want to have the chaos of a house move with a new cat. But I visited him every Sunday till he came to us.

valrhona · 02/08/2014 05:13

I went along to a cat rescue having fallen in love on-line with a pic of a gorgeous long-haired tabby boy.

I came home with a skinny, scruffy medium hair black girl (who is now gorgeous!) AND a shy tortie girl (with THE most beautiful eyes ever)

I love them both so much. I huge pleasure from just watching them sunbathe lazily on the grass and relaxing. The same two mites that spent most of their first few weeks with us camped out behind the freezer!!

I had absolutely intended on adopting a black and white kitty, but instead fell in love with this little prima donna nearly two years ago.

Would love love love another one, but given we now also have a 5 months old puppy and our first baby on the way, I think we have enough on our hands!!

Ahh stop me adopting the entire rescue centre.
Bedofwool · 02/08/2014 09:13

The Daily Fail has an article about blacks cats in shelters never getting a home...
it's not fur

thecatneuterer · 02/08/2014 12:31

bustarhymes and jumpedup. Sorry to disappoint but that isn't in fact a photo of my house. It's a random photo off t'interweb. I do of course have twice as many cats as that (I think it's 19 at the moment but I'm not exactly sure) but they aren't obliging enough to all pose together at the same time for photos.

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/08/2014 13:27

Tortie girls eyes are stunninh, like two aquamarines looking at you.

valrhona · 02/08/2014 15:19

Yes fluffy - they are particularly jewel-like aren't they
Grin

The poor thing was sitting quietly in a corner with her head down and to be honest, it was dh that noticed her. He went over to her and said hello and picked her up. She was obviously a little nervous but stayed calm. Then she looked at me, and that was that.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 02/08/2014 16:26

TheCatNeuterer19!
I shall be able to tell DH that I am positively restrained with just 5

Mind you, I knew I'd married the right man when I came home once to find that instead of the one cat I'd agreed to take on from the local rescue (being dropped off at our house) the were four.
DHs reasoning was that three were siblings so he didn't want to separate them, and then he couldn't let them take back one on its own.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 02/08/2014 16:29

Vairhona I've just got my first tortie . She's painfully shy, but I hope she'll become bolder. She is just such a beauty I am captivated by her looks.

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/08/2014 18:48

It would have been mean to send one back to a pen. Gold star for your dh there.

Queenofknickers · 02/08/2014 19:03

Another vote for black and black and white cats - so overlooked but so wonderful. Totally agree that your cat will pick you at the rescue centre - we went to look at some kittens, went in next room and met our cats and fell in love!

valrhona · 03/08/2014 11:10

pantryboy My tortie Margot is a really very gentle cat. She not so shy any more, but she is somewhat aloof. She will come and sit with us, but never for very long. She will come over and nose-bump with me, purr, and sit for a while and then wander off. She is very fond of my dd though (13). Often sleeps with her and cuddles her. Smile

patienceisvirtuous · 03/08/2014 11:22

Here are my two b&w rescues. Totally adorable.

Ahh stop me adopting the entire rescue centre.

Ohh look at them washing each other! So adorable Grin

I have a black one like yours, OP.

Black cats are the least popular so good way to narrow down candidates.
