Fleas, please help

Got our kitten 5 weeks ago, had him for 2 weeks before we realised he had fleas.
Got stuff from vet that went on his neck, meant to kill fleas.
Sprayed house with indorex, washed everything, hoovered daily.
Have been nit combing the cat, and still finding a flea alive & well every couple of days, either on him or his bedding.

Deep cleaned house & sprayed everything again at weekend and still I have found a flea on him.

Wtf am I going to do, I am struggling to cope with it, it seems to have triggered some anxiety in me, I feel like my whole body is crawling.
Can anyone advise me what else to do, I'm really struggling.

What stuff (presumably a spot on) did the vet give you, Fanny - do you remember the name or still have some packaging? (Frontline, for example, is proving ineffective in some/many areas seemingly because the fleas are becoming immune to it.)

And how old is the kitten and how long ago was he treated?

Thanks so much for replying, I'm not 100% sure what the vet gave me as was in a generic packaging. They said if would kill fleas on him & just to let him go about the house so other fleas would go on him, bite him & die

Kitten is 13 weeks ish now I think, the spray didn't seen to work either.
I sprayed it all over his blanket then still found a live flea the next morning.

I'm back at vet in morning for his second set of jabs.

I feel sick over this, been in tears today.

2 weeks ago he got the spot on treatment.

I use Advantage flea treatment (once a month on the back of his neck) on my cat and he's never had fleas.

He is an older cat so not sure if it's suitable for kittens or they may had a kitten version available

I've written two long posts and lost both of them so I'm going to go and have a coffee and let the laptop recover its equanimity before attempting a third. Don't worry though.

There's a long term injection for fleas, I forget the name but the vet will know.

It doesn't kill the flea but it stops them breeding so the house doesn't get infested.

In the meantime ask for Broadline from the vet for the cat, buy as much indorex as you can afford and vacuum daily. Put a cheap flea collar in the vacuum bag.

I don't think my house is louping, none of us have been bitten, and not seen any, only on cat & his bedding.

I can't sit easy, any wee bit of fluff or crumb I see I'm checking it out.

I've myself ripped from scratching, keep thinking things are crawling on me.

I need to get a grip or I'm heading for some sort of anxiety induced breakdown, someone give me a slap.

I would honestly be thinking of rehoming but the kids would never forgive me.

Was told by a pest controller that the life cycle of a flea is six weeks, so you have to wait it out.

When we got my girl she was running with fleas. Explained why she was so quiet. Soon perked up though to give us some sleepless nights.

Vet gave me eliminall?
Is there something better I can order before I give it to the cat?

Eliminall is fipronil, the same as frontline, which has proved to be ineffective in some cases. There is a new treatment called Activyl that treats the environment as well as the animal, so no need for additional spraying and should do the job for you.

Have put the frontline in him so will get the other one for a few weeks time.
No sign of fleas the last few days, cat getting combed with nit comb twice a day & I'm hoovering every day.

We use advantage, order online its £10 for 4 uses. Half the price of pet shops. Advocate is similar but is a wormer too. Frontline doesn't work anymore here either.

My advice would be get advantage spot on, stop stressing, don't forget to re apply every month. But summer is the worst time for fleas

Apologies for the hijack - Has anyone managed to buy any Advantage online recently? I think it may be impacted by the neonicotinoid insecticide ban and seems to be out of stock everywhere, I've just rung the vet and they charge £25

Not even a week since putting the frontline on and there are still bastard fleas & cat is scratching again.

Wtf am I going to do, I can't live like this, it's beyond a joke now.

We got a tablet from the vets for our cats and it seems to be working really well - no fleas spotted after 3 weeks:). Summer really is the worst time for them so you're bound to get a couple but the cat is treated they'll soon die. As someone said above the life cycle of a flea is 6 weeks so if you keep going with the treatment you'll eventually get them all.

Ask your vet about Comfortis flea tablets, we use them for our dogs but they are available for cats too.I think they need to be over 14 weeks old to have one applied? but they work brilliantly and have the fastest speed of kill,with a lot of spot ons fleas can take hours to die so you still see live fleas,which can still lay eggs.

Your kitty is beyond adorable! Look, I know it's ghastly but you'll just have to sit it out till the flea cycle works its way through and they all die.

Which they will, honest. But I really sympathise in the meantime.

Tbf though frontlines not very effective, is he too young for the flea injection? It doesn't kill them but it stops them breeding so the house doesn't get infested.

Your vet seems to a bit behind the times, frontlines been getting less effective for years.

The injections called program, I've just googled it. It says the dose can be adjusted for kittens.

I bet Broadline would sort him out, it's new on the market.
