my cat has lost his miaow

I've posted before about his always squitty poos. But now I'm a bit concerned about him. I am planning vet later btw but I'm working until two.
He is a proper ginger bastard cat, usually miaows incessantly and likes his food.
Today he is looking like he is miaowing a bit but hardly any noise comes out. He has drool on the rt side of his mouth and not eating muchSad even though he has fish flavour Iams atm which is a favourite.

I suspect he has a dental problem but would that make him less noisy too? He's about 15Sad

He's just a bit flat generally, sitting by the cat flap looking out instead of out adventuring or trying to murder us on the stairs like he usually does.

I've given him some tinned fish and he's eaten a bit after I mashed it up but it would normally be wolfed in a flash.

My mil's cat lost her meow, turned out to be a thyroid problem iirc. Think a visit to the vet is in order.

yy vet planned for the pm. I haven't got the car til later and I'm working til two.

I just feel like I might be coming home with an empty cat carrier tbhSad

Mil's cat just had medication to deal with the thyroid problem. You may be coming home to the reality of wrestling a daily tablet into a proper ginger bastard!

He was a free gift with the house when I bought itSad
previous owner didn't take him with the (not arranged, I also had bailiffs and bills galore for them) and he was a street fighting ginger Tom then that the vet guessed was around 2 or 3. So I got him neutered and told the Rspca I would foster him until a cattery place came up.
12 years ago.
He's furniture now, obvs.

Foreign body would be really high on the list not eating, drooling and list miaow. In fast majority if cases it is a piece of grass.

Vet in about an hour - they wanted him in sooner but I can't go til DH is back. I'll update - thanks everyone.

On RSPCA animal rescue it's normally a tic causing a loss of noise in a cat, and can be fatal.. Hope he's okay!!

Grin I still have a cat. and he has eaten some food.

just very bad teeth.

He has had antibiotic and anti inflammatory today and he's going back Monday morning for lots of teeth out under GA after pre op bloods.

very relieved and the injection seems to have made him more comfortable

he's still quiet volume wise but mithering for more food in his usual ginger bastard fashion now. With his arse precariously close to the draining board.

Poor lad. Bad teeth make them feel absolutely rotten and can actually be quite dangerous to their systems. (The poisons from abscesses etc.) I know cats are good at covering up but think how you feel with a bad toothache!

No I bought him those fancy little trays of wet food after the a vet trip. A fishy selection box in jelly. I left him eating as second one as I came up to bed.

He'll be really hungry after not eating because his mouth was sore.

Best of luck to him on Monday. (Seniorboy had a major GA dental when he was 16 - so a little older than your boy - and came through just fine.)

Oh Dear - even Seniorboy was left with 5 so his must have been pretty darned ropey. He'll manage fine without them although it will be wet food from now on I assume.

One of my cats had all of her teeth out bar one - the vet left it to "preserve her dignity". It gave her a lopsided smile. She still managed to suck up her Whiskas and lived to a ripe old age - sixteen and a half as I recall. Hope your old boy is OK after his trip to the vet. He'll be expecting lots of tasty (soft) treats.
