My Cat has just had kittens , she had the first at 6pm .
I'm just wondering how long I should give her after the first til the last ?
I have left her alone for now as she was eating the after birth

She was pregnant when I got her & yes I will be getting her neutered

Hi OP, it's difficult to say really! Could be several hours until she's finished completely, but I would expect to see not much more than an hour between kittens. Do you have any idea how many she's expecting?

Lonecatwithkitten · 22/11/2013 19:04

The rules are she should not strain (push) for more than 2 hours, a mid-greenish discharge is normal, black, dark green or fresh blood are not normal.
So if she strains or more than two hours or has any of the abnormal discharges you should call the vet immediately. Do you have the out of hours number? And do you know where you would need to go?

Lonecatwithkitten · 22/11/2013 19:06

Flank hadn't posted when I had. In case you haven't meet me before I'm a vet. The instructions I have given you are my professional advice based on more years of experience than I am prepared to reveal.
Up to two hours of straining can be normal. There can be longer gaps between kittens, it is the straining time that is important.

My apologies Lone, I was more thinking of the average expectation than the safe limit. Sorry OP, please don't worry if she's more than an hour, I just meant to get across that they don't pop out one after the other apart from my last litter where two came out tangled together

How is she getting on?

Oodyouthinkyouare · 22/11/2013 19:29

Thanks for the replies Smile

Lonecat Yes I have spoke/seen you about before , I have just had a much needed name change

Flank Thankyou

She seems to have stopped now and is feeding all three kittens & they are all screeching and moving .
I didn't know how many she was having though she was extremely big , the kittens are quite big as well

X post! Wow hasn't she done well! 3 in an hour and a half! Do you know if it's her first litter? I'd be surprised if it is. She sounds like she has it all in hand Smile

Oodyouthinkyouare · 22/11/2013 19:38

No its not her first litter but its definitely her last Smile

cozietoesie · 22/11/2013 21:15

Sounds a bit like the Mom before last in the Critter Room, Ood. She had two pure ginger legs and the rest was dark/mixed. The eggs sort of got mixed up, I think. (There's a specific name for it but I forget. Someone else may remember.)

cozietoesie · 22/11/2013 21:28

Mosaic/chimeric cats. (I remembered.)

Oodyouthinkyouare · 22/11/2013 21:38

I promise ill stick pics on at some point tonight

Ooh. I so want a kitten. But DH hates cats and not sure what the jrt would think.

cozietoesie · 22/11/2013 23:03

Poor lass - she'll be hungry, thirsty and very very tired. And she's got a few rough weeks ahead of her still. Good on her, anyway.

chickydoo · 22/11/2013 23:05

Well done to all Wine how lovely

Oodyouthinkyouare · 22/11/2013 23:23

She won't let me get any pictures right now so will try again in the morning Smile

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 22/11/2013 23:30

That's best. She'll want to put her best face forward.

Smile

I'm assuming she looks as if she's finished?

Oodyouthinkyouare · 23/11/2013 00:25

Yeah she has finished thank god

She has had a wander about , though she yowled at me to sit with them & then wandered off Grin
