Waiting for the vet to ring...

Beloved moggy has spent the night at the vets, trouble with her liver, yesterday it wasn't looking good.

She was doing all her usual stuff up until Friday, only noticeable symptom has been an increasing finickiness about food (but she was still jumping up on the bed and units and being her usual self) and a slight cough. I only bumped up her appointment from Thursday because she is such skinny minnie anyway and couldn't afford to lose anymore weight (at her last check up vet wasn't concerned).

Vet was supposed to ring at 9.30 and hasn't. I'm going to ring at 10, can't wait any longer.

Checking in to wish you a message soon and hoping that your cat is making an improvement.
I feel for you.

The vet finally rang at 11.33, 7 minutes before I had to be out the door.

It's good news, despite the waffle, gloom, doom, lack of prognosis and suggested treatment from vet #2 yesterday FiveMoggy is getting better!

The vet that finally rang back was brilliant, full of information and advice. FiveMoggy is much more alert, eating, drinking, purring and peeing and we can take her home tonight. She will need meds from now on and if she will eat a special tinned food for liver impaired cats that's great, but if she wont the important thing is that she keeps eating (I see prawns in her future).

We could do more tests to discover exactly what is going on but super vet #3 thinks this is pointless as at FiveMoggy's age we should be thinking about quality of life rather than testing for things that would require treatment or operations that would probably kill her anyway. The down side is that is that she can't give any clue as to life expectancy, but who cares, this cat is going to get spoiled!

I have expressed my anger about the wait (politely and not personally against super vet #3), she apologised instead of making excuses and therefore gets extra super points for that.

I will still, once we have got FiveMoggy home, write a letter of complaint to the practice manager. The fact they had an emergency is a valid excuse for them not to ring, but it's still their problem and not mine. Something someone said to me on a training course stuck, it might not be their fault, but it is their responsibility and as I was sitting here expecting the call to end in me arranging a time to have FiveMoggy put to sleep it led to a pretty lousy morning.

Any way, bloody good news and here is some Wine Cake Brew and Thanks to thank you all for sticking with me and giving me somewhere to vent.

If anyone is interested there is a picture of FiveMoggy on my profile impersonating a piece of fruit.

Hello all, just to let you know FiveMoggy is home with anti-biotics, anti-emetics and pain killers, she's a bit wobbly, tiny bit wheezy but promptly jumped up on the sofa and sat there purring.

She's had a belly full of cod and prawns and is zonked out on her old cushion (picture on my profile).

Thanks again everyone and you're right, she's lovely.

How did FiveMoggy get on overnight?

DidoTheDodo · 26/09/2013 13:37

Excellent updates. How is FiveMoggy today?

FiveExclamations · 26/09/2013 14:08

Hi Cozie and Dido FiveMoggy had a good night, eating well, been out to do the necessary and managed to jump over a baby gate (put there to keep the dog out of the living areas during the night) and onto our bed where she slept all night.

So far so good Smile

Am so glad to hear you have FiveMoggy home with you! It sounds as though they need a review of their practices if they can't cope with what might be best described as a Routine Emergency (ie an urgent case but not a major incident) & are struggling with communicating efficiently.

I hope that you get lots of time to spoil FiveMoggy absolutely rotten & that any future interactions with the vets are much less stressful for you Flowers Cake

leylandii · 27/09/2013 09:26

Brilliant, welcome home FiveMoggy Smile

FiveExclamations · 16/11/2013 15:01

Hello everyone who held my hand while I was fretting over FiveMoggy.

She came home and had a pretty good six weeks with us, up and down, but mostly up. A bit distant and disgusted when we gave her her meds

Last night she started to wobble and guzzle water and this morning we have had her put to sleep, I was able to cuddle her for most of the morning and while it was done and she actually purred properly for the first time in ages.

Thanks again everyone.

Glad that she got the extra weeks with you all - although sad that today finally came.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/11/2013 17:53

I'm so sorry, it's a horrible situation to experience.

FiveExclamations · 16/11/2013 18:48

Thanks Cozie and Fluffy.
