Waiting for the vet to ring...

Beloved moggy has spent the night at the vets, trouble with her liver, yesterday it wasn't looking good.

She was doing all her usual stuff up until Friday, only noticeable symptom has been an increasing finickiness about food (but she was still jumping up on the bed and units and being her usual self) and a slight cough. I only bumped up her appointment from Thursday because she is such skinny minnie anyway and couldn't afford to lose anymore weight (at her last check up vet wasn't concerned).

Vet was supposed to ring at 9.30 and hasn't. I'm going to ring at 10, can't wait any longer.

Just phoned the vets, no vet available to talk to me and they don't know when they will be free to ring or whether I will be able to visit this morning.

Haven't lost my temper yet.

Had a few deep breaths, sure they are very busy, I have a list of questions prepped for the vet.

You keep your temper admirably, Right. In your situation, I'd have been expecting a call from a surgery as soon as I was up and doing.

Is this the only vet in your area?

FiveExclamations · 25/09/2013 09:10

Well, I nearly put stress on the yet because it was a close run thing.

Yes, there is another vet in the same town (we live a few miles outside) this was the vet who mucked our dog around and then refused to treat our chicken who was bleeding profusely, hence the change to this one.

I will, just and I mean just extend this lot a bit of patience, say up to 10am.

If necessary I do icily polite anger very well.

I'm guessing you're thinking about moving our cat to another vet, at this point that would mean a journey of about 8 miles. I'm not saying no, but it would be a last resort because of the stress it's likely cause (bringing her home is one thing, transferring her to another and completely strange vets is another).

Any other suggestions Cozie?

Cozie worried that sounded sarcastic, was genuinely asking for other suggestions as there will certainly be things I haven't thought of. Thanks

Sorry - that should have said Five. I'm not sufficiently caffeinated.

I think I'd probably keep her with this vet given the circumstances but I would not be best pleased about all this and would be storing up 'words'. That's just me though. I know that my current vet practice would have been on the phone at break of day if Seniorboy had been with them overnight.

Your lot sound like a right shower - please excuse me for that.

cozietoesie · 25/09/2013 09:16

No, No. You didn't sound sarcastic so much as exasperated.

FiveExclamations · 25/09/2013 09:26

No excuse necessary cozie I appreciate the support. And I do have words storing up.

OP posts:
FiveExclamations · 25/09/2013 10:09

Still waiting. The first words out of the vets mouth better be "I'm so sorry, it's been bedlam..."

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 25/09/2013 10:13

Hah!

FiveExclamations · 25/09/2013 10:15

Stampede of elephants, herds of majestic wildebeast sweeping majestically through reception, vets knee deep in poo...

FFS will ring at 10.30.

leylandii · 25/09/2013 10:17

Just checking in. A bit bloody off of the vet not to return your call immediately, especially as this is a very upsetting situation. If she is to come home then you want as much time with her as possible. Still crossing everything for you and mog x

cozietoesie · 25/09/2013 10:19

For some reason which I don't know, Wednesday's are often routine surgery days in vet practices. Maybe they're all suited up and a-doing or something if that's the case at yours.

(Doesn't excuse general practice inattention to you and your girl though - I'm just grabbing at straws on their behalf.)

FiveExclamations · 25/09/2013 10:24

Now you mention it I think our youngest cat and our dog had their surgery on a Wednesday, or it could be cross wires and they're waiting for me to ring, or, or, or

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 25/09/2013 10:26

Ring them.

To be quite quite cynical, you're paying for this after all.

LaundryFairy · 25/09/2013 10:32

I'm with Cozzie on this one - this isn't the NHS. You are a customer. They can ruddy-well take your calls!

FiveExclamations · 25/09/2013 10:34

Rang, a vet is just finishing a consultation and will ring me in the next 15 minutes, apparently a cat came in with fractures and they only have two vets on this morning.

Valid excuse, very apologetic, but still, deep breaths.

OP posts:
FiveExclamations · 25/09/2013 10:54

No call, am giving them until 11 as I will have to leave for work at 11.40 latest and am factoring in enough time to have a damn good cry.

OP posts:
Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 25/09/2013 11:01

Oh how awful :( I hope your cat pulls through. She's so lucky to have owners who love her so much, she must be such a happy content cat.

Come on kitty, fight back x

FiveExclamations · 25/09/2013 11:02

Rang again at 11, she (the vet) is just finishing off and will ring me back.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 25/09/2013 11:03

Ho Hum.

FiveExclamations · 25/09/2013 11:05

Exactly Cozie

Am not saying more at the moment because mumsnet would propably go up in flames.

OP posts:
Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 25/09/2013 11:17

How hard is it to spend five mins talking to u :(

FiveExclamations · 25/09/2013 11:32

Have just rang them back again.

Receptionist has gone to chase vet.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 25/09/2013 11:35
