hand holding please - cat lost

I am hoping that this is the most ridiculous thread I've posted, and that my cat is curled in a ball somewhere in the house. I'd take any feelings of foolishness.

This morning, DH fed all 3 of our cats. 2 are housecats, the other goes out. Outside cat went out, other 2 went upstairs.

Sometime between then and me getting up this morning, we have lost one of the housecats. She could be curled up somewhere in the house, but I've looked everywhere for her. She's an oriental, so she's usually in our faces (or on our beds). If she got out, it could have only been when DH left (which is unlikely, given that we check thoroughly each time before opening the door) or out of DS1's window, which is unlikely as it's one of those small thin ones at the top of the window, and it's an upper storey window, so she would have had to have been very confident. She's never tried it before.

She's neutered and has a collar on. I've shut all the doors upstairs so thast if she's hiding somewhere she has to yell to be let out. I've kept the outside cat out, as she loves him, so hopefully she will go to him. I've walked around the block, checked in the garden, but there is nothing. No sign anywhere. I'm beyond worried, feel sick. Our other housecat is moping around (but that could also be because he can't sleep on the beds as I've shut the doors) I've reported her missing to the vet.

I'm hoping so much that I'm being stupid and she's somewhere obvious. But I'm so, so worried.

Of course you are - no shame in that.

But remember - cats can get in the weirdest places. I'd be ashamed to have to relate the list of where I've found my cats at times. (Orientals usually go to bed though so have a look, later, in places where there's warmth and softness.)

Odds are that she'll come out when she's hungry. When is the next meal?

cozietoesie · 02/07/2013 10:42

PS - try the linen cupboard if you have one of those. Especially if it's warm.

MimsyBorogroves · 02/07/2013 10:45

Beds have been stripped, cupboards checked, linen checked.

Offered them all an extra meal with much bashing of bows (she's a gannet and will eat like a dog). She's normally around the baby at lunchtime so I'm crossing everything I hear a frustrated miaow in the next couple of hours. Sad

Good luck - let us know when she turns up.

VelvetStrider · 02/07/2013 10:47

Think like a cat - crawl round the house on your hands and knees, look for any warm snuggly places - tumble dryer, pile of clean washing, under the duvet etc. Could she have got shut in a cupboard (found my cat hiding behind the baking ingredients in the store cupboard once - it had a magnetic lock to keep the kids out so she couldn't open the door). Also look high up, on top of wardrobes etc.

Hope you find her soon.

cozietoesie · 02/07/2013 10:48

PS - When he came to this house, Seniorboy disappeared for four or five nights and the only way people knew he was alive was because taste treats of ham kept disappearing from the kitchen table. (That was before I had trained him to avoid surfaces.)

It's a roomy house but we never did find out where he had been hiding.

cozietoesie · 02/07/2013 15:50

Did she turn up, Mimsy?

thecatneuterer · 02/07/2013 17:12

I once found one of my in the tumble drier - and the door was closed - it's still a mystery. Also on top of the kitchen cupboards. I can't count the times I've been convinced that a cat is missing even though all doors and windows were closed, and then a few hours later it just saunters past me. I'm sure she'll just appear very soon.

Just a thought - do you have a loft and a loft ladder? Has it been down at all recently? One of my cats decided to climb the loft ladder a while ago. Lucky I saw him or he might have been shut up there for a long time.

MimsyBorogroves · 02/07/2013 20:22

She's still missing.

She was in the garden earlier (so has escaped) but was too scared for me to get her and now she's disappeared again. I "found" her by calling her and she was miaowing back at me, but now there's nothing.

Putting up lost signs, but it's raining tonight.

So scared that we won't get her back.

cozietoesie · 02/07/2013 20:32

Goodness - how did she get out? (I thought you had judged it was nigh on impossible?) Is she chipped, Mimsy?

I'd get all the other cats in, shut them up inside with tray, and leave the back door open with the lights on. Calling every so often.

You'll have a long night - I know what it's like. Sad

MimsyBorogroves · 02/07/2013 20:47

Yes, she's chipped.

She either slipped past DH or went out of DS's window - both are so, so unlikely though that it's impossible to guess which it was.

I need her home. DS needs her home. She is his teddybear.

The rain is probably impeding her sense of smell (and hearing) to get back and she'll likely anyway be all of a dither if she's a housecat outside for the first time. Are you doing walks round the streets?

cozietoesie · 02/07/2013 20:59

There will likely be someone around on this board quite late if you need to talk by the way. We've many of us been where you are.

Oh fingers x'd

TooTabooToBoo · 02/07/2013 21:36

she will come back I assure you.

I was posting similar a month or so again, convinced Evil Cat was lost forever, she was gone 3 days and just as I'd given up she came pelting in the house all bristley and hungry, slight limp but fine otherwise.

She scared herself, she is now my Evil shadow Grin

Are you on Facebook? If so search for local lost/found pet pages, post on there with a picture - you may get some reply this evening/tomorrow morning.

Hope she's home soon

TooTabooToBoo · 02/07/2013 21:37

*what cosie says about the rain - it was hammering down during Evil Cat's trip, she came back when the rain stopped. May have been a coincidence but she hates the rain with a passion

cozietoesie · 03/07/2013 08:22

Any joy, Mimsy ?

DoingStuffForHarriet · 03/07/2013 12:12

Is she home yet Mimsy?
Fingers crossed.

MimsyBorogroves · 03/07/2013 12:14

Thank you all.

We got a call late last night from a lovely, wonderful lady whose husband had gone out with an infrared camera and found her for us. She wasn't far off at all but must have been too hungry/tired/scared to miaow back when we were calling her last night.

We got her home and other than smelling like peat and a small sore under her nose she is perfect. Wolfed down her tea at a scary rate. We ended up waking DS1 in the middle of the night to tell him she was home as he had been so worried, and he'd had night terrors.

All windows are locked open on slight latches now. We still can't understand if she did get out of a window or through the door, but we are completely on our guard now.

Thank you so much for your kind words Smile

Oh I'm so pleased for you all.

cozietoesie · 03/07/2013 12:20

A bunch of flowers or something is going to the lovely couple?

DoingStuffForHarriet · 03/07/2013 13:00

Hooray! That's wonderful news Mimsy . I bet the naughty girl is being spoilt rotten now. Let's hope that she's learnt a lesson and won't do it again.

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/07/2013 13:02

Well that is good news. What on earth do you buy an infra red camera from? Sounds useful to me.
