Doesn't it solve all your problems when they lie by your side purring? :) I love listening to my cats purr.

That's right. Apparently it also lowers your blood pressure, helps you recover from illnesses sooner and gives you a longer life (compared to non-cat owners).

blackbirdatglanmore · 11/06/2013 21:47

Except she. You can't get to sleep because they are purring so loudly in your ear! Grin

iPad fail - 'except when' :)

I love it - but if I had to vote, I'd go for the snuffling and squeaky groaning when they're asleep and dreaming. A cat dreaming on you is such a wonderful demonstration of complete confidence.

Salbertina · 11/06/2013 21:49

Grin Wish dogs could purr also, real design fault!

blackbirdatglanmore · 11/06/2013 21:53

My ginger boy snores, I love it!

I find it amazing how each cat has it's individual purrs!

blondieminx · 11/06/2013 21:58

I love it when my cat purrs EXTRA loudly at me if I'm poorly, as I'd she's trying to make me better with her noisy purrs, so cute!

Madratlady · 11/06/2013 22:01

Madcat1 is a really loud purrer, I love going to sleep with her purring on the bed. And she purrs at everything :)

Madcat2 has never really got the hang of it though he is super cuddly.

deliasmithy · 11/06/2013 22:02

Love purring. If they are asleep on or near me I love re-starting the purr by stroking them in the way they like.
One of mine has a lovely purr that is like chocolate, a velvety sound that is not too loud and gentle.

Another one sounds like a tractor. My tom kitten does that half miaow/purr noise and squeaks as he goes about his business as if he has a lot to say.

blackbirdatglanmore · 11/06/2013 22:13

Ha yes, I call that the 'purrow'!

I do love falling asleep listening to a cat purr.

Yes! Was feeling a bit rubbish last night and my cat curled up on my chest, purred - and then Eskimo kissed me on the nose.

PollyPlummer · 11/06/2013 22:16

Aw yes I love listening to my dcat purr, she does a really quick and high pitched one. She wakes us up with it when she climbs in to bed with us in the early hours.

She snores too, I love the cat snores almost as much as her purr.

PollyPlummer · 11/06/2013 22:17

Grin I was just thinking - where is she I want to hear her purr and she waltzed in purring Smile

deliasmithy · 14/06/2013 10:07

Yes cats snoring is so darn cute.

I was awoken this morning by Dh launching boy kitten onto my face. He said he was moping downstairs and squeaking for his mummy.

He did immediately start purring loudly, dough punched my arms and neck and boobs to smithereens and then settlee down in my armpit with paws across my face. We snoozed for a few minutes to the sound of his purr.

marzipanned · 14/06/2013 14:31

thecatneuterer supposedly cats can heal their own injuries with their purring because of the frequency, I assume that's why it has a positive impact on human health too?

Am very newly pregnant at the moment and feel so happy when my big boy sits on my tum purring, I'm convinced it's doing the tiny embryo inside good Blush

msrisotto · 14/06/2013 14:35

The first time my DH heard my childhood cat purr, he asked if it had a cold or something! Weirdo didn't know what purring sounded like!

I particularly the half purr half meow 'trill' that my cat does. It sounds very happy :)

That's adorable, I bet it is doing the baby good. How sweet.

I loved my boy's snore, I read somewhere that cats only snore in very deep sleep when they feel safe so that always made me feel happy for him. New girl has a very sweet chirp and can be very vocal at times.

sashh · 15/06/2013 07:18

Charlie could have purred at international championships. If you got his neck in the right place (and he would move your fingers with his paw to get you there) he would purr with the purr getting louder and louder and ending up in a 'crilllllll' and then start again.

My current owner has a very quiet purr but it suits her as she is not much bigger than a kitten.

GingerPCatt · 15/06/2013 07:58

My Ginger Pudding snores so loudly I sometimes have to give him a nudge since he's keeping me awake.

SuperiorCat · 15/06/2013 08:08

Lovely thread. Our gets so happy she dribbles loads when she purrs Grin

bootsycollins · 15/06/2013 08:14

marzipanned that's lovely Flowers

bootsycollins · 15/06/2013 08:20

I remember when I first ever met a snoring cat, I was 14 and babysitting in a house where they had 3 cats. They had an old grey Persian boy who snored like a juggernaut, his lovely ears looked and felt like soft leather because all the fur had been loved off, he spent most of his time curled up and snoring behind an armchair.

Sometimes our boy snores when he's daydreaming Grin

AwkwardSquad · 15/06/2013 08:42

My rescue cat doesn't purr very much so it's especially nice when she does! I thought she wasn't purring at all for quite a while until I rested my head on her side while I was stroking her, and she was purring silently.

TataClaire · 15/06/2013 09:10

I love it when my boy purrs and looks so content. Though when I moved in with my partner he'd literally had no contact with cats before. When I introduced them and George started purring loudly my partner looking very alarmed said 'what's he doing?!' I said purring! He blurted out 'make it stop!' errr it doesnt really work like that....hahaha.....turns out he's a bit frightened of the large doughball that is George, bless!
