How big can a normal moggie get?

We have 3 cats, 1 of them is a rescue cat that we got as an 11 week old kitten, I always thought he was regular cat size until we got the other 2.

The smallest of my cats had to go to the vet the other day and she was commenting on how big he was, now, the biggest of my cats (rescue) is at least twice the size of him, he is massive. We have often had people coming in to the house and gasping at his size. Blush

So, seeing as we don't actually know much about where he came from, could someone tell me how big a normal moggie would grow?

Last time I weighed him he was just under 2 stone, he isn't fat though but tall and long.

Just curious. :)

Do you live in Essex? Because I hear they can get pretty big round there Grin

Our cat is huge too think the last time he was weighed he was about 27lbs. The vet used to call everyone in to have a look at the size of him, he's not fat either just tall and very long, he has huge paws as well. We had 2 other cats who died and he was like half a cat taller and longer than them.

Sweet That's the same with him! I always find the attention he gets strange, my neighbour got her adult DD to come down just to see how big he was!

The thing is, I have no clue what his parents were like, I know they came from a house where there was loads of litters and were being fed spaghetti and milk but no more than that. :( His face doesn't look the same either. Don't really know how to explain it but everyone says he has a face like a teddy bear.

One of the cats I fostered was huge. His sister was normal sized and she'd curl up and he would curl up round her.

The biggest non-fat normal moggy I have seen is 6Kg above this they are fat! Maine Coons can be normal weight up to 9Kg.

He sounds a bit like DH's old cat - he was huge too (the cat not DH) with a teddy-like face. People often used to comment on how huge was - not fat, properly proportioned, but much bigger then the average cat. He was a lovely cat though, really laid back and gentle.

Im not sure about moggies, but it is possible for domestic cats to get very big. My teddy bear faced boy ragdoll is not fat and 22 pounds.... I love big kitties. Lucky you!

Lonecat Trust me, if Skrinkle was 6kg he would be skinny and too thin, he's definitely in proportion.

CatKitson He's a lovely big thing and very fluffy, I love him to bits. :o

Saskia He's like that too, very laid back and a bit of a fearty! I have always loved how different his face is, he just looks so different to the other 2!

Was just curious as to how big they can get, before I got him I had no experience with cats and always thought he was teeny. Confused

Tabula I had never had a cat before, only a dog who was a jack russel mix and the size of the cat.... Blush The one the vet said was big is actually only about 10lbs.

Fluffy I will get a decent picture of him tomorrow. :o

Natasha He hardly eats anything as it is and none of them get treats and he is out all day running around. I think it would be pretty impossible for him to lose weight.

Wow!!! That's a mega-mog. Probably a cat god round your way? Ours is 2kg and would hide under the sofa if she encountered yours...

Mind you if you consider the variation in dog sizes, that sort of differential is nothing?

See, that's what I was thinking too, about the difference in sizes of dog, surely you must get loads of massive cats too?

The MW I had visiting after I had DS ran back out of my house from the living room after seeing him! That definitely cheered me up, it was hilarious. :o

Sounds like you have a Maine Coon - my boy is just under 2 stones and still growing (not fat at all eigher)

The cat over the road from us is MASSIVE and we have large cats ie 6kgs and they dwarf them!!!

He still hunts and catches daily, you don't argue with him when he wants to sit on your lap!

He doesn't look at all like a Maine Coon (he's not fluffy enough, fluffy but not really fluffy) and I doubt someone breeding them would have treated a pedigree so badly? That's why I have always assumed he's just a normal wee moggie. :) He seems about the same size though.

RandomMess Luckily mines hasn't learned to hunt and if he has he hasn't brought anything back!

Fat cat over the road (he isn't fat he is just huge) is a tabby moggie thing - both parents were semi feral farm land cats...

Not weighed our cat for a long time but we do get lots of comments about his size. I guess he is a little bigger than average bur seems normal to me! Definitely not fat. He's gorgeous though, a really handsome and friendly boy!
