How big can a normal moggie get?

We have 3 cats, 1 of them is a rescue cat that we got as an 11 week old kitten, I always thought he was regular cat size until we got the other 2.

The smallest of my cats had to go to the vet the other day and she was commenting on how big he was, now, the biggest of my cats (rescue) is at least twice the size of him, he is massive. We have often had people coming in to the house and gasping at his size. Blush

So, seeing as we don't actually know much about where he came from, could someone tell me how big a normal moggie would grow?

Last time I weighed him he was just under 2 stone, he isn't fat though but tall and long.

Just curious. :)

He could have a bit of British Shorthair in him. They tend to look a bit teddy beary and can be on the hefty side. One of mine is 6.5 kilos and rumoured in the neighbourhood to be at least part panther Smile

devil .. I also have a British shorthair and he is like a teddy. He is huge and weighs just over 6kg so I am very impressed with some of the weights being mentioned here.

Big cats are great!

SchrodingersMew · 25/09/2012 20:33

Right, here's Skrinkle

He doesn't actually look big in that photo but he really is!

Blimey! he looks big.

I wouldnt like to tell him he's not having another pouch.

SchrodingersMew · 25/09/2012 20:53

Haha, he's a big softie he's probably cry if you said that then steal the other cats bowls. :o

He's a giant.

Mine used to be that "solid" until recently when we gave him a calorie controlled food. He still spreads himself all over the sofa given half a chance.

SchrodingersMew · 25/09/2012 21:03

Calorie controlled diet wouldn't work with my chap, he takes a couple of bites and seems to get bored, his bowl is normally left half full and he doesn't even get as much as I think he probably should. They don't get treats or tit bits either Confused He's out nowadays all day too, we have problems getting him back in at night as well.

He's just a huge un.

Nutella Out of curiosity what do you give cats on a diet?

Mine went onto the seniors stuff as they are 9 years old and He was getting very porky. Funnily enough his sister has put on weight on it. No change in eating habits.

It's very weird.

SecretNutellaFix · 25/09/2012 21:05

He's probably being fed at several other houses too, whether they are aware of it or not.Grin

SchrodingersMew · 25/09/2012 21:07

When do they go on senior stuff? He's 6 next month.

Female cat though has got fat, when I got her she was really skinny (not convinced she was looked after properly, had a tooth missing, gum disease and serious issues with people and seemed depressed) since we got her neutered, I think she might need a diet.

He's only been an outdoor cat for a month and wont stray past the 3 gardens behind us. :o He's just a fatty by nature!

Maybe he has a secret stash hidden in the hedgerow! He's lovely.

SecretNutellaFix · 25/09/2012 21:16

We changed mine last year.

SchrodingersMew · 25/09/2012 21:26

Wouldn't put it past him!

Think I might put the girl on a diet though I'm looking at her just now and if she wasn't spayed I would swear she was pregnant. :(

He definitely looks fatter than he is in that picture, he's very fluffy and I think this makes him look a bit bigger, when he gets stuck in the bath he's half the size. I can easily feel his ribs and unlike the fat girl cat doesn't have a big pregnant hangy pouch.

Maybe he is and I'm just not seeing it properly because he's fat in a different way from the girl? (I realise how stupid that sounds)

I don't know how I would get him on a diet though as like I said before he really doesn't eat much at all. Confused I'd never forgive myself though if he got ill from being fat though. :(

If I carry our cat a certain way his tummy looks huge but he has a waist.
