I really don't need another cat, I really really don't...

I was driving home tonight and got to the road next to mine - the car in front of me drove slowly over something, it looked like a black bag.

I stopped the car to get out and look at it as I didn't want to wreck the bottom of my car driving over something hard. When I got out to look I found out it was a black kitten, about six months old, covered in fleas and poo - a wretched looking little thing.

I tried to catch it but it darted under a car. So I went home, got a towel and a box and went back and managed to crawl under the car and grab it. I took it to the animal hospital in Wanstead, and rang the RSPCA to get a log number so it could be treated.

It doesn't appear to be damaged by the car, but it's anemic, hyperthermic and very weak. It may not survive the night, I have to call in the morning to see how it is. I really don't need another cat (I've got three cats and two dogs - all but one are rescues) but I know that RSPCA are euthanising everything that comes in at the moment because they are so full.

I'm feeling very sad about this, could I foster it and rehome it - would anyone really want a scraggy black kitten, would I just end up with another? Should I just walk away and forget about it :(

I 'stole' my neighbours kittens a couple of weeks back.

They were dumped outside with no shelter day and night, malnourished and becoming quite ill. Far too little to even be away from their mothers much less expected to fend for themselves.

Now I have 5 cats which is complicated at times but seeing these kittens healthy and purring on my lap and knowing they'd have been dead by now if I hadn't taken them in makes it a no brainer... Id do it again if I had to

I've put a couple of photos on my profile page (tough is overly worried about her arms lol), she is such a lovely little cat.

She is unhurt from her brush with the cars, basically I saw her bounce off the back wheels of one car and then be driven over by the following car. I stopped to see what it was lying in the road.

She is nervous, so is probably a bit stressy. But she is the most affectionate cat I've ever met.

I was tempted to dye my evil ginger tom black and offer him to Tough as a ringer, but I think she may have guessed that I'd done a cheeky swap.

She's lovely

SummerRain · 05/08/2012 10:10

Could work sparkling, of the five cats I have now: three turned up in my garden, one was the kitten of one of the cats that appeared and the fifth I almost ran over on a bog road as he'd been dumped and was playing on the tarmac.

That little cat is gorgeous, such a lovely face... Has she got a name yet?

SparklingGoldMedals · 05/08/2012 10:13

The only feline emergency that I have been involved with was passing a dead cat that had just been run over back to it's tearful owner in a box. Sad

People were driving round it. I had to stop the traffic, scoop it up etc. Sad

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/08/2012 10:17

Sparkling, I had to do that too. On a busy A road approaching a motorway in the morning rush hour. I had to leave it on the grass though and ring the council to get it. I hope it was chipped so the owners found it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/08/2012 10:19

She's got big ears like forrin cats have.

She's a lovely little thing, all cats are BEAUTIFUL. Even sphynx.

SparklingGoldMedals · 05/08/2012 10:19

it was the car one in front of me that ran it over. i can't believe the driver wouldn't have known. Sad

It's horrible isn't it Fluffy, but I couldn't just leave it there.

Sorry to derail the thread. I am sure my manky stray will appear shortly. Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/08/2012 10:38

I think you need to tell us where you live sparkling, then one of us can lob (gently of course) a kitten into your back garden.

You just have to look surprised when you "find" it.

SparklingGoldMedals · 05/08/2012 10:41

I am in the process of learning how to be a home checker for The Cat's Protection. Everyone else is getting a cat/kitten. Envy

Grin at 'lobbed kittens'.
