I really don't need another cat, I really really don't...

I was driving home tonight and got to the road next to mine - the car in front of me drove slowly over something, it looked like a black bag.

I stopped the car to get out and look at it as I didn't want to wreck the bottom of my car driving over something hard. When I got out to look I found out it was a black kitten, about six months old, covered in fleas and poo - a wretched looking little thing.

I tried to catch it but it darted under a car. So I went home, got a towel and a box and went back and managed to crawl under the car and grab it. I took it to the animal hospital in Wanstead, and rang the RSPCA to get a log number so it could be treated.

It doesn't appear to be damaged by the car, but it's anemic, hyperthermic and very weak. It may not survive the night, I have to call in the morning to see how it is. I really don't need another cat (I've got three cats and two dogs - all but one are rescues) but I know that RSPCA are euthanising everything that comes in at the moment because they are so full.

I'm feeling very sad about this, could I foster it and rehome it - would anyone really want a scraggy black kitten, would I just end up with another? Should I just walk away and forget about it :(

Are you having her tough?

Lizcat · 02/08/2012 13:34

You can never have too many cats, says the lady sitting next to the tailless cat who arrived in her life late one night as a cruelty case. The joy in seeing the tailless cat stop self epilating her tail stump as her stress levels have dropped and then finally seeing the kitten emerge last night. All cats deserve loving forever homes.

Wolfiefan · 02/08/2012 13:36

Did you notice you called your house her home? Suckered!! You now have one more cat. (Sounds vv small so you won't notice!)

SparklingGoldMedals · 02/08/2012 13:36

My dream is for a cat/kitten to turn up in my garden and move in. Sparkling Cat and DH won't allow me to go and get one but i may be in with a chance if one adopts us.

TangoSierra · 02/08/2012 13:38

ToughyAs I think you are the chosen one!

Off you trot to the shops for litter tray, kitty toys etc Grin

TheCokeMachine · 02/08/2012 13:41

I am dropping her off to Toughasoldboots on Saturday :)

In the mean time she is living like a princess in my back bedroom. I may go and give her some more turkey ham and a little cuddle in a moment.

That's lovely. Grin We will need pictures. It's the rules.

catsrus · 02/08/2012 14:04

wipes eyes.

I've got 6 of the blighters and have had between 4-6 for the last 25+ yrs, something just kicks in when we get back down to 4 again and then when we go up to 6 I say "never again" Confused. It doesn't help that one previously sweet cat always turns into hellcat when new kittens arrive, I think they have a rota all worked out.....

was from Pets at Home, boots. There were at least 4 other people browsing cat toys while I was there Grin

SparklingGoldMedals · 02/08/2012 14:28

What about this beauty? Grin

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 02/08/2012 14:31

Poor little kitten, I'm gald she will have a good home.
Apparantly black cats are extremely hard to home

DH says I am preparing to be local madcatwoman in my old age

We have 5 cats at the moment. Two are strays that we took in and the others are from local cat rescues.
We live in the middle of nowhere and over the years have taken in half a down strays so my friend reckons the cats must spread the message that I am a soft touch

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 02/08/2012 14:32

See, my cats ignore toys and purpose built cat things.
On the other hand they see everything else as fair game

ColouringIn · 02/08/2012 14:50

Aw what a lovely happy ending. I rescued a cat three weeks ago and she is currently sleeping on one sofa while the original cat is on the other.
They touch noses now but mu original cat usually gives little one a clout to remind her of her place.

MimsyBorogroves · 02/08/2012 15:00

Lovely ending :)

FWIW, I have 2 cats ans a fairly new kitten. I theorise that kittens don't take up much space, and once she's bigger we will be so glad that she's no longer pinging off walls/faces/lego buildings that we won't really notice her anyway. Or something. Hmm

Sparkling we had one of those, DH went to Halfords to buy a new car battery. It was closed so he went in PetsatHome instead and came back with one of those monsters.

It got broken in an unfortunate 'accident' and I had to take it to the tip.

I think Sparkling Cat would love one but Dh wouldn't let it in the house. Sad
