My cat's gone missing : (

My fluffy little girl disappeared yesterday afternoon and it's been raining all night. She's an indoor cat and a bit soft, not streetwise at all so I'm thinking the worst. I need to sit down with a map and work out which houses belong to all the gardens around us so I can do leaflets now. There are so many missing cat posters round here, it's really depressing!

Have you found her yet?

Willow89 · 14/05/2012 13:42

Oh naturalbaby hope she turns up soon. I have 4 cats and at one stage or another they have all gone missing for a few days, but always turned up safe and sound.
They say to give it ten days before you start worrying, easier said than done!

crazynanna · 14/05/2012 15:50

Sad Hope she's home now.

Is she microchipped?

SodThat · 14/05/2012 15:59

oh dear, any news? I had one of mine go missing last year. I range everywhere including the vet who said it was failry common for cats to wander off, and to try not to worry until a week has passed as a great many bugger off for a few days out of the blue then saunter back in when ready.
Fingers crossed this is the case for you.

SodThat · 14/05/2012 15:59

oh, mine came back a few hours later btw

CaptainHetty · 14/05/2012 16:01

My cat often vanishes for a day or so. Pretty sure the fat git is off getting fed another meal or two somewhere else, actually.

I hope she comes back soon :)

naturalbaby · 14/05/2012 18:49

still no sign. She's had the odd night out but always been back desperate for a warm house the next morning. I keep hearing positive stories of cats returning but I just had a horrible feeling all afternoon, before we realised she'd disappeared. We don't have a cat flap and can't leave a window or anything open for her. The playhouse is open though, with a couple of cushions.
Have had a good walk round, there's a whole new world of houses and gardens up the road that I never knew existed!

It's early days yet natural. have you got a picture you could put on flyers and post them around the neighbourhood and on lampposts?

Fingers crossed x

naturalbaby · 14/05/2012 22:28

Just trying to get the wording on the leaflet sorted then DH will print a load out tomorrow. It's so frustrating, she's probably locked up somewhere waiting to be let out but most people won't be back out in the garden till next weekend.

Put on the leaflet 'Check your sheds and garages please'.

Let the local vets and cat rescues know. Is she microchipped/wearing a collar?

Sparklingbrook · 15/05/2012 16:16

Any news natural?

Oh I'm so sorry. I have been through it and it's awful. I couldn't think of anything else and I kept checking front and back doors 'just in case' and every time I came home I would hope she was there.

Unfortunately ours wasn't a happy ending but she was found so we got closure.

Don't give up. There are lots of stories of the wandering cats who are found/return wondering what the fuss is about.

AngelWreakinHavoc · 16/05/2012 10:13

Hi Natural. I really hope You find her soon. I was in the same situation a few weeks ago. I would suggest getting posters up asap with your phone number and ask people to check their sheds and garages. I hope she comes home soon x

naturalbaby · 16/05/2012 16:00

I've done some reading and decided to put some fish out this evening to tempt her back, hoping all the other cats don't get there first! What kind of fish though - anything? I've got smoked mackeral in the fridge, small bits of uncooked salmon in the freezer but she's on a biscuit only diet so I've got no idea what she would go for.

Also, I'm sure she's in a garden so what if she can't get over the fence, or the owners haven't bothered to check, or not checked properly??

You have my sympathy - 2 years ago our cat went missing. We had not had him long and as a pedigree rescue he wasnt used to being out and about. My one bit of advice would be to leaflet further than you think - he was eventually found by a lovely couple who fed stray cats on the very last street we had leafleted 9 days later. Hope she comes home soon and dont give up hope.

Sparklingbrook · 16/05/2012 16:06

You could ask to look in the neighbour's gardens. The stinkier the fish the better.

Also sounds bizarre but tip the contents of your hoover in the garden, because it may help her smell her way back.

AngelWreakinHavoc · 17/05/2012 09:26

I second Sparkling Also if she has litter in the litter tray sprinkle that round the garden x

naturalbaby · 17/05/2012 14:09

I've just read about the hoover bag contents. I put out fish and her bed last night, still no sign so will get the hoover and litter tray out later!

I keep thinking I can hear her very faintly but it could be a cat indoors somewhere. I'm really worried she's trapped or injured somewhere and can't physically get back. She got into a neighbours garden a while ago and struggled to get back out.

Waiting for mine to come home tooSad. He got scared by a dog Tuesday afternoon and ran, no sign since. I left food outside last night and it was gone by this morning and they're aren't too many outdoor cats around here so I'm hopeful. Mine has doen this before a couple of years ago and I had 3 sleepless nights before he turned up so don't give up hope. Mine is also totally not streetwise and a huge coward.

bobblehead · 19/05/2012 04:52

My boy just showed up at the back door, bedraggled and collarless, but happy to be home.
Hope your girl is back Natural[happy]

naturalbaby · 19/05/2012 17:40

That's great news bobblehead. Every time I come downstairs I wonder if she's going to be sitting at the back door Sad. The neighbours must be getting sick of me shouting out the back door several times a day, every day!

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 19/05/2012 17:41

It's exactly what I did though natural. I just wanted to know.

bobblehead · 19/05/2012 18:55

I felt that way too. We had a thunderstorm last night too which I thought would scare him off more. I was just a drizzle when he appeared last night so I think he may just have got fed up. He stayed up all night "hunting" his toy mice, so has clearly had quite a nice time.

Don't give up hope. Mine really is a huge scaredy cat who'd had the biggest fright and he still came back, I'm sure yours will too.
Also I saw the tail end of mine disappearing the from a garden a couple of doors down the night before after calling his name, so just because you are calling and she's not coming doesn't mean she's not around/sick/injured/stuck. They just go into survival mode.

Sparklingbrook · 19/05/2012 18:57

She may be in someone's garage/shed who has been away for a week.
