My cat didn't come home last night

I'm absolutely worried sick, I've been up most of the night calling her but there's no sign. It's freezing as well.

We've only had her a few months so she still doesn't really know the area too well. She didn't go out for the first 6 weeks but then she loved it. She doesn't really respond to her name yet but she normally just stays in or around the garden and then miaows at the door to come back in.

I don't know what to do. She's been out since early eve last night. I'm just hoping she's got locked in a shed or garage so she'd at least have been sheltered from the frost. If she is, I'm hoping she'll turn up when people start going out to work and open up garages etc but then I've got to go out to work at 8.30 so there'll be no-one here to let her in until 3 when dh gets home.

Will she have been ok in the cold? None of my cats have ever really stayed out overnight so I'm worried sick. I haven't told the dcs yet as I'm hoping she'll turn up before they notice.

My cat sometimes stays out on frosty nights, even in the snow. No idea where she goes but always comes home in the morning and sleeps all day.

I hope yours comes home soon, they are worrying little creatures.

RollerCola · 17/01/2012 08:02

Thanks confuzzled, thankfully we live on a quiet cul de sac which backs onto a canal so maybe she's been exploring down there all night. Still no sign this morning yet though Sad

aww poor you , I don't have a cat but can you put something by the back door like a blanket or a box or something if it does come back while you're at work

crazynanna · 17/01/2012 16:17

Any news Roller? Smile

igetcrazytoo · 17/01/2012 16:42

If cats go missing its usually within their territory of 200 yards around the house.

My cat went missing last year. If it were me I'd go outside now with smelly tin of fish, calling her name and listening hard for a reply.

Post leaflets into local houses asking them to check sheds and garages and ring local vets.

hope she comes home soon.

Sparklingbrook · 17/01/2012 16:56

Hope she's back soon Roller.

catonlap · 17/01/2012 17:12

Agree put leaflets through the local houses. I once found my cat this way. A lady had taken her in thinking she looked lost but she phoned in response to my leaflet and I went to collect her. Was only a few doors down the road.

RollerCola · 17/01/2012 18:12

Thanks everyone, still no sign Sad

Dh has knocked on all the immediate neighbours and asked them to check their sheds etc but no-ones seen her. The next door neighbour did say she was in her garden quite a lot yesterday though.

I've put some food out and am going to do some leaflets tomorrow to push through doors. Our garden backs onto the Manchester ship canal which may be where she went exploring. I'm scared that she fell in Sad

We've not said anything to the kids yet and they've not really noticed she's missing but it won't be long. I'm dreading it because it was only in august that our old cat died and they were really upset.

Sorry there's no news. My neighbour's cat has just appeared after 5 days looking like she has been stuck in someone's garage. Is she microchipped?

RollerCola · 17/01/2012 21:00

Yes she's chipped but she hasn't got a collar. I'll contact the chip people tomorrow.

Sparkling cat doesn't have a collar, she just loses them. Are you allowed to put some notices on lampposts? Have you notified all the local vets and cat rescue places? Also tell the postman. Smile

Keeping everything crossed for you.

topknob · 17/01/2012 21:13

Is the cat back yet?? We had a cat for 15 yrs no problems perfect and she even died with us :( then we got Charlie..a male, who disapeered at 9 months old, we even saw him a few times but he never came homes despite leaflets drops etc..we now have two girls who are 10 & 11 months..one rarely leaves the house, she is 1/2 persian though and a tortiseshell who constantly scares me...if it hadn't been for Charlie leaving I wouldn't worry but she goes off for a night, turns up the following night, always loses her collars, and is generally very rude but she is such a lovely girl when she is here. I do understand your fear and hope so much your cat is home xx

Sparklingbrook · 17/01/2012 21:15

topknob · 18/01/2012 18:41

Any news?

RollerCola · 18/01/2012 21:08

She's home! I'm so relieved!

I ran off 300 leaflets today and dh and I pushed them through all the houses on our road and 2 others. While I was pushing mine through a man came rushing after me to say he'd seen a black cat in his garden today and that he'd keep an eye out for it again. Another lady in the same part of the road said she'd seen one in her house today as well.

I didn't get my hopes up too much as there is another black cat that I've seen wandering about that tends to go in peoples houses so I thought it might have been that one.

When I got home another lady rang to say a black cat had been in her garden most of the day, and that she did have a high-pitched miaow (I put that on the leaflet) I started to get quite hopeful then, and 5 mins later she rang again to say she was there NOW :)

I rushed off with my cat basket and the man showed me into their garden. As I started calling her I heard her straight away :) She was hiding down the back of his greenhouse, so we managed to grab her and now she's home safe and sound. I've no idea where she's spent the last 2 nights in all the frost but apart from being quite hungry she's showing no obvious signs of injury or distress.

In fact she's just lounging around as if she'd never been away now Angry

Anyway, just so glad she's ok because I'd started to give up hope that we'd ever see her again. Thanks everyone for all your support.

YAY !!!!

Sparklingbrook · 18/01/2012 21:10

Yeeesssss!!!! I am so pleased Roller. That has made my day. Grin Are you going to keep her in for a bit longer? I bet the DC are so excited.

Sparklingbrook · 18/01/2012 21:11

Maybe a box of chocolates for the lady that rang you too? Smile

RollerCola · 18/01/2012 21:13

Oh yes that's a lovely idea, I'll get them a present tomorrow. They were a lovely couple - as I walked round the road he came to meet me and said he was just taking his cats on their evening walk! Apparently he has a little walk round the block each night and his two cats go with him. As I looked round sure enough there they were trotting along!

I've just seen this thread, and am so happy your kitty is home :)

PurpleKittyKnitting · 18/01/2012 21:16

Oh never saw this yesterday! So glad she is home!

Lots of hugs and kisses for her!!

Sparklingbrook · 18/01/2012 21:17

Cat people are lovely Roller. Wish Sparkling cat would come for a walk with me. Envy She probably wouldn't want to be seen with me, she's a bit of a princess. Grin
