How is everyone doing?

Pod is extremely hot but whining at me because he doesn't like the fan. Sitting next to his cooling mat, natch 🙄

Mine is mainly being lazy and sleeping all day. But he does that when it’s mild so hard to tell the difference really. He does like his cooling mat though but sometimes thinks he’s helping by breathing hot breath on my face

He looks like he's been polished

My boy 10 this year, he’s also really struggling with it 😞
I hate this weather
Also, he won’t poo in the garden, so evening walks are a nitemare rn (we do a long early morning walk, but then I need go bed early, like 830!!) so we’ve been doing a quick poo walk at 8pm, but even then it’s still so bloody hot 😞😞😞

Ooooooh we went through this!! Pod wouldn't poop in the garden but nighttime walks in the summer we're getting dangerous due to him hurling himself after every cat/badger/rat he could smell. It took about a week but he broke eventually.

Mine is totally fine, his energy levels haven't changed a bit, to my dismay.
He's a bit like those kids you see with their North Face puffer jacket in July.

We just go out earlier and later in the day, and do some training to keep his few brain cells busy.

countrygirl99 · 24/06/2026 09:46

Mine are going bonkers every time I go near the freezer because they know there are home made doggy ice creams in there.
Sprocker has to be kept in because he is not sensible. Brittany came from Spain and is glad someone has turned the outdoor heating on at last and the infernal rain has stopped.

operationplaytime · 24/06/2026 09:59

They’re hot and bothered but we have powerful fans downstairs and I hose/sprinkle them off in the garden every couple of hours

BridgetJonesV2 · 24/06/2026 10:00

My old boy was utterly miserable last night, couldn't settle and kept pacing. It was lovely outside at 5am, so we went for a short walk and then they both had a cool bath in the sink. They're now led on cool mats with a fan on each of them.

SadiraOfTyr · 24/06/2026 10:03

Fine. GSDs. They don't care about weather. They get hosed off after a walk which they love. Older one is not running as much and taking it easy, younger one (who also has a shorter coat) is still up for anything.

EdithStourton · 24/06/2026 10:12

HPRs, one young, one middle-aged.

They're fine. I've got the door shut to keep the house cool, but the older one is sunbathing by a window - I'd like to close the curtains but don't want to spoil her fun. I walked them yesterday pm, partly in shade, mostly with a good breeze, at about 27C, and they were panting but perfectly happy.

They're remarkably weatherproof - cold, rain, wind, snow, heat.

ChirpyTealFox · 24/06/2026 10:24

I'm in the south east so hot as hell already with no breeze and DDog (dickhead dog) keeps asking to go out only for him to stand there sniffing the air and panting frying himself in the sun, he doesn't even need to go! Other dog is much more intelligent and only going out when she needs to go

dennydan · 24/06/2026 11:05

5.00am walk this morning and was pretty hot even then in SE. Labs and collies are getting the hang of the hot weather and sleeping way more than usual.

WCS however are just pinging off the walls if given half a chance. The wcs are on duty tonight but in air conditioned van and air conditioned building. Hopefully they will be more chilled for tomorrow day of heat.

Bridgertonisbest · 24/06/2026 11:08

After initial suspicion both dogs are enjoying the cool mat. We also have 3ft hot water bottles that we put in the freezer and the lie against those.

Cairneyes · 24/06/2026 11:13

Cairn has, as usual, dug himself a hole in the shady part of the garden and alternates between there and the tiles in the hallway. He objects vociferously when it is usual walkies time and we stay at home!

henlake7 · 24/06/2026 17:25

Alf seems fine. I was abit worried as he will be 13 this year but other then spending more time sleeping on the tile floor rather then a bed and eating abit less (and missing a couple of walks a day) he isnt that bothered.
He is a toy breed with anxiety issues so staying home in the peace and quiet makes him happy!

RVectensian · 25/06/2026 22:02

Hot! Won't sit on cool mat or go in the paddling pool though obvs

Mine is fine in the morning, but gets restless during the afternoon. Wants to go outside and play at lunchtime! Currently sitting outside. Guess it’s cool out there now.

This we do this and also they have a shower with us twice a day. We have a very large shower and wear swimming stuff. We do tepid and then a bit cooler and one likes it, one doesn’t like and one is indifferent - cools them right down though

MrsMitford3 · 26/06/2026 08:38

Am def hot and grumpy but am not impressed by how many dogs I saw yesterday out in the heat of the day.

Ours had a lovely swim at around 0900 this morning, and is now following me around the house.

Ever hopeful that I might play ball with her even though I'm just out there to chase her back inside as it's 35 degrees

MissyB1 · 26/06/2026 16:42

Ours is now pestering to go out for another walk (no chance! It’s 30 degrees still!) She had a walk at 7am, but she’ll have to wait until 8pm at least now.

TheLoyalSquid · 26/06/2026 17:28

Mine are either passed out on the kitchen sofa with two fans pointing at them, or pacing around looking uncomfortable & bored. But so am I to be honest.

Xmasmusings · 26/06/2026 19:06

My dog likes his cool vest as well but I found it wasn't so effective once it got to 30 degrees. It might have worked better if I could have poured truly cold water on it but the water coming out the cold tap felt lukewarm.

Apparently it's the humidity. The evaporative ones rely on dry air to work properly. Once it's over 70% humidity the water doesn't evaporative and it's just another hot layer on the dog.
