Not tagging anyone. I'm sure you'll all find your way here if you want to join in. 😁

I have thought recently I wouldn’t mind a nice but dim dog, rather than a super clever little rascal.

@SpanielsGalore V does the same - he will steal something then sit and drop it, but in an awkward place where you can’t pick it up but he can, and wait for his treat before he lets you have it. He’s also mastered laying on dd and giving her the puppy eyes so she will share food with him, which she falls for every time.

It sounds like you’re going to have a lovely weekend. Does your dd live down south?

Weather has been so nice here today. Very still and gloriously sunny. Me and V sat outside the restaurant and had a coffee and DH has made some hot cross buns (unfortunately for the restaurant not for home but I did manage to snaffle one straight from the oven!!). I nipped into Pets at Home and they had loads of toys massively reduced so V has ended up with 4 new ones for Easter plus a pack of Easter themed tennis balls from Asda because they looked cute…

VanGoSunflowers · 03/04/2026 16:48

@SpanielsGalore hope all goes well with the MOT - and that you can save the £180 after all!

@YorkshireFelix I love hot cross buns so much. I bet they’re difficult to make aren’t they?! If you want a slightly dim but nice dog I can offer you Pablo 😂

I might be being a little unfair although he did piss me off today! He has been so good lately I think he lured me in to a false sense of security. He bolted over to a GSD that I didn’t see in time and would not come back for love nor money. Tried ‘this way’ and walking off but nope, nada. The other dog clearly wasn’t happy with him but he won’t listen to other dogs telling him off and just seemed to think it was a game! He went back on lead for most of the rest of the walk and walked to heel for the most part, think he was trying to get back in my good books!

On a side note, my sister commented today that Pablo is the only thing I ever talk about so I may have gotten a little obsessive without realising it 🤦‍♀️

SpanielsGalore · 03/04/2026 22:19

@VanGoSunflowers There's absolutely nothing wrong with only talking about dogs. 😳 😂

Sorry Pablo was a little naughty today. My sprocker could be like that. He'd bounce around just out of reach, so I couldn't grab hold of him. But there was never any rhyme or reason as to which dogs he'd annoy and which he'd recall away from.

@YorkshireFelix DD and GC live in Ireland, so I don't get to see them very often. Especially since my dog sitter joined the army.

Had a lovely trip out on the Easter Bunny Train today. Then back home where the GC seem to have well and truly got over their fear of dogs. I think K was a bit overwhelmed by all the attention in the end, and needed a break.
But the treacherous little git retrieved her pink toy at least a dozen times for them when they threw it. So I guess that will be coming to our training class with us next week. I'm sure a stuffed unicorn will go down well with an old school gundog trainer. 😂

@SpanielsGalore Your Sproker sounds a bit like Satan. She goes out to woof sometimes (either to get other dogs off the sofa, or to get called in for a treat) when she's at my house. Some dogs are just very savvy.

Sorry to hear about your car😔Could someone take you to Aberdeen or is it to far?

Bless K for managing to win over the GC. Hope your DD and GC have a lovely time up with you - perhaps by the time they leave the GC will be after a dog of their own? 😄

Some dogs are just naturally very good with certain types of people I have found. Twatdog is particularly gentle and soft with very frail pensioners - everyone else he leans heavily against (or jumps up still if they excite him), but with pensioners he's an absolute sweetheart.

@VanGoSunflowers I'm sure Pablo was very apologetic.😂It happens though and is very embarrassing. At least sometimes they learn a lesson...although sounds here like Pablo just learnt how to be a bit of a nob.

And nothing wrong with your dogs being the only thing you ever talk about.

Someone in my line management chain at work didn't even realise I had DDs or was married to DH...who literally works in the same organisatio. She asked if I knew why X was 'short-touring' a few months ago and I explained why, including about our DDs, and her face was a picture. On the other hand, she knows everything about my dogs. I've worked with her for five years...which probably says a lot about what I talk about at work.😳

Bought a new hat. Little sod nicked it right off my head. Could barely take the photo, I was laughing so much 😄

That made me smile.

Had a lovely walk around Rye today, a historical, little cobbled town, then planned to walk along the coast but it turned wet and windy. However, meant we got home in time for the Boat Race, and Cambridge won. Hooray!

Redspaniel · 04/04/2026 20:25

had a lovely 'walk' around Buxton today 🤭🤭

Lovely photo

Silverbirchleaf · 05/04/2026 12:19

I haven’t added a photo for a while so here’s one from our morning walk. Different route to normal, and with dh, who he’s looking at. Lots of large badger setts around hence long lead. Sunny, but chilly wind.

Ooh I forgot to share a story of Rory not being Mr Perfect. He is starting day care next week and we went for a visit on Thursday. Rory tried to pee on the owner’s wellies 🤣🙈. I think he was trying to let all the other dogs know he’s arrived 🤣.

Silverbirchleaf · 06/04/2026 08:45

That’s hilarious!

YorkshireFelix · 06/04/2026 11:26

@Redspaniel extremely handsome even when he’s soaked through!

@Bupster that is hilarious - this is why we can’t have nice things!!!

@Silverbirchleaf he is lovely. The weather looked gorgeous where you are. We had hailstones on and off for most of the day yesterday!!

SpanielsGalore · 06/04/2026 18:48

Hope everyone has had a good Easter. Busy days with family visiting here. The dogs are coping extremely well with all the extra people/noise/attention. Although I think they are glad of the peace and quiet when they all leave. 😂

I have pushed P's vet appointment back a week. I decided I couldn't risk a 114 mile round trip with no MOT.

@Bupster Have you seen this? Glad scientists have finally caught up with what I've been saying for years.

Saw the headlines earlier. Wouldn’t surprise me within reason. We know with Dog that he diesn’t always tolerate touch or being close to people. Other times he likes a bit of huggable play.

VanGoSunflowers · 07/04/2026 14:16

@Silverbirchleaf @SpanielsGalore I haven’t got Facebook, what’s the news?? I’m being nosey 😂

Glorious sunshine here, hope everyone else has nice weather!

SpanielsGalore · 07/04/2026 14:31

@VanGoSunflowers Scientists have said dogs can have autism and ADHD. Which I said about my dog 17 years ago.

I do think Bill and I have a lot in common in terms of attention spa... SQUIRREL!

@SpanielsGalore That’s interesting and certainly unsurprising as @Silverbirchleaf says. I guess any complex brain can be divergent so to speak!

Pablo turns one today! Can’t believe how fast that has gone!

Happy birthday Pablo!

Happy Birthday Pablo. 🎂

@VanGoSunflowers That has gone quickly. Doesn't seem that long ago that he was a GSD. 😂

He says thanks @Silverbirchleaf & @SpanielsGalore

I know, I daren’t re-read that thread as it will probably make me cringe with embarrassment 😂
Although I am glad I took that advice, it was definitely the right move to get my boy ❤️

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 08/04/2026 10:37

Happy Birthday Pablo ❤Hope he has a lovely day full of treats and walks.

YorkshireFelix · 08/04/2026 23:34

Aww happy birthday Pablo!!!

Idstillratherbepaddleboarding · 09/04/2026 06:54

Happy birthday for yesterday Pablo 🎉🎉

SpanielsGalore · 10/04/2026 09:24

We went to our first Introduction To Gundog Training session last night. There was an Irish setter, a black lab and four cockers. The setter and lab were obviously on the wrong course. They sat to watch a dummy being thrown. Recalled in the opposite direction. And then were sent out to do the retrieve. One cocker would fetch a ball, but not return it. The other three had no interest in retrieving at all.
So homework for the week is to light a fire under them to get them to want to retrieve. But I don't want to do the things he has said - mainly restrict access to toys and don't allow time off lead on walks. K always grabs a toy to carry around the garden. And she needs a good run to burn off some energy. Plus I can't imagine anything worse than an hour long walk of a dog pulling on a lead.
