Fun/uncommon female dog names

Help! We will be taking home a labradoodle pup next month and we cannot decide on a name. We are in agreement that we don't want it to be a really common name, but between the four of us we cannot make a decision - someone always objects. Examples of names preferred by some in the family are Clover, Coco, Dilly, Newt, Ducky, Tuna (!) and Pearl.

I have read loads of old threads and lists of dog names, but need more inspiration. Any suggestions very welcome!

She's beautiful!

I would say she's a Gladys.
Or if you don't want a human name, Toffee

oh yes toffee or fudge

If my boy had been a girl I wanted Dolly but I also like Ditsy as something cute and different.

Hard agree on thinking about what it sounds like in public. Add in the fact that you'll be calling it like a coked up cBeebies presenter and waving your arms about to try and be more exciting than whatever she's just spotted or smelled!

Come join us on the Summer 25 puppy thread when she's home!

I know two little dogs called Sheffield and Wednesday!
Your little girl looks like a Pamela or a Mavis to me.

I've promised myself that our next dog will have a really old-fashioned traditional Dog Name, like Fido, Rover, Mitzi, Rex or Spot. An Enid Blyton/Agatha Christie dog name.

I love old fashioned names like Vera, Ethel, Peggy, Edna,Wendy etc. I also like Purdy.

Newpeep · 11/07/2025 10:43

Dogs names are easier of you can shorten and lengthen them. So ending with a Y/IE or A. Two syllables work well.

Both my girls have had gender neutral names ending in A and now IE.

Also quite like other animal names - like goose or pig :)
