Of course, statistically I know he will be fine, but he is 12 so any anaesthetic is a worry.

He’s having a mass removed from his lower leg and may need to lose a toe. Hopefully it is day surgery only, and they are fairly sure it’s not cancerous, just in an awkward position which needs removing.

What a handsome boy. Is that a recent photo because he looks incredible for 12 (literally bright eyed and bushy tailed)?!

As you say, he'll probably be fine but the worry is always there with them. I'll keep my fingers crossed they don't have to take a toe - although dogs do bounce back remarkably, even older ones.

I'm in a day long training for work (which I am clearly taking very seriously) so I can post about how handsome he is every five mins, if that helps 😍

No, but it’s my favourite photo. He’s now much older looking and blind, so doesn’t have a bright eyed bushy look any more. This was one taken last week

@OnTenterhooks, respectfully, I disagree!

Still bright eyed (despite the blindness) and bushy-tailed and his coat still looks shiny! That's enough to keep the bright-eyed moniker from me 😍Is he a terrier? I'm not very good with smaller breeds, but he's absolutely lovely

Gundogday · 14/05/2025 10:49

Just realised how snooty my dog looks!

caramac04 · 14/05/2025 10:55

He is a lovely looking boy. I’m sure everything will go well and you will be able to snuggle with him tonight.
When my old staffie had dental work she was a bit sad that evening but cuddles helped and the next day she was much better. Dogs do recover pretty will I think.
Thinking of you and your handsome boy

caramac04 · 14/05/2025 10:57

Aged almost 15 and big dog 3 and a half. Sending love

Thank you all. I accidentally attached a photo of our river I see lol.

would you believe he is a cockapoo? We even got him DNA tested and he is, just shows you that the genetics of mix breeds can be very random.

Fingers crossed for your gorgeous boy today. I'm sure he will be fine, but it is always a worry when you have to leave them at the vets.
I would never have guessed he is a cockerpoo. Just shows how different they can look from each other. I met one in the woods last week that looked more like a spaniel GR cross.

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 14/05/2025 11:13

He is such a dapper gentleman! Absolute heartbreaker

OnTenterhooks · 14/05/2025 11:15

When he was a pup he looked even less like a cockapoo, or any variation of spaniel or poodle .

Looking at his eyes more closely, he's definitely got some spaniel in him! Can't believe I didn't notice it before - those eyes are 100% spaniel (very soul-ful).

Theoscargoesto · 14/05/2025 11:18

I’m here. Mine had her second cruciate repaired last Friday. Stayed in overnight, but do be warned, today is the first day I haven’t been really worried about her. She has been terribly subdued. I thought it was her reaction to NSAIDs-she doesn’t do well, even on the expensive 3rd generation ones it took me a day to source, but we stopped them really quickly. 4 days is a long time of sad eyes and no wags! I hope yours recovers quickly

SpanielsGalore · 14/05/2025 11:23

Oh yes. He's definitely spaniel like as a puppy. ♥

TokyoSushi · 14/05/2025 11:25

Oh what a darling boy, sending good wishes!

Dearg · 14/05/2025 11:35

We are sorry to hear he’s having surgery , but sending love & sniffs ❤️

And why shouldn't he? Gorgeous! 🤗

S0j0urn4r · 14/05/2025 11:41

I feel for you. I'm a mess whenever mine have surgery. He'll be fine and you can spoil him rotten when he comes home. 🤗

What a cutie he is! Wishing you both all the best.

Lovemyassistancedog · 14/05/2025 11:45

He's stunningly gorgeous. I was surprised when you said cockerpoo but having looked closely, I can see some spaniel in him now. Can't see much poodle! He looks an absolute darling at every age in those photos.

Wishing you and him all the luck in the world as he recovers from the op.

OnTenterhooks · 14/05/2025 14:19

He’s out of theatre and we will get him home later today. I will find out more info from the vet then.

thanks for all the good wishes

I hope he’s doing well - we recently adopted a 9.5yo ex race greyhound and he is having surgery to remove one of his toes next Tuesday and I have the same worries.
