Fair weather park users

Can all get to fuck.

Fifteen minutes it took me for a parking space to come available - not helped by some fair weather park user queue jumping - and I was pushed for time, so the dog had a 15 minute shorter walk.

There ought to be some sort of loyalty scheme for those of us who actually bother to use the park between October and February.

Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

This has to be the most ridiculous thing I've heard on MN!

CorylusAgain · 09/05/2024 15:38

"Lighthearted" threads nearly always make me smile. Not because the OP has said anything actually amusing, but because they are telling us who they really are 🤣

alsopeggy · 09/05/2024 15:46

I feel like this every weekend!

During the week DDog and I have lovely long off-lead walks, occasional interactions with other dogs mostly off lead, everyone seems to follow unwritten rules about leads/playtime and it's all very easy.
On weekends same places are crawling with non doggy people, and small children enjoying time with their parents. Much less relaxing for me and DDog 😁

CountingDownTheLongDays · 09/05/2024 16:08

Christ there's some miserable fuckers on this thread.

Regular users of all sorts of facilities get narked by the influx of people at certain times of year.

Regular gym goers get narked at the January influx. Regular churchgoers get narked at people whose only attendance is turning up drunk at midnight mass.

And no, parking elsewhere wasn't an option - mainly because of residents parking zones making it illegal, but for other reasons too.

As for the people on this thread who clearly don't like dogs - why are you posting in The Doghouse?

No, I think dogs should be banned from the parks between May - September, like on the beach.

😆

I often wonder this. I'm out with my dog all hours in all weathers and hardly see anyone when it's not optimal weather and timing. I sometimes ask people what they do with their dogs when the weather is terrible and I hear 'oh, he hates it when it's raining'. My dog doesn't exactly turn somersaults when it's peeing it down, but she goes out because she needs the exercise.

Yes same, mine doesn't like the rain at all.
I can get away with a day off if the weather is awful, but on day 2, he's a nightmare to live with and makes me seriously reconsider that whole dog-ownership idea.
No one would even survived day 3.
And he's a tiny terrier, not a border collie or a cocker spaniel.

Patterdale terrier here. If she's not out for sufficient time every day EVERYONE knows about it! Complete pain in the bum. I'd rather just get wet and have to put up with her sulks than have to suffer the behaviour.

uhOhOP · 09/05/2024 16:51

I completely understand what you mean, OP, in principle – I'm always surprised to see people in my forests when the weather is nice like this, as if there were no other forests available for them to visit. However, I do absolutely hate dogs being in parks and on playing fields.

yaynottoolongtogonow · 09/05/2024 16:58

Or you could look at it the other way ...

You have used it enough and now it's somebody else's turn!!!!

Seriously. Your post is ridiculous!

fieldsofbutterflies · 09/05/2024 17:30

You're being ridiculous. Of course people prefer to be outdoors in nice weather -you're not a better person because you have a dog who needs to be walked in the pissing rain 😂

Hartley99 · 09/05/2024 17:59

I know what you mean OP. It isn't their fault, of course. The real problem is overpopulation. There are just too many goddam people, full stop. The world's population has exploded over the last century or so. In 1900, there were a billion humans. By 1960 that had trebled to three billion. It's now eight billion. If you look at photos of British suburban streets in the 1930s or 1950s, the space and silence is striking.

It's predicted to be warm and sunny all day Saturday, but I won't bother to visit any local beauty spots. No point. I won't get parked. And even if I do, there will be other dog walkers everywhere. The vast majority are very pleasant. (Actually, dog-lovers generally are nice people.) But sometimes you want to be alone with nature. You can't even stop and enjoy the birdsong because it's drowned out by the distant screeching and backfiring of souped up cars.

You're narked by the situation. You're having a moan. That doesn't make it an amusing thread. People responding to you moaning are not "miserable" - they are just calling you out on your pet peeve.

EdithStourton · 09/05/2024 19:20

@CountingDownTheLongDays I feel your pain. But mostly because the fair weather dog walkers here leave their dog shit everywhere. The all-weather regulars mostly pick it up, but the fair-weather wankers leave it on the ground within 10 secs walk of the bloody bin.

MonsteraMama · 09/05/2024 19:29

Lmao love all the posters with sticks up their arses clearly not recognising this as a tongue in cheek and light-hearted post. Just frothing to jump in and hate on dogs at any opportunity.

Took my dogs to our usual woods to walk this morning and it was absolutely heaving. The Deerhound somehow ended up surrounded by children on some sort of school trip, being fussed and patted and fed mini cheddars. She was delighted so I suppose I can put up with the extra traffic.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/05/2024 12:09

Laughing at you being annoyed about parking spaces!! Literally get to the back of the queue on that one. And after all, you took
someone else's space.

Time to let other people have a turn. You've had the park all winter after all🤷‍♀️

sunglassesonthetable · 10/05/2024 12:11

And give it a rest , there are ZERO points for being a FOUL WEATHER wanker.

Only a sense of entitlement. 👌🏼

Why should my turn be in the shit weather, and then let everyone else go instead of me when it's actually nice out?

Imagine turning up to church on all the holy days of obligation and going to weekly mass and confession, and then finding you can't even get a seat at midnight mass because someone you've never seen before in your life has turned up half cut for a singsong. I think most people would be fairly annoyed at that.

Same principle. You can't expect to only turn up for the fun bits and then go straight to the front of the queue when you do.

Fair weather park users are the Disney Dads of public spaces.

Of course you can 😂

Car parks are quite literally first come, first served.

Nope. It's called 'life'.

Same principle. You can't expect to only turn up for the fun bits and then go straight to the front of the queue when you do.

A public park. You can. Just like no one made you go in the winter.

I get feeling narked, but there's no actual logic to it. Other than a sense of unpleasant entitlement.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/05/2024 14:47

If I go somewhere nice with my mum and it's busy she always says,

" what are ALL these people doing here ?!!!"

Same as you Mum. Same as you.

It's like people complaining about being stuck in traffic bank holidays without realising they are also part of the traffic 😂

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 10/05/2024 14:54

I'm quite peeved with the swifts too.
How dare they turn up with this good weather and distract my dog. Don't they know that for over half the year we have the sports field to ourselves.

fieldsofbutterflies · 10/05/2024 14:51

I'd say this was more akin to a local finding they can't get to work in a non-tourism job on time because of the bank holiday hordes.

Then, for extra fun, they're told not to live near the coast if they don't like sitting in traffic jams.

Dog walkers are the only thing keeping the park cafes in business - a few years ago one a new park cafe owner near me took over in the spring, banned dogs, and had gone bankrupt by the autumn. He didn't even last the summer months, let alone the winter! I do hope some people on this thread remember that the next time they're buying their little darling an ice cream and a froot shoot at the park.

Same thing for the locals who keep the seaside village pub going through the winter too - though at least most publicans have the sense to make sure the local regulars get a seat even in high season.

Remember, and pay hommage? ?

This thread is hilarious. I'd say it's probably the Summer months keeping the winter months open.

Def for the pubs. They NEED that summer trade to keep going.

Likewise all coastal tourist spots. What would tourist areas do better WITHOUT the summer trade?? It's called making hay whilst the sun shines.

No one LIKES traffic jams etc. But you are no less deserving than anyone else if you're in them.
