While I think of it, how does everyone handle the evening routine? My menace is a particular hooligan in the evenings. I thought he might have improved as, while back at the breeder's for a week's holiday last week, he sat in with the family to watch TV then slept downstairs in a big pile of dogs. However, while quite happy to doze off in front of the telly with me, he still gets the zoomies at about 9pm - last night I couldn't get him to sleep till 11:30pm (and as he's in my bed I am very very aware of it).

He is finally allowed out for walks so I'm planning to integrate an evening outing, and I think his dinner time - 7:30-ish - is about right, to make sure he doesn't wake me up at sparrowfart or have any accidents. How does everyone else do things in the evenings? It would be nice at some point to get back to sitting on the sofa and watching a bit of telly...

YorkshireFelix · 29/07/2024 15:38

Thanks @Bupster I will look into this! And thanks to others which gave advice too. Going to look at all the options.

Haven't been able to book 1st vaccinations in until 12th August as that's the first available appointment so it's going to be a loooooong summer waiting to be able to go walkies... I have bought a sling to carry him so some short trips to different places in the car will have the suffice!

tizwozliz · 29/07/2024 16:23

@YorkshireFelix - garden centers and pet shops are great for outings, take a piece of vet bed and stick them in a trolley. We also went places where we could just sit and observe from the car boot.

Yes lots of car boot watching is on the agenda!! I've just bought some vet bed so that's a good idea. I did think the garden centre would be a good one Smile At least he will keep DD10 entertained all summer haha!

Well, Hazel is one year old today! She also passed her silver assistance dog award. She's a lovely girl.

@Lougle Happy Birthday Hazel, and well done!

tizwozliz · 30/07/2024 07:29

Pup has come into season, the holiday is safe 😀 Now time to really practice that loose lead walking!

JamieJ93 · 31/07/2024 14:01

Does anyone want a 14 month old Milo
He's getting on my nerves
He's forgotten how to behave well and truly!

@JamieJ93 Aw! He looks like butter wouldn't melt 🙂.
What's he up to?
How are you doing?

JamieJ93 · 31/07/2024 17:43

@BrodiePup
I'm okay how are you?
My husband's flu has turned into COVID.
He's been winding me all week as well
Have been in the garden practicing recall with Milo too hot to run him on the fields, he's been in the woods this morning on a walk though.
How's Brodie?

BrodiePup · 31/07/2024 18:04

@JamieJ93 Glad you're on the mend.
I'm not too bad, fed up of the heat and trying to keep Brodie cool.
He's bored senseless stuck in doors, and I hate putting him in his crate overnight when it's so stuffy.
There's nothing worse than having a poorly bloke at home, you and your husband have my sympathies 🤣
Milo looks as interested in recall as Brodie!!

JamieJ93 · 31/07/2024 18:17

All Milo is interested in is winding me up and plotting in putting me in an early grave - seems appealing right now to get away from being terrorised by this annoying specimen of a dog 😂😂 I do love him really !!
But if you have a working cocker you just know!!! Haha
And then I have my husband moaning and moaning and moaning and moaning 😶‍🌫️

BrodiePup · 31/07/2024 21:27

@JamieJ93 There's nothing worse than a poorly bloke...Ah! Yes there is...a WCS 🤣.
They really are adorable when they're not being little b***ds. Brodie has discovered the joy of getting dirty washing out of the washer, my socks I can deal with, the husbands pants I can live without!

blazethrough · 01/08/2024 18:26

My 9 month old cocker spaniel seems to have regressed when it comes to going to the toilet! She's always been so good, asks to go outside to toilet and yet the last 2 days she's wee'd in the house at least half a dozen times when the back door was open for her, and has done a poo in the house as well!! Which has to be the first time in 5 months.

Is this normal?!? What do I do to help her toilet outside again? I've been out there with her and given her time and space but it's not working. Any advice anybody?

BrodiePup · 01/08/2024 21:09

@blazethrough Heck, that's disappointing! I'm not sure, I'm only at 5 and a half months with my pup. Could it be adolescence? Could she be coming into season? If she seems fit and well try going back to square one and take her out regularly. I'm sure someone will be able to help more than me soon.
Hope things get back on track quickly.

JamieJ93 · 01/08/2024 23:34

@blazethrough
Yes normal
Any training they have learned they seem to "forget"
Milo is also a cocker and has accidents sometimes - he is 13 months for reference.

blazethrough · 02/08/2024 09:28

@BrodiePup @JamieJ93 thanks for your responses! I'll go back to basics again, but glad to hear it's all par for the course.

YorkshireFelix · 03/08/2024 11:59

He's here! He is SO cute. My daughter is thrilled to bits!

He just flopped and fell asleep next to me so I popped him in his crate with bedding from his own bed that the breeder gave us. I don't dare move but I am desperate to pee!!

@YorkshireFelix
Welcome to puppyhood!
He looks so cute! Mind you - they all do when sleeping!
Do you want to swap with a (naughty) 14 month cocker spaniel 🤣
@BrodiePup I've finally caught COVID off my husband 🫣 I am ill - I have been testing negative all week but I've got a mega sore throat this morning and struggling to breath and got a faint line on a test :-( gonna struggle with Milo I think!

YorkshireFelix · 03/08/2024 15:27

Hope you don't feel unwell for too long @JamieJ93 Sad

Vinny is gorgeous. He is so confident and playful. I can't get him to nap in the crate but he's done a few half hour stints on the wooden floor which he seems to be liking at the moment. Struggling to get him to sleep for longer than that but we can already tell when he's due a nap as he gets a bit nippy. No idea how to approach sleep this evening. I am planning on sleeping downstairs with him and hoping he will go in the crate but who knows!

Ruairismum · 03/08/2024 18:32

Hey, I'm joining if that ok. Have a 10 week old golden retriever. Got him at 8 weeks and I just adore him! I need to master day crate training in 2 weeks 😭

He's soooo cute. After a cocker, my dream dog is definitely a golden!

Riverlee · 03/08/2024 21:10

Felixpup and Rusripup are gorgeous.

YorkshireFelix · 04/08/2024 05:35

5am wake up call for me! He slept way better than expected actually. He fell asleep on the floor at about 9pm, then I moved his crate round in front of the sofa and he happily went to sleep in there with just one wake up at 2.45 where he whinged for a few seconds then I got him back to sleep.

But now he's awake and land sharky! I took him straight out when he woke up but he did a poo and a wee inside when we came back in. I was stood out there forever with him too. He gets so excited by the back yard and just runs around sniffing so I don't know how to actually get him to toilet out there. It's like he saves it for when we get back inside.
