What does your Labrador weigh?

We have a Labrador who has always been small (but healthy!) since the day we brought her home 5 years ago

She's a "fox red" and only 19kilo at the moment (although her weight has been known to be 21/22kg any more than this and she is overweight says our vet)

I never released until long after we got her that there is an English Lab which is more stocky and an American Lab which is more athletic but she definitely fits into the latter. Although I had never know such a small Labrador!

Interested to hear the variations in size and also to see if anyone else has a small lab like ours

Ours is 36kg. Working lab. We knew he was going to be big as both parents are. He’s a gentleman but solid as a barn door if he accidentally body slams you!

Female Black Lab here, mum was working Dad was Show. She's about 28 kg at 9 yo. A bit on the chunky side but with a defined waist - not bad for a walking dustbin!

feelingalittlehorse · 03/02/2024 11:40

Show type bitch- 36kg
Show type chocolate boy - 42kg, he is an absolute unit of a dog, his nickname is ‘The Bear’. Was not expecting him to grow so big….
Half show/ half working chocolate bitch- 24kg. She looks like a speck next to the other two.

I should say though, whilst the two chocolates are slim and very active, my oldest bitch is 14 years old and probably should weigh about 32kg. But the exercise levels have obviously dropped, and she is extremely sedentary now.

Working lab 5 yr 29-30kg depending on pig ears consumption

Phillipa12 · 03/02/2024 12:06

Im on my 3rd black working lab and he's my lightest at 26.4kg, hes very streamline. The others were 29kgs and slim build and 32kgs and broad. Not an ounce of fat on any of them.

2 year old male, 41kg, half lab/half rhino, very greedy, very bouncy, shiny coat, waggy waggy tail, loves a paddle, love of my life.

FRL working line boy. 17 months old. 28kg. He's smaller than his brothers who are more like 35kg!

my parents have a black male that is 41kg. It’s massive. Never seen a lab so tall/ long. Parents not huge so just a genetic freak.

muddyford · 03/02/2024 18:33

My two year old black boy is 25 kg. He's a proper English Lab. American Labs are a different breed - variations in height, weight and general conformation are caused by genetics within the English breed. My boy comes from working lines but the breeder uses a bit of show blood (one granddam was a champion on the showbench before getting her working certificate) to keep the cobbiness.

Grantanow · 03/02/2024 18:42

I don't have one but a neighbour's late Lab had to have liposuction!

Firstleftpastthetree · 03/02/2024 18:51

Our girl is from a working/field line and is tall and very muscular. She's 28kg. Vet wants her down at 26kg. I've not heard of the American/English lab distinction, just field or show lines.

We have a teeny chocolate lab who is about 20kg. Working mum, show dad. Not small in the litter so no idea why she is so little.

4 year old Black working lines bitch - about 20kg. Perfect weight, super fit and muscled.

She's won quite a few best condition classes (fun shows)

She's pure lab in that she'd eat all day and never be full. She doesn't get to do that and she works for her food (scatter fed in garden - which she loves) and gets some of her food on walks as training rewards. She's very active, off lead a couple of hours a day.

I see a lot of overweight labs. They are supposed to have waists. I spent today tracking down the owners of a lost lab. 3 year old yellow lab and very chunky. And by chunky I mean fat. Sweet girl but going to have problems later in life because she's over fed.

Overrunwithlego · 03/02/2024 19:21

We thought we should feed her more as she was so small but like OP’s dog, vet said at 22kg she was getting too fat. Vet said don’t worry about weight just go by what she looks like.

There are benefits to her being small - people think she is a puppy still (once met a 6month old who was much bigger than her!) which is handy if she is being an arsehole ‘mischievous’.

Crooklodge · 03/02/2024 19:27

Our boy was 40kg the last time he was weighed. He's so tall, his sister's are all about half his height. Dad was a very tall gundog.

Just curious about whereabouts your breeder was, as mine is exactly the same!!! Absolutely titchy and parents were fairly average size. Working mum, show type dad.

Jakers ours was 25kg at 8 months. Working field line but definitely American lab in there. She's so tall with a neat head.

ThatWhiteElephant · 03/02/2024 20:54

Our girl is 2 yr old and weighs 26.6kg.
Her mum is yellow, dad fox red.
Vet says she is at the top end of healthy weight.

Feelingalittlehorse

We are in the east of England - breeder was near Ely.

Snippit · 03/02/2024 20:56

My black Labrador Bella is from gun dog stock, is 11 years old and weighs 26 kilos, the vet is happy with her.

She lives with her friends Wilfy and Bertie 🤩

@Overrunwithlego was just being nosy, as looks very much like the little one- other end of the country here, my two chocolates are both from north of the border.

Yours is just 🥰🥰 love her little face hair whorl

justasking111 · 03/02/2024 21:02

Daughter took her ragdoll into the vets, aged 3 he said she was too heavy. Soaking wet she's a skeleton but so big. Checked with the association who said vets really don't know a lot about the breed who aren't fully grown until four.

I think it's the same with working labs who are muscle machines. They're confusing them with show breeds.

Our lab is also a very picky eater.
