The quest for replacement poo bags

Mydogsnotfat · 21/08/2023 13:34

Hi All,

Until now we have always used poo bags from Wilko's. Sturdy cheap and not see through or scented. Now they are going into liquidations I will have to find new ones that fit those criteria. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

The Wilko ones seem very popular as they are hardly ever in store and also out of stock on the website.

Thanks in advance.

I'm happy with Tesco's own brand poop bags, but my dog is small and so are his poos. I love that they're not coloured or see-through, no one needs to see poo, even if its in a cute transparent pink or yellow bag.

Escapingtherealityoflife · 21/08/2023 13:54

Aldi have biodegradable ones, they’re big too, so no risk of accidental poo hands.

kwetu · 21/08/2023 14:01

I have large dog, and find the ones available at home bargains are good & great value.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 21/08/2023 14:04

I'm a dog walker and use the green EarthRated ones from Amazon - you can get them in scented or unscented. They're amazing - I've never, ever had one split on me, they contain the smell and aren't see-through.

foolishone · 21/08/2023 14:05

I buy value nappy bags.

WithASpider · 21/08/2023 14:16

I get mine from Amazon and really rate them. Sturdy, black, 1 box lasts about a year and it comes with a holder for on the lead. £8.49 for 300.

HiHoHiHoltsOffToWorkWeGo · 21/08/2023 16:49

I use the Beco ones - I like having them on a roll, and they're thick enough to do the job.

saveforthat · 21/08/2023 16:54

Another vote for Tesco. I have a Golden Retriever and they are big and strong enough for the job.

adviceatthislatestage · 21/08/2023 19:36

We also use the Earth Rated ones from Amazon. DDog is a big boy who can poo for England- they never rip, are thick enough not to 'feel anything' and don't have the revolting scent that some bags do

Willmafrockfit · 21/08/2023 19:37

i use sainsbury's nappy sacks.

Spanielsarepainless · 21/08/2023 19:40

Tesco nappy sacks, 300 for 60p at last visit. Fine for my Labrador.

Whatever you pick - if biodegradable is important to you then be aware that most rated as biod. are not.

e.g the Earth Rated ones, which I always used to use - actually take something like 100 years to decompose and really only break down into microplastic Sad.

I've since switched to cornstarch ones as I think they are genuinely biodegradeable. I use Adios Plastic Biodegradable Dog Poop Bags which only take a few months to degrade down.

jazzandh · 21/08/2023 22:34

Amazon basics here. Dog poop incinerated in this area (along with household waste) so there doesn't seem to be a massive benefit in compostable bags.

Was coming to say the same thing. I also used to use ones that I thought were biodegradable. Have now discovered that you need to look for ones that state they are EN13432 certified. I’ve most recently got Benevo ones from Amazon. Have never had an issue with them splitting.

Mangofandangoo · 21/08/2023 22:46

Earth Rated are brilliant. I get them on Amazon

longtompot · 21/08/2023 23:39

Willmafrockfit · 21/08/2023 19:37

i use sainsbury's nappy sacks.

Same here. Never split and very cheap, when you can buy them that is

MuchTooTired · 21/08/2023 23:44

I’m another voting for Sainsburys nappy sacks, the purple pack. Cheap, lightly scented, huge and I’ve never had one split on me.

Clymene · 21/08/2023 23:56

My dog shit goes in the general waste so there's no point in compostable bags. Most things labelled biodegradable aren't really.

There was a programme on Radio 4 about this a few weeks ago. Possibly 'Sliced Bread'? The bottom line was the biodegradable ones all need aerobic composting, which you won't get in landfill, and that the aerobic composting is a specialist job and hard to do at home. They said there is no point paying out for the biodegradable ones if you are putting them in your general waste bin, just choose the cheap regular bags. The best thing would be a service that collects your bags and correctly composts them, but this doesn't currently exist. I only had half an ear on it as I am not a dog owner, so there was probably more info, but this bit stuck out for me.

H thank you! I heard the programme but couodnt remember what it was called.

LordSalem · 22/08/2023 01:28

Asda poo bags. Vanilla scented but I’m not impressed that they've gone from black to green. I use them for cat poo scoops out of recently changed litter and ferret poops (plus anti bac wipes) in the house.

Copperoliverbear · 22/08/2023 01:47

I use beco or earthrated both on Amazon.

TyrannosaurusSex · 22/08/2023 08:00

Thanks @SkankingWombat - but that makes me so grumpy! (not at you).

I got peeved at Earth Rated for claiming something that just wasn't true and now I find they are all pretty much doing it. Grrrr!!
