Do you sing to your dog?

And if you do, do you make up loving nonsense or choose a real song?

I spent some time living in fairly tribal communities in South America many years ago, and learned some prayers in the form of songs that they sang to their animals.

When DDog arrived with me after a pretty tough year, I sang one to him every time we were in a calm or relaxed situation.

He's come to associate the song with relaxing and things being 'OK', so now that he's elderly and living with some pain, I sing the same song to him to calm him when he's having a tough day.

It's a lovely thing to watch him 'release' a little to the sound, and I know it'll be the last thing I do for him when the time comes.

Yes and we substitute words for his name at every opportunity!
My husband's favourites:
"Me and Megan Dog...Nightclubbing,
Me and Megan Dog.... putting it about". (Oldie David Essex)
Also at every single meal time:
( to the tune of Do they know it's Christmas Band Aid)
"It's tea-e-time, there's no need to be afraid... " followed by : "Feed the d-og, let her know it's tea-e-time.."
Before a walk : Pet Shop Boys. - "Go West! With your Megan Dog"
He's completely mad. 🥰

I used to sing in the car and I think she hated it. I'm not a great singer.

That’s beautiful.

I do a lot of "You are the cutest" to the tune of "we are the champions" 😊

Maggie doesn’t run when I start singing. She does however run when Corrie comes on. My husband’s been training her.

First time ever I saw your face. Only I can only remember a couple of lines. She thinks I'm bonkers. It came on the radio in the car. Her face was a picture.

And plenty of made up songs too. I've got an awful voice, but she doesn't mind
