How the hell do I get this down my dog??

Latest flea treatment the vet has given us for our very fussy dog is a big round thing which is meant to be chewed. Instruction leaflet says not to crumble or break out up. It's massive, too big to be hidden in other food. Twat dog has just sniffed it and gone fuck that, it's a trick. Have put it in the treat drawer in the hope that he forgets and I can get it out again and pretend it's a reward.

Any other ideas? Honestly, giving my dog medication is the bane of my life.

My dog actually sneezed and shuddered when he smelled the Drontal 'tasty bone'.

Yeah it is Brave to. Why do the people who make these things make our lives so bloody difficult!

He loves mashed potato. May crumble it into that. Little fucker just managed to remove all pate from it without eating actual medication 😡

Yep. The most insulting thing is that it's supposed to be irresistable to dogs. I have yet to meet one that couldn't resist it. I suspect they tested it in humans.

I lead mine up the garden path.

We do some tricks in return for treats - usually cheese as you can squish that around the pill.

Sit - cheese - lie down - cheese - paw - cheese - sit - pill hidden in cheese

He's bright, and fussy, but I've already lulled him into a false sense of security with it so it goes down.

We've moulded bread or warm toast and butter/plain Philadelphia round tablets in the past and our lab has wolfed it down. Or peanut butter.

(Now we barely have to anything more than say loudly and enthusiastically "MMMMMMM this looks nice!" and pretend we are about to eat it and the greedy little sod comes investigating and wants whatever we are having.)

I used to play ‘tablet or cheese?’ For my very fussy dog. Chuck a chunk of cheese. Yum. Another. Yum. Tablet in cheese. Oh ok. Another chunk of cheese. Yum.

you get the idea. Worth a try.

I mould cheese around his nexgard pill/chew which sounds similar to the bravecto one. It ends up being a big cheesy parcel but he accepts it like that rather than spitting it out.

Floofydawg · 05/02/2023 08:08

Update - he randomly decided to eat half of it. Other half was mixed into his favourite dinner of chicken & mashed potato. We had to crumble it but it went down!

I melt cheese, stick the tablet in and let the cheese harden around it
