Suggestions to keep the old hag warm overnight in the car

DH and I have a holiday planned in May, hoping to head to Scotland with DDogs.

DDogs will be sleeping in the car overnight. DDog1 (WCS) will be fine but DDog2 (StaffieXwhippet) is very thin skinned and feels the cold. She will be utterly miserable if she's not warm enough, but we are loathe to leave her at home as it's a perfect dog friendly holiday.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to the best way to keep her warm? Within reason cost isn't an issue, but her rather odd body shape means that "off the peg" jackets etc don't fit terribly well.

What about a Ruff & Tumble drying coat? They’ve got a huge Velcro band which goes around the dogs belly so it’s really adjustable. They are towelling so it’d be like going to bed in a dressing gown.

Aw
She's gorgeous

TheSpottedZebra · 26/01/2023 21:02

Have you tried her with a self-heating mat?

wishuponastar1988 · 26/01/2023 21:18

Equafleece are great.

KangarooKenny · 26/01/2023 21:20

I love equafleece too

Wolfiefan · 26/01/2023 21:22

Fold DH up and stuff him in the crate. Bring that gorgeous doggy into bed with you!! 🤣

Floralnomad · 26/01/2023 21:24

If you ring the equafleece people they will sort you out with the right size .

RandomMess · 26/01/2023 21:34

Yes equafleece site you plug in their measurements and they tell you what to buy.

RandomMess · 26/01/2023 21:35

You can get those self warming mats that would help as would covering the crate with a thick blanket.

tangerinenightmare · 26/01/2023 21:37

Get another tent and I'll come along and be her tent buddy to keep her warm. She's a little beauty!

That "gorgeous doggy" is like sleeping with a sack of eels - it's yet another of her endearing qualities 😆

Careful with a hot water bottle in case one of them pierces it and get scolded.
I think you can get self heating mats suitable for doggies or like others have said lots of blankets for burrowing.
Not sure how the crate is set up but maybe a thick blanket over it and round the sides for extra warmth?

RandomMess · 26/01/2023 21:40

Sack of eels 🤣

We have a wee 6kg skinny JRT type thing, she has to snuggle up and you end up pushed out the bed (well according to 18 stone DH I won't bed share with her) 😂

Wolfiefan · 26/01/2023 21:40

🤣🤣
equafleece is also good.

SoNoWrecksToday · 26/01/2023 21:44

A thick, real wool blanket or feather duvet on a real sheepskin would be best. Look on eBay. Will they be sleeping together? I would choose any of these over synthetic fleece or pajamas as synthetic is more likely to smell and won’t regulate their temperature as well as a natural material. Also if they’re not used to wearing clothes they won’t settle and could chew them in the night.

xprincessxjanetx · 26/01/2023 21:50

So glad this isn't another MIL thread

DragonsFurry · 26/01/2023 21:52

No advice here. My dog sleeps on the blow up bed with us. That way everyone stays warm 😆

Zwicky · 26/01/2023 22:02

Spuds dog coats are made to order so she should be able to make one to fit reasonably well but it’s not going to be snug around the waist as it has to pull over the chest

RandomMess · 26/01/2023 22:12

@xprincessxjanetx 🤣

The crate is solid sided with a mesh door, I think it should retain the heat reasonably well.

The Hag has a variety of outdoor coats and ridiculous knitted jumpers so I imagine will cheerfully accept PJ's. DH thinks we should go for a pair with the dinosaur spines down the back 😆

Fragrantandfoolish · 26/01/2023 22:37

Op you get self heating pet beds. A crate won’t retain the heat and needs to be heated in the first place.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 26/01/2023 22:41

Oh I love her. She can stay with me instead ❤️ I'll even put the electric blanket on for her

Champagneforeveryone · 26/01/2023 22:51

I imagine she could get wholly on board with a self heating blanket. Currently she has to stare balefully at DH when her heated throw goes off until he switches it back on 😉
