What do you do with dog poo??

Hi all, we have a beautiful 12 week old Cockapoo. She's doing her poos in the garden, no problem. But what should we do with them? We've tried bagging them and putting them in a bin, but the smell still lingers. Just wondering what everyone else does?

Bag and bin. Is her poo very soft? If so is her food maybe not agreeing with her tummy?

We have a paved garden so we just chuck soapy water down after wee/picking up poo and jetwash when it really needs it.

Could you get her a toilet box? A sandpit just for her maybe?

Mine only poos on his walks so they are bagged and go in bins at the park/beach. On the odd occasion he goes in the garden it's bagged and put outside in the wheelie bin so no smell. Do you mean youre putting it in a bin inside the house? The wheelie bin just stinks full stop until its emptied and cleaned every 2 weeks so not worried about that

I do the same as pp . I double bag and put in the wheelie bin . After each poo I wash the area with hot water and washing up liquid . Every few days I rinse with a pet safe disinfectant from Pets at Home or Home Bargains.

Also I use recyclable poo bags that are quite strongly fragranced so that also helps

My old neighbour used to chuck it in the manhole, seems betterbut thinking about it I've no idea if that's actually allowed. Might be worth looking up.

As above, ours doesn’t do it in the garden - only very rarely, sometimes he’s so busy sniffing around he seems to forget to do it while on a walk. But it should be a temporary issue while she’s little.

Bins smell at this time of year, no matter what you put in there.

Sounds gross - but because it’s rare and I don’t really expect it, I don’t always find our dogs poo in the garden for a while.
When he poos on a walk it stinks to high heaven (he’s a gorgeous dog, but his farts are hellish too 😂) but when it’s been lying around a day or two in the garden, and dried out a bit, I don’t smell it. Apparently fresh poo smells worse than old poo is what I’m saying - TMI sorry!
So maybe don’t bag it up immediately. Leave it for a while, then bin?
You can also get scented poo bags, they might help.

Actually, I guess if you’re desperate you could put it in the toilet?? Never thought about it, but why not?

Our sewerage system is not designed for animal waste, so no, it shouldn't go down a manhole inspection chamber nor flushed down the toilet.

You can check your water company's website for confirmation. You can also check your council website, as ours recommends bagging and binning in general waste. This is what we do and the smell goes when emptied. I don't put in our bin when it is empty though, as I worry a big bag thrown on top might split the poo bag.

You're not supposed to put animal poo down the toilet due to the risk of parasites getting into the sewage systems.

I just double bag and put in the black bin, but his poos aren't too smelly. Really smelly poo can be a sign of poor diet or intolerances, so it might be worth thinking about changing her diet if they're really bad.

Poo smells, bins smell. You're just going to have to face it! Can you bag all the poo bags in one bag, and take it to the dog poo bin in the park? You can leave it in the shade/at the end of the drive, in the meantime, p'raps?

Thanks everyone. We had put a small pedal bin outside and were dropping the poo bags in there, but after a few bags it was stinking!

They say not to flush dog poos down the toilet, or put them down drains as the way our water is cleaned it doesn't get rid of certain germs apparently.

I'd seen online a bin you sink into the ground and it helps the poos decompose....seemed very extreme to me so I wanted to check that everyone else was just bagging and binning and not doing it this way.

She has just had her injections and wormer so I'm guessing her poo is a bit smellier due to this. I think we will double bag then either put it in our general waste bin or in the dog bins on our walks (she can't go out yet though). Thanks everyone.

Around my way the done thing is to bag it up and hang it up on some shrub or small tree and let the turd fairies deal with it.

My friend got one of the bins you sink into the ground. It didnt do anything to the poop, it filled with rain water and then froze solid like the world's worst ice cube 🤢 the smell when it thawed 🤮 Don't put yourself through it

I bag any poo and then hang it on a hook near my back gate so I remember to take it with me on my next dog walk and then I put it in one of the dog poo bins. I try not to use my general waste bin as it's in the sunshine all the time and is only emptied once every two weeks.

For garden, bag (fragranced poo bag), then in a small bin. The small big is placed so it is always inthe shade and also so rain can't get in, and has a larger bag (also a fragranced poo bag, just larger). When we empty our kitchen bin every few days this bag goes into the main bin bag, them out into the main outside bin. Outside poo bin then gets a spray of some disinfectant before a fresh bag goes in. I would say it generally smells fine, but it is a bit noticeable in this warm weather.

I echo the suggestion of not picking up immediately, they seem to smell less after an hour or so. That said I remember as a pup we had to pick up immediately as otherwise she'd run in it and then tread it through the house.

We keep a bin (it's a recycle bin with flap up lid) at the end of the garden with a biodegradable liner in it. We put poo in poo bag then in outside bin, we then empty into normal bin on bin day.

If you use the tie handle bags and just use the handles to tie the bags you're not actually fully sealing the bag and so the smell gets out, fully knot the bag (like you would a balloon) and you'll notice the difference :-)
