We've had our puppy nearly four weeks.

I've torn my tricep throwing her ball and now can't use my right arm!!

What injuries have you suffered in the name of being a dog-owner?

Recent pics just because ❤️

Not me but my friend was felled by our two Labradors, carrying a fencepost between them, charging into her knees from behind. No damage done but we had to sit down and laugh.

QueenOfToast · 29/07/2022 18:31

Achilles tendinitis from too much walking 🤣

To be fair to the dog, it was a niggling injury from pre-puppy times, but it was a lot worse for a few months at the start of the year.

My parent had the dog on a flexi lead he ran behind me and the string part of the lead burned two lovely lines on the back of my legs

Olddognewtrick · 29/07/2022 18:58

My dad recently tripped over a puppy’s extending lead - the owner thought it was clicked locked. Hit his head and his hand - had to go to A&E - he was fine, but had the most dramatically bruised hand I’ve ever seen.

Sunflowers765 · 29/07/2022 19:42

My DDog saw a cat. Whizzed off ripping her rope lead around the back of my leg leaving horrendous rope burn at the back of my knee. Took ages to heal because you have to bend it all the time.

Lastonetotango · 29/07/2022 19:44

I broke my arm when dog decided to veer across me, sending me straight over the top of her.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 29/07/2022 19:49

Three broken ribs.

All to do with him being delighted to see me, and nothing to do with the fact I was rolling back from the pub at 2am, tried climbing quietly over the stairgate and tripped over him as he got in front of my foot when my balance was less than perfect.

He did of course, kindly keep me company after I bounced off the corner of the kitchen wall and snuggled up happily to share his bed as I decided I was staying there until the morning.

Playing with DDog who is a senior gent and mostly 'plays' by flinging his head about joyfully and rubbing it on people's legs with a big open-mouthed smile.

Said open-mouthed smile made forceful contact with my chin as he threw his head up toward me, and I bit down on my bottom lip.

With bloody marks on the top of my lower lip and chin it looked like he'd bitten my lower jaw! But he was just happily headbanging....

My childhood friend broke her wrist when we were walking her dog as pre-teens.

A car drove past with a dog sticking it's head out of the window, which barked at him, and he chased it and pulled her over.

I had this but around my ankle, it whipped me off my feet.
I ended up with a horrible necrotic area that had to be dressed 3x week at the surgery for 10 weeks. Very painful and has left a nasty scar.
Beware!

KatnissNeverdone · 29/07/2022 20:18

Badly twisted my ankle standing on a knuckle bone that was left at the bottom of the stairs. Also rope burns on my fingers trying to pull back the extending lead by the cord when the reactive collie ran towards a dog I hadn't seen. That took an age to heal. It's a good job they're cute.

Marytherose · 29/07/2022 20:27

Dislocated my shoulder when DDog ran across in front of me, stopped abruptly and flipped over to scratch her back on the grass. I went straight over her and landed on my outstretched arm…….still not fully recovered (me!)

tabulahrasa · 29/07/2022 22:51

Last dog... I tore a ligament in my knee using a longline. He broke DP’s front tooth playing with a ball.

Current dog... I’ve a disc injury that’s ended up with me in hospital twice and on crutches and heavy duty painkillers for the last 4 months, only thing I did before it started was walk him, though we’re assuming there was something already there because he’s only 22kg.

Oh and on a walk with a friend and her dog they bowled into the back of her leg while playing and she fell and tore a ligament in her ankle.

StillMedusa · 29/07/2022 23:25

I currently have a rope burn from the other morning, when on an early walk we came across a family of squirrels having breakfast on the ground... (thank God she had just gone back on her lead or she'd have been gone!) She's generally a good walker but the lure of squirrels is too much!

(and I'd never use an extendable lead after seeing a friend have a degloving injury!)

Sunflowers765 · 29/07/2022 23:53

I know someone who had a dog run into her in the park ( not her dog) and broke her kneecap!

MaitlandGirl · 30/07/2022 00:30

Precious dog (big, dumb boy with a hard head) broke my nose and gave me concussion, broke my wife’s nose twice and broke the vets nurses nose.

It took much longer than it should to realise you couldn’t talk to him when he was having his claws clipped as he’d throw his head to give you kisses.

WhackingPhoenix · 30/07/2022 00:43

My dog accidentally headbutted me on the nose so hard that the inner post of my nose stud got embedded in my septum 😵 the blood!

RosalindsAFuckingNightmare · 30/07/2022 01:47

I stupidly hooked lateDdog's lead over my thumb so I could get my front door key out of my bag and open the door after a walk. A fox passed the end of the path and she went to go after it, bending my thumb back in the process. She died last year 😟 my thumb still bloody hurts.

Ladywiddio · 30/07/2022 02:01

Took my dog to beach on extended lead,he bolted until he came to an abrupt halt, lead had gone as far as it could.I fell and hit my head on a rock and had 2 black eyes.Another time he pulled me into a wall and I hit my mouth and knocked a crown out.

Sitdowncupoftea · 03/08/2022 17:08

Too many to mention. The worse a broken finger holding my dog back when a off leash dog ran up to have a go. It took months for the pain to go.

NotQuiteUsual · 03/08/2022 17:11

My Newfie nearly broke my knee and had me on crutches for weeks. She was playing with a lovely little Spaniel and forgot to look where she was running. Nurses thought it was hilarious. There were three of us with injured knees in a row in the waiting room and I had the daftest injury 🤣

Mrsjayy · 03/08/2022 17:13

Got stuck behind the shed trying to get him in the house scraped my arm I also fell in the "den" he had dug 🙄

Soubriquet · 03/08/2022 17:14

Dog leaped over my face whilst we were in bed. She managed to miss most of my face but her back legs caught my nose

Serious nose bleed after that.

GetOffTheRoof · 03/08/2022 17:19

Fell over pothole on the way back from a small detours to drop poo in a poo bin. Xrays the next day, not broken but v badly sprained. Crutches for a month. 2 days before DH deployed for six months!

Nothing to do with the umpteen pints of Rattler. Nope. No way. All the dogs fault.

cheeseislife8 · 03/08/2022 20:35

I broke my toe tripping over mine, she appeared at my feet when I'd gone for a pee in the night. She was fine!
