Budget Dog Food

Can anybody recommend a budget dog food? Our lab is currently on Wainwrights but with the cost of everything going up, I was wondering if there was anything cheaper. We've cut back on everything we possibly can - including our own food - so this is a very last resort.

We use Baxter's meaty meals. Much cheaper but soft enough for our old boy to chew. It's dry but not biscuity

Autarky is really good value for nice ingredients
About £20 for a 12 kg sack
Freely available on line or buy mine from the feed merchants

The best cheap dog food is Chappie.

I'd get yourself to an agricultural or farming store and buy food meant for working dogs. Huge bags of it are usually quite cheap. Supplement with the odd egg or tin of sardines for interest. Butchers food is very poor quality IMO

Sounds naff but Aldi do a grain free dry dog food, tried mine on it as I have one with very funny stomach and they've been fine on it. Their wet food that looks like Lily's in the patterned box is good too. Mine used to have Burns but they turn their noses up at that now

It's called Langhams

Csj. Online only unless you have a stockist nearby. No expensive advertising or posh packaging
My two labs do fantastically on ‘That’ll do’ or ‘Champ’. 2 firm poos a day. Have used more expensive stuff but find this suits much better
i do mix in some raw most days (😱)
it’s around £16 for 15kg

Heard good things about CSJ, loads of farmers I know use it for their working dogs. I'm tempted to try it, but loads are chicken based and my dog's tummy and chicken aren't best mates

CSJ will send you some free samples to try of different types, I know they do a tripe based kibble and a fish one. They are very helpful - I’d give them a call tomorrow - they are based in wales. Autarky is also good and cheap, agree also with the Lidl/ Aldi although more expensive unless it’s pet week when they sell larger sacks.

Thankyou everyone! :)

We've tried him on ASDA's 'Hero' food and he loves it! Smile So we will be sticking with that.

Autarky salmon is good ingredients on a budget and vat free which helps.

I always work out the cost per day to feed as can look cheaper per sack in comparison but may need to feed more of it and of course that results in greater poo output too.
