Hi

But what do I do? There is no one about, dog has followed me for about a mile?

What do I do?

Are there no houses nearby that you could knock at and see if you could leave it in a garden so it’s secured and then deal with finding someone to collect it . If not take it home .

AlwaysColdHands · 10/04/2022 17:22

Try your best to kept it safe
If it’s approachable and friendly you may be able to get hold of collar and use something for lead
Take a picture and upload to any local Facebook groups

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 10/04/2022 17:23

Give him food and water while you wait for the dog warden. We had a stray follow us home on a walk, he was starving and very thirsty! This was on a weekday so I drove him to the pound rather than wait for the dog warden, as we weren't entirely sure he didn't have mange and couldn't risk our dog catching it.

OldSpeclkledHen · 10/04/2022 17:24

Its friendly but I can't take it home, if it comes to it I'll
Take to a vet

Is there a local Facebook page you can check whether someone has reported lost dog?

Easterisoffeggstooexpensive · 10/04/2022 17:25

Police station may have a scanner for the chip..

QuebecBagnet · 10/04/2022 17:25

Have you got something you can tie to it’s collar and take it home/keep it safe in your garden for now. Put photos on fb but if someone claims it please ask to see photo evidence it’s their dog. Other option is there should be an emergency vet open, could you take it there?

tothemoonandbackbuses · 10/04/2022 17:27

Take it to a local vets as they will scan it. I expect it’s owner has already posted on Facebook that they’ve lost a dog.

OldSpeclkledHen · 10/04/2022 17:28

I'm not on fb

Either phone a local vets or contact a local animal ambulance if you have one, I hope he is reunited with his owners soon poor thing, if you can get him to a vets they will be able to scan his chip if he has one.

lljkk · 10/04/2022 17:32

First we need a pic of doggy...

I've had dogs follow me before, are you sure it doesn't have a tag on collar with number on it?

Do you know anyone who has facebook? This one would go out as lost pooch on our local facebook pages.

AmberLynn1536 · 10/04/2022 17:33

Agree with pp, knock on some doors they may know who he belongs to.

Fuckitydoodah · 10/04/2022 17:36

Do you think you could get him to your car?

I'd maybe Google local vets, but not sure any will be open on a Sunday. It's usually out of hours emergency vets only. Alternatively, look online and see if there are any local dog rehoming centres you could drop him off at.

countdowntonap · 10/04/2022 17:39

Ask someone you know to share it on Facebook. This is how most of the dogs I’ve ‘found’ have reunited with their owners. The pic needs to be shared on local pages not your profile.

I came across a dog wandering in the street a couple of years ago - there were actually two dogs and another passerby was trying to keep hold of them. It was round the corner from my house so I popped back - got a couple of leads but also brought my car round. We got the dogs in the car and drove them round to the vets as we knew they have secure cages there (not sure if they can check for chips as well?). The vets said they would contact the authorities. I remember the other passerby had put it on a local FB page. I never heard the outcome but at least the dogs were safe from being run over .

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 10/04/2022 17:44

Was there meant to be a photo? I can't see it.

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 10/04/2022 17:46

Are you near any farms? Lots of dogs on the farms near us wander. We’ve even had a collie climb into our car without us noticing Grin!

SpookyMargot · 10/04/2022 17:52

What area are you in?

SirVixofVixHall · 10/04/2022 17:55

You can post on the DogsLost website, get dog scanned for a chip, and ask a friend to put the info on the local facebook page (most villages have their own page). And on Twitter .

Easterisoffeggstooexpensive · 10/04/2022 17:55

No pic showing op..

SpookyMargot · 10/04/2022 17:57

For those who can't see the pic it looks like a pale yellow Labrador.
